The Just 103 Solo, an ultralight produced by Just Aircraft, was designed to fit the Part 103 requirements (Federal Aviation Regulation Part 103 for Ultralight Vehicles). The requirements for the Part 103 classification are:
must be used/operated by no more than one occupant
must weigh less than 254 lb.
must have a level flight top speed no greater than 63mph
must have a power-off stall speed no greater than 28mph
By complying with these restrictions, you are able to fly without any sort of pilot's license or medical certification, which makes it a great buy for the casual recreational flyer (you should definitely still take flying lessons first though).
The Just 103 Solo is a fantastic Part 103 plane; quick, sporty, light controls, extremely well balanced. It's more of a plane than you might expect to get from an ultralight aircraft. Perhaps one of the best ways of getting into affordable recreational aviation.
Well, the Just 103 Solo is back, as the 103 Solo-X, with new features, extras, and awesomeness!
The Just 103 Solo-X (experimental) is a prototype intended to be the second gen 103 Solo. Although the Solo-X uses the same Polini Thor 250 2-stroke engine, this 36 horsepower motor now produces greater thrust; through careful tuning and the addition of a 96” prop. This has improved the Solo-X's level-flight top speed from 63 mph to 79mph. This is a 25% increase over the original 103 Solo (this new top speed is also 16 mph faster than the Part 103 top speed restriction... but we won't tell if you won't).
The Solo-X has also been equipped with flaps and flaperons, further decreasing its stall speed and improving low speed handling. The Solo-X flies just as comfortably at 29 mph as it does 100 mph. The larger winglets decrease drag, increase lift, and lower fuel consumption, increasing the range. Another improvement is the plane's flight instrumentation; adding compass, altimeter, ADI, and airspeed indicator. The safety of this plane has been greatly increased by the installation of a four-point harness and a ballistic parachute. And just for fun, we added a smoke trail system!
The 103 Solo-X is scheduled to be available for purchase early next year. So if you're interested in affordable, simple, and seriously fun recreational flying, then contact us and pre-order your own Solo-X today!

Using the prop wash simulator, you can lift the tail section into the air before you've even started rolling!

The ballistic parachute will do an excellent job at preventing you from ending up in a terrible deadly fireball crash!
I recommend deactivating the prop wash simulator (Ag2) after take off, as it reduces realism of flight characteristics during normal flight
-And thanks to @tylerdeveneuxmusic for final testing. If you haven't seen his work, you might want to visit his profile page here and check out his awesome car builds.
Okay that's all, thanks to anyone who actually read this whole description lol. This build is technically an update of an old build, but I put more effort in than a regular update. I'm happy with how it turned out, I hope you like it too!
I'm starting to get good at STOL in this thing lol, I wanna do an STOL competition
@Hyattorama I’m wondering if you can make the 1903 Wright Flyer.
The question remains, is he still alive!?
Great to see you’re still posting planes at least somewhat recently! How are you doing? Also I think this is now my favourite plane to fly on SP. it’s truly a work of art and is just a delight to fly.
Thanks man!!! Yeah it required a good bit of patience. I always used to focus on builds that I could complete in 1 or 2 days. But if you really wanna do it right, you gotta take your time, and not be rushed to post. I modified the smoke machine slightly, but the original creator is @MrSilverWolf . Building it requires that you use Overload to edit the values for the gun; size of projectile, color, velocity, and a bunch of other stuff. Yes, I agree with you that the Lotus 49 is a fantastic and sexxxy machine. Really I love all the F1 cars from that era. Unfortunately I really only build planes, I’m not sure I have the skills to do such an intricate ground vehicle build... although I suppose there’s a first time for everything, and the best way to learn is to practice. But I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you, in terms of me taking this on. Actually I’ve really been struggling to set aside time for SP lately. But I will say, one of the greatest car builders in SP imo is @tylerdeveneuxmusic . I can’t volunteer to you his services on his behalf, but if you want someone to build a great replica of the Lotus, he’s the builder I recommend you ask. Thanks again though man, that made me feel really good :)
I don’t know how you have patience to put together all these little fuselages into an amazing plane but however that is keep doing it because this is great. Also how did you do the smoke with machine guns? Also the lotus 49 race car is a really cool old race car and it have not yet been built so it is worth getting, so i suggest you make it because I can envision it now and you would do a great job as always @hyattorama
Cool! I’ll tag you on an unlisted. @Hyattorama
@Hyattorama would you like to check out what I’ve been working on lately? I haven’t built much in a while, and i’m kind of getting back into it.
I was patient and took my time, instead of rushing to get it posted in 48 hours like I always do... so I am pretty proud of myself and proud of the outcome, yes, thank you :) also a personal best upvote-wise, which I know is just a number, and my vanity shouldn’t be important. But also it hopefully means that some people enjoyed playing with it, which I think is important, and does make me feel good. So short answer is yes, I feel plenty rewarded. Probably more than is warranted but I’ll take it! Lol
@ACEPILOT109
That’s cool! This must be a very rewarding build with that detail! @Hyattorama
Thank you so much. I can’t tell you what that means to me, coming from you. I’m honored :)
@SpiritusRaptor
This is so good, I can't stop messing around with it!
There’s tiny jets attached to the elevators and rudder and then one jet engine turned backwards to counteract their net forward thrust. So then when stopped or at low speeds it acts like there’s prop wash. I couldn’t get it calibrated just right, so it causes the plane to be too maneuverable during normal flight, so I had to give it an on/off switch. @ACEPILOT109
Prop wash? How did you do that? @Hyattorama
Haha yeah that is a bit of a problem with high part counts... it flies pretty similar to the first one apart from the prop wash and flaps.
@ACEPILOT109
Lol my phone can’t handle this but it sure looks cool! @Hyattorama
extremely well balanced, as all things should be
Yeah I changed the descriptions on the other builds. So I guess it’s okay..
@BaconAircraft
@Hyattorama Idk up to u. I guess the rule of thumb is just give him credit for something that he built.

