I began roughly when COVID started last year, and most of these scammers are found advertising on dating apps to add them to snapchat in their profiles. Think I've baited at least over 80+ distinct scammers. Here are some random things I've figured out:
They're all from Africa, most likely Nigeria or Ghana.
I'll say about 75-85% of them will use pics of Sabrina Nichole
Usually have two standard American names combined together, sometimes misspelled, i.e Bella James, Michele Alison, etc
They all follow an extremely formulaic script:
Initial intro, ask where you're located, they say they're close by
Use the term hon/babe a lot, but you notice a lot of weirdness in their grammar
Offer hookup or premium nude pics/vids
Some have some copy/pasta terms of agreement where you agree not to be a cop to look legit (lol)
Pay via cashapp/zelle/paypal/apple pay/btc (lol)/giftcards
Get real defensive when you question if they're a scam
Send "live snaps" using an in app lens where they choose a pic (it tells you they use a lens), but I can see dumb people overlooking it, to prove that they're "real".
Snapchat call you and then hang up to get you to respond faster
Potentially use a voice changer if you do want to talk to them, (sounds like a distorted woman's voice w/ a nigerian accent lol)
So here are some fun things I've done to mess with them:
Disrupt their script by asking for their location first
Be super convincing all the way til the payment part and then take a very long time (lots of hilarious dif ways at this stage to give them blue balls since they think they're right about to get paid). They get super aggressive at this stage.
Sent them back "live snaps" of troll/meme mugshots of Sabrina Nichole
Gotten them to curse me out w/ voice messages in their Yoruban/Nigerian slang, saved those messages, and played them back to other scammers (or to the original scammer w/ my other aliases)
Similarly gotten them to send me their real selfies, (a lot of teenage / younger guys), save it, and then send them back to other scammers or to the same person (it really freaks them out)
Convinced some that other "escorts" are competing with them, invite them all to a group chat, where they either trash talk eachother or talk in Nigerian slang to team up on me (I act like im a clueless old guy).
Sent them gross pics like goatse pretending its me
In general just act like I'm extremely incompetent with technology
Sneakily add them all to a growing snapchat group full of scammers (a lot of them quickly recognize this now and often leave and block me)
I feel like there's a ton of other stuff I'm missing that I'll fill out later or I can answer if people have questions, but I think this is actually one the most casual and fun scambaiting I've done. Even though I've baited maybe the range of 80-100 scammers, I feel like the scope of the amount of scammers doing this exact formula is well in the hundreds.
I'll also begin writing some funny bait stories as I remember them in the comments below.
Tbh I find this scam way more acceptable than those antivirus scammers. They're just scamming dumb horny dudes (on average) as opposed to old grandmothers. I'm more embarrassed by the people who fall for it.
One fun thing to do with these scammers is to exploit how unaware they are of the geography of the city. Like I said in my post, they'll try to get you to give them your specific location first and they'll respond with something along the lines of "good I am close / I am 15 minutes away", and they'll say that with anything, you can even just make up random locations.
The reason they ask this (and I've noticed their questioning has evolved over the months) is because my theory is that their initial scam target (where they first began trying to scam people around the world) is actually my city, NYC, and if anyone knows NYC, its super dense and people rarely like to travel deep into boroughs that aren't where they live. Manhattan is somewhat central, but even then going from east village to Washington Heights is a pain and can take an hour. So a commute like going from the Bronx to Deep Brooklyn is basically something that most people will not do. So I think initially when they tried to pull this scam off they just said "NYC" and "Manhattan" as general locations which raised a ton of red flags and made it obvious that they were scammers to normal people.
So it gets fun if you ask them for their location first, they may try to ignore it and ask you for yours again, but you can ultimately get them to spout some random borough/neighborhood and then you can mess with them even more. I think they try to pick a neighborhood that other people have given them answers to (and its usually not a "cool" section of the city tbh).
For example, one silly one I remember is that the scammer told me he's in Yonkers, which is pretty much a separate city north of NYC. I told him I don't travel outside of Manhattan (and that I can't host because I have roommates), and we got into this really silly and intense argument where I think we both got legitimately angry with each other since he thought Yonkers was in Manhattan. He eventually posted a screenshot of google maps "proving" his point...and the screenshot was of a street named "Manhattan Ave" in Yonkers, and he was so proud that he was "right".
Another silly one that happened recently is I flipped the script and asked the scammer where he is, and he responds "USA" and I just replied "Oh me too, we are close!" and he proceeded with the rest of the script of trying to sell me for a hookup without realizing how absurd that is, they just want to move on to the next step within their script. They always have 1-2 common copy paste style responses in case they run into any roadblocks for each of their steps, which I'll detail out in later comments.
How do you get their IRL selfies? Is this using RATs?
Nah this only happened a few times, but it's been when I was able to get a few of the scammers together in a group and they begin doing selfies and live video chats with one another and begin joking around. It's a bit tough to replicate, along with the fact that snapchat alerts people if you screenshot / record while using the app.
Also, you eventually pick up Nigerian slang to use against them, so they think you're one of them and opens them up for these opportunities as well.
Idea for you to try. When they ask where you are from pick Sinclair WY. It has a population of 418. It's the epitomy of a mining town as the gas stations are named after Sinclair WY. When they ask you for your address you can give small town directions like "head down Main and make a right at THE stop light (only one), then turn left at the skinny cow in the field. If you see the fat cow you've gone too far." Have legitimately got directions like this before.
Ha, yeah I already know what they'll say though. Just a standard "oh, I live 15 minutes away" or just some feign that they live close by. I've done similar for random places in NYC real and fake.
My dad was a truck driver. He had a pick up in New Hampshire. He called for directions and was told "turn left at the stump"! I laugh about 50 years after it happened.
i feel like a lot of this applies to the general reddit population. especially the acting generally incompetent with technology bit. like know you just taking a piss with that line lol
This has happened to me too, they added me through my public story on Snapchat or through tinder and some were more closed and only used slang for sexual acts and offers while some straight up said they were hookers and wanted to hook up, after that they would send me the rates like $80 blowjob $150 sex for 1 hr $300 for whole night. Then when we agreed on a place to meet they would say the have reached the location and want half of the money in the form of a gift card and the rest through cash app. But they messed up when they spelled names of cities or places incorrectly multiple times and kept uploading the same pictures and videos on their story. Also a dead giveaway is they never have more than 400 points on their Snapchat profile and the avatar is very bland.
I get a lot with Dani Daniels pics. I send one of her with a facial, "is this you?"
Uhhh these are like 99% scammers from Africa so not sure where you’re getting the cop angle from.

