Socks And Orgasm
Joe Cocker says it's okay to leave your hat on. And other items of clothing are deemed okay during sex too.
But no one said ever, 'you can leave your socks on', and with the research we've just learned about we're wondering why not.
It was Love Island 's Curtis wearing socks during "adult scenes" with fellow island resident Maura last week that prompted this story.
Understandably, the internet collectively gasped when everyone saw he never got round to taking his off.
But we've just found out that leaving your socks on during sex can actually increase your chances of having an orgasm .
Yes, that's right; you read that correct. A study conducted at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands in 2016 used brain scans to find out what effect, if any, wearing socks has on your sexual experience.
They found that 50 per cent of participants (male and female) reached orgasm while not wearing socks, however 80 per cent climaxed when they were wearing a pair.
If you're wondering how this could possibly be the researchers explained that wearing socks keeps your feet warm, which helps to dilate the blood vessels; in turn your overall blood flow improves.
Having warm feet will also improve the quality of sleep you have afterward. It's a win-win.
Turns out Curtis was onto something after all.

During sexual activity couples typically strip down to their birthday suits, but there is one article of clothing you may want to rethink removing if experiencing an orgasm is on the agenda.
According to a BBC News report , a study conducted in the Netherlands to measure the differences in brain function between men and women during orgasm revealed cold feet as an inhibitor to orgasm.
When provided with socks to wear, brain scans showed 80 percent of the couples in the University of Groningen study were able to reach an orgasm in comparison to only 50 percent that were able to reach a climax without wearing socks.
Researchers found there’s a significant difference in how women and men experience sexual pleasure. While men focus on physical stimulation, the women’s ability to orgasm was linked with her comfort level internally and externally.
According to the study, women need an environment that feels safe and secure in order for her mind to be completely focused on sexual arousal.
“If you are fearful, it is very hard to have sex. It’s very hard to let go,” said Professor Gert Holstege, a member of the research team.

A study cited as early as 2005 found that people were more likely to achieve orgasm during sex while wearing a pair of socks.
The amusing item has been doing the rounds in the last eleven years, reappearing most recently in November on the Metro website.
Elite Daily , Maxim, Brobible and other online publications featured the finding. In 2011 as well as Women's Health included the 'sock factor' on a list of the '5 weirdest' pieces of sex advice out there.
The study in question was conducted by Gert Holstege, and it sought to better understand male and female orgasms.
An unintended finding was that 50 per cent of participants orgasmed without wearing socks.
When they were given a pair, 80 per cent experienced an orgasm.
Here's a super scientific chart to better illustrate these findings.
Socks aside, the main focus of the Holstege study was into what's going on in the human brain as they orgasm.
The main finding was that women register lower levels of anxiety and fear as they approach orgasm.
It was more difficult to register similar changes in men due the fact that male orgasms don't last as long as they do for women, making it harder for scientists to collect data.
What the study did conclude was that physical stimuli are more important to male orgasms than female ones.
According to Elite Daily the finding about socks and orgasms came about because participants complained the laboratory was a bit draughty.
It's not known if the study took into account of sweaty feet, or looking weird being naked in just socks.
The possibility that the second time having sex was better because it usually is may also have played a part in the 'sock factor' test.
