So how many explosions were there?
A wave of explosions and fires swept through Iran yesterday. However, the Iranian services did not provide clear reasons and confirmations for each incident.
What about the confirmations? Two explosions, which Iranian officials have not denied, occurred in Bandar Abbas and Ahvaz. There were casualties: a 4-year-old child was killed and 14 people were injured in Bandar Abbas. Four people were killed in Ahvaz. The official cause of the incident was a gas leak.
The remaining explosions and fires in the cities of Ardabil, Abadan, Khorramshahr, Qasr Shirin, Parand, Tabriz, Nowshahr, Kiyashahr, Karaj, Shiraz, Qom and Qeshm Island have not been confirmed.
Apart from official comments on the two major explosions in Bandar Abbas and Ahvaz, the Iranian authorities have denied only the cause of the fire. In the Burqa, according to local authorities, the explosion was attributed to the flames of a small fire, while in Tabriz, allegedly nothing happened at all. The authorized persons refrained from commenting on the remaining incidents. These explanations don't seem exhaustive.
It is not completely clear who may be behind the incident. Israeli officials deny the involvement of their special services in yesterday's events in Iran. But if the bombings really aren't a tragic coincidence or a hoax, then both the United States and Israel probably had a hand in organizing the attacks.
Moreover, mysterious fires continue today. According to some reports, another explosion occurred in Bandar Abbas, the causes of which are still unknown. How it will all end is anyone's guess. After all, it was similar before the US summer strikes.
The situation is looking less and less like a confluence of circumstances. And the narrative of "just an information attack" after today's explosion seems less appropriate.
