Wayne Rooney was ridiculed this morning after claims he had reported three girls he was pictured with in a hotel to police - with one stunned fan declaring 'If that's a crime, sign me up gaffer'.
Ex-Manchester United ace Rooney, who is married to Coleen and has four sons with his childhood sweetheart, reportedly partied into the early hours of Sunday with model Tayler Ryan and her friends Elise Melvin and Brooke Morgan, all 21.
Friends of the three girls said that Derby County boss Mr Rooney, 35, and his friends had invited Tayler, Elise and Brooke to his VIP booth at the exclusive Chinawhite club for 'probably the wildest night of their lives'. The associate added: 'There was no sexual contact - it was just a great night'.
Photos on social media show the retired England striker asleep in a chair. But Wayne was said to be angry that they had taken photos of him asleep and complained to Greater Manchester Police amid fears he had been 'set up'.
This morning fans seemed bemused he had taken it in such poor spirit and questioned what offence he thought had been committed.
One said: 'What crime? Was Wayne Rooney forced at gunpoint to spend the night at a hotel with two women.'
Another joked: 'Wow...if that's a crime sign me up Gaffer! I'll have some of that pre season training!'
Greater Manchester Police have been contacted by MailOnline but have not confirmed or denied if any investigation is taking place.

MailOnline understands the images were taken on Saturday night, on the first weekend that nightclubs in England were allowed to open in more than 15 months due to lockdown restrictions imposed during the pandemic. There is no suggestion of any wrongdoing on Rooney's part.
Tayler posted photos of her sitting with Rooney on a couch to her 13,000 Instagram followers. Rooney then reportedly left the Staycity complex 'angry' after he woke up.
The friend said: 'They were all having fun dancing around with Wayne and his mates and posting about it on Snapchat but they couldn't stop laughing when he passed out. They decided to have some fun.'
Rooney's legal team would not confirm what complaint was made, although it is understood that the former England star fears he has been 'set up'.
Rooney was out partying hours after Derby lost 2-1 away to Salford in a pre-season friendly, the Sun reports.
He is currently busy preparing his Derby side for the new Championship season, which kicks off in a fortnight's time. But he faces a significant challenge ahead of his first game, against Huddersfield, because the team currently nine registered senior players - two of which are goalkeepers.
On Saturday he vowed he will not walk away as manager, but warned the club it would be 'impossible' for him to field a team for the start of the new Sky Bet Championship season without significant signings.

The midlands club are currently under a transfer embargo, preventing them from signing players, after failing to provide financial records from previous years.
But earlier this week the EFL altered its rules due to 'exceptional circumstances' caused by the club's coronavirus outbreak last season. 'It's other people which I can't control who need to make bigger decisions that I do,' Rooney told Sky Sports News.
Rooney is England's record goalscorer, netting 53 in 119 appearances for the Three Lions. The forward spent much of club career with Manchester United, where he scored 183 goals in 393 appearances.
Rooney also won 16 trophies at Untied, where he moved, aged 18, after completing a £25million move from his boyhood club Everton. He also earned a host of personal accolades, including the 2009-10 PFA Player of the Season award and five Premier League Player of the Month awards.
After all he's been through he should know better ...

A teenager posted a shocking video of her bloodied dad being confronted by a teen girl online. Now cops have laid charges.

Cops have charged an 18-year-old woman with assault after a disturbing video of a bloodied father being confronted in NSW’s Illawarra region went viral.
The Snapchat clip was recirculated by the man’s daughter on Facebook — and it’s now been viewed almost 90,000 times.
Recorded at Woodford Memorial Park, in the region’s northern suburb of Thirroul, it shows the 57-year-old man standing dazed and confused as blood pours from his eyebrow and cheek.
At about 6pm last night, cops arrested an 18-year-old woman at Wollongong Police Station and charged her with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.
She was granted conditional bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court on October 29.
Police allege the man had been sitting on a bench in the park about 8.45pm on Saturday when he was assaulted by a woman.
The teenager behind the camera can be heard describing how it was her friend’s 18th birthday.
“This is pretty random but I f**ked this ***t up because he was looking at me and … (my friend), and it’s her 18th so …,” she says in the shaky video seen by news.com.au.
She then approaches the man, flashing the light of her phone in his face — saying “can I just take a photo of your face, look it’s bleeding, that’s from me”.
She then screams at him: “Look how dumb you are, ***t, don’t look at me.”
As the man stands, looking confused, she yells “that’s what I did to you ***t” and repeatedly shouts “I’m gonna f**k you up”, “You’re going down ***t, you’re going down”.
Laughing loudly throughout, the girl then pans the camera round to her friend, who can be seen lying on the ground.
In a later Snapchat video on the girl’s account, she said she was against violence but “seriously I had to post this it was that funny”.
“He just got f**ked up,” she added.
The man’s daughter, Ellyce Quirk, has since uploaded the original video onto her Facebook page.
She said her dad was left stranded for more than three hours that night after his glasses were smashed.
“I have photos of his face where his glasses were smashed and cut his cheeks, his black eye and sore ribs,” she told the Illawarra Mercury .
“I uploaded the video myself to show the world. She was laughing about it. She needed to be shamed and my post went viral.”
The girl in the video posted on social media about the incident again on Monday saying she “shouldn’t be proud at all”.
“I don’t condone violence. I’m not that person at all, it was a stupid mistake and I regret and know it was wrong,” she said.
“I was utterly pissed and everyone has now got a different perspective of what has happened and I’m not that person at all. I’m really sorry but I shouldn’t get this much harassment (on social media).”