Greetings,

Has anyone heard or seen any recent news for the Just Aircraft Ultralight? https://justaircraft.com/just103/ They announced it a couple years ago, and the last real press I saw was from around May 2018. There was talk of some kits being shipped to select people for evaluation, to be followed by normal sales. Was it even at SNF or Oshkosh this year?

The boom tube was supposed to be replaced by a more conventional 4130 structure, but I haven't found any pictures of that change. I could get really interested in this if the wings fold like their other aircraft.

Thanks,
Rusty

Believe it or not, I just spoke to Troy about ten minutes ago, and he said he had been out flying it this weekend

We were speaking about a totally different airplane, so I don't have any other informaiton about the ultralight.

Well that's encouraging. They're just on the other side of the mountains from me, so I'll eventually get over there to bug them. It would be great if they'd offer it as a scratch build option as well, but it didn't sound like that was likely. I need the TIG practice

Thanks,
Rusty
Anyone heard anything more about the 103solo?

This looks an awful lot like an Airbike with tundra tires. Get plans and components here: Jordan Lake Aero
The plans are really nice. Most of the parts and even the fuselage is drawn full size. They sell the fiberglass components at a very reasonable price as well.

Thanks, but since I posted that, I've purchased an Airbike

Looks like the webpage has been updated and says they will be contracting with Top Rudder Aircraft LLC. Looks like that company now has a Facebook page with some pics. Potential progress.

It would be great if they could find a way to make the wings fold back. I don't see that mentioned anywhere for either model. It would be more of a challenge for the narrow fuselage, and the part 103 version likely can't afford the weight, but it would be a real added bonus for the EAB version.

When I first reported about — and did videos about — Just Aircraft’s Part 103 entry back in 2017 and 2018, lots of readers got excited. Here was the company that astounded everyone with their thrilling SuperSTOL that can take and land on what seems little more than a postage stamp. With a...

BUT, that said, for some the lack of FAA oversight for Part 103 is worth the money. I hope the Just 103 sells like hotcakes

I did not see any comments on wing fold but it looks to be standard Kit Fox geometry. Any comments?

Does not seem to be part of their main page line up yet - you have to do a search of them saying part 103 to find it "just aircraft part 103" to get to that page!
