For these reasons, many women undergo breast reduction surgery, which, in most cases, is seen as a life-changing procedure.
Breast reduction , medically known as reduction mammoplasty, is designed for women with large breasts. This surgical procedure removes fat, glandular tissue, and skin from the breasts, making them smaller, lighter, and firmer. During the surgery, the size of the areola can also be reduced. The goal of breast reduction surgery is to give the woman smaller, better-shaped breasts in proportion with the rest of her body.
Celebrities & Breast Reduction Surgery
When you think about celebrities undergoing plastic surgery, you think about them tightening, lifting, or plumping things. However, there are also procedures available — like breast reduction surgery — that reduce the size of the breasts to bring forth a better quality of life.
These five celebrities are a perfect example of how breast reduction surgery can give women a more comfortable, and less painful way to live their lives:
Finding it hard to dress up for red carpet events, the 17-year old Modern Family star underwent breast reduction surgery to reduce the size of her breasts from a 32F to a 34D. “I had a lot of back problems. I really couldn’t stand up straight for a long period of time. It started to hurt so bad that I couldn’t take the pain,” said Winter, who, like most larger chested women, underwent breast reduction surgery to relieve unnecessary back pain.
Drew Barrymore, known for her rebellious personality in her younger years, underwent breast reduction surgery in 1992. After her procedure, Barrymore said, “I really love my body and the way it is right now. There’s something very awkward about women and their breasts because men look at them so much. When they’re huge, you become very self-conscious. Your back hurts. You find that whatever you wear, you look heavy in. It’s uncomfortable.”
After a 25-pound weight loss, which had no effect on the size of her breasts, Queen Latifah made the decision to undergo breast reduction surgery to proportion the size of her breasts with the rest of her body. “I had lost 25 pounds and my breasts didn’t go anywhere! I was still carrying that load,” said the star in 2003.
The “Punky Brewster” star underwent breast reduction surgery in 1992, when she was just 16 years old. At only 5’1, Soleil had been the victim of taunting and teasing due to her gigantomastia, in other words, excessive breast tissue. The surgery took her 38DD bust down to 36C, which made going about her daily life more manageable.
Comedian Janeane Garofalo underwent breast reduction surgery because she was uncomfortable with a large chest on her small frame. “I was a 36C or D, and at 5’1, I knew that being a small person with big boobs standing in front of an audience was not going to be easy. I went down to a B cup, and it was the best thing in the whole world.”

PUNKY Brewster star Soleil Moon Frye said she got a breast reduction as a teen.
The 44-year-old explained her decision by sharing that bullies called her "Punky Boobster."
Soleil opened up about her breast reduction in her new documentary Kid 90, which features the actress sharing her memories, intimate home videos and personal diaries.
She further elaborated about the procedure while speaking to PEOPLE , sharing that she received the wrong kind of attention from fans when the show ended in 1988.
The actress told the outlet: "I was in this position where I was going through puberty, and I developed very quickly.
"Everywhere I went I was called Punky Boobster, and people would stare directly at my boobs."
She recalled being offered "tits and ass roles," adding that the attention made her uncomfortable in her own skin.
Soleil said: "No one is in charge of how their body develops.
"But there was so much shame about it."
She decided to get a breast reduction when she was 16, sharing: "My shoulders had indentations, I had back problems, there were so many different issues."
Soleil added that she now loves and accepts her body, stating: "My experiences made me who I am today.
"And as much of a roller coaster as it was, I wouldn't change one thing."
She starred as the titular character on Punky Brewster from 1984-1988, which she recently reprised the role in the show's revival.
She had just turned 18 at the time, while the Two And A Half Men star was 29.
Despite their age gap, the Saved By The Bell alum said Charlie, 55, was “so kind and loving."
She added the two have maintained a friendship in the years since.
Soleil also addressed claims made by child star Corey Feldman in his 2020 documentary that alleged Charlie “raped” his best friend , the late Corey Haim , when he was 19.
She said: “I can only speak to my experience and what the diaries say. I don’t know about anyone else’s experiences.
“I don’t think people are devils or angels."
Charlie denied that he raped Corey, whom Soleil knew growing up.
The actress split from her husband Jason Goldberg, 48, in December 2020 after 22 years of marriage.
The couple, who share four children together – Poet Sienna Rose, 15, Jagger Joseph Blue, 12, Lyric Sonny Roads, 6, and Story, 4 – wed in 1998.
They were believed to have one the strongest marriages in the entertainment business.