Another thing they’ll do is ask that you send money before they come downstairs to the lobby to meet and ask that you send a screenshot of the e transfer to them.
Hahaha I've created fake cashapp payment screenshots on the fly with photoshop before and it messes them all up. Because it looks legit but they can't confirm it on their side. It's funny to watch them get all worried about what to do next. Love playing their game back at them.

Being stupid I decided to contact an escort through snapchat. We talked for a while and everything seemed normal. After a couple weeks I had time and decided to go through with it. I went to the address I was given and when I got there they requested I sent them money before going in. Being new to this I decided I didn't want to share my info like that so I decided not to do it and blocked them. When I was getting ready to leave the parking area I got a request from a username that was similar to the last one and they got sent me a long message with some sort of slide show with info of my family and friends and requesting I sent them money. Being stupid I sent the money and they said that for another amount they would leave me alone. I didn't have the money so I told them I would send it later that week. The next day the asked for it, I had it so I sent it. (I know it was dumb) well they didn't leave me alone and I sent money a third time a week or two later and they told me I could block them then. I did and I deleted my social media and changed bank account info as well. They knew I had more than 1 bank account somehow as well. I deleted cashapp too. I didn't delete paypal tho. I had forgotten that one of the payments was through PayPal. This was about 3 months ago. Today i received a request for money from the same paypal account. I'm freaking out again, and I don't know if they will send my info to the people on my Facebook or what they will do.

I'm sorry, I don't intend to be mean, but you are acting like the perfect victim here. Block and ignore them. They most likely won't send the photos out because they hope to keep scamming you and once they send the photos they have no leverage anymore. They don't particularly care if you're embarrassed or not; they just want MONEY from you. Stop giving it to them and IGNORE them.
If they DO (very unlikely) send any photos, just tell your family and friends they are scammers who took a face photo or vid from your social media and made it look like you were nude to blackmail you. Laugh it off as a bunch of amateurs who are doing this to hundreds of people and you didn't fall for it.
Yeah I definitely feel pretty stupid. They don't have any embarrassing pictures of me. It's just the conversations we had over snapchat. Which now that I think of it, I never got any notifications that they did a screenshot of the conversation or anything. And I didn't have it set up for it to stay on for 24hrs. What freaked me out was that they were able to get my Facebook information. I deleted facebook, snapchat and Instagram. The only thing I have open now is paypal which Im going to delete as well.
I'm trying not to freak out, it's just hard. And when it first happened, everything happened so quick that it was easier for them to get to me. I just needed some reassurance this time to know that I was stupid to send them the money in the first place, thanks for all your help
There's no need to freak out, just ignore the request. It's not likely that they'll send anything out, but you have no control over their actions. The only thing you can do is ignore the scammers and see what happens. I suggest setting up a Google alert for your name if you are worried that they'll release anything online.
I didn't send any nudes or anything like that. I do have a gf and this is something stupid I did. When they sent me the info they sent me the name of my last girlfriend tho. I just wanna know how they got that info from my last gf, since she's been deted from all my social media for a while
