Samuel Robert Aldrich, 19 broke into a 16-year-old's bedroom and raped her after watching pornography about sleeping girls
A young man broke into a 16-year-old's bedroom and raped her after taking photos of her Melbourne home and watching pornography about sleeping girls.
Samuel Robert Aldrich, 19, didn't know his victim and no one can explain why he decided to attack her in May this year.
He took photos of her family's Cheltenham home and car, four days before the attack.
Aldrich googled 'How to make sure you don't wake someone up' and watched pornography about sleeping girls before approaching the home where his victim slept in a bungalow at the back.
He stayed in her backyard for about an hour before leaving, but alerted the girl's father who went to investigate.
'I saw a guy walking normally along the footpath on the other side of fence and I yelled out to him,' her father said.
'No, it wasn't me,' Aldrich replied calmly when approached by the father, the County Court of Victoria heard on Wednesday.
'I got comfort, I didn't think it was him because he was so calm, so relaxed,' the father said.
He said he was on edge following the encounter, but eventually fell asleep about 1.30am.
The court heard that Aldrich went home to watch more of the same porn before returning about 1.30am.
His victim woke to find him crouched near her bed, and Aldrich told her to 'shoosh' and that he had a knife.

What followed was a prolonged episode of digital rape and sexual abuse, with the victim pleading for him to stop while also talking to him to avoid being harmed, Crown prosecutor Susan Borg told Aldrich's plea hearing.
Aldrich took photos of the victim's genital area, also talking to her after the attack and offering her money.
He fled, but handed himself in to police days later after seeing media reports about the incident.
Defence barrister Justin Hannebery admitted the offending was very serious.
He said Aldrich was remorseful and, as a young offender, had prospects for rehabilitation.

Aldrich, who was supported in court by his parents and extended family, has no prior criminal history.
He was recently diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, something he had not received treatment for in the past.
Judge Susan Pullen, who described the incident as 'hell' for the victim, will sentence Aldrich next week.
'A complete stranger, sexually mauling her,' she said.
Aldrich pleaded guilty to one count each of rape and aggravated burglary, and three counts of indecent assault.

Police are on the lookout for a 41-year-old man who allegedly drugged and raped three of his daughter's friends over the course of seven months when they stayed over at their home in Queens, New York, for sleepovers.
Dwayne Gordon was accused of raping three 13-year-old girls in separate incidents at his home in the Springfield Gardens neighborhood between October 2020 and May, the New York Police Department (NYPD) said in a statement released Friday.
The incidents allegedly occurred while the girls were having sleepovers with his daughter, WCBS-TV reported, citing unnamed sources. According to the sources, Gordon allegedly drugged the victims.
One victim claimed Gordon gave her white pills that caused her to be incapacitated, the New York Post reported, citing unnamed police sources.
Photos of Gordon were released to the public by police, who described him as a Black man who stood approximately 5 feet and 10 inches tall and weighed approximately 180 pounds. He also has brown eyes, short black hair and was said to have had a Jamaican accent.
Gordon was last seen on May 21, an unnamed senior police official with knowledge of the investigation told NBC New York .
Authorities are asking for any information that can help lead to Gordon's whereabouts and arrest.

The case comes two weeks after a 38-year-old Rapid City, South Dakota man was found guilty of raping three girls several times between December 2015 and December 2017.
Teddy Guzman was convicted on three counts of first-degree rape and one count of having sexual contact with a minor. Prosecutors said the oldest victim was 12 when she was raped during a sleepover. The second one was between 9 and 10, and the youngest girl was 5 or 6.
"What these girls have been through in the pursuit of the truth has been hell, and I am so proud of them and so grateful to the jury for seeing that what happened to them was a horror and for putting an end to Teddy Guzman’s reign of terror," prosecutor Lara Roetzel said following the May 13 verdict.
The parents of the oldest victim, now 15, said she "used to be happy all the time and she's not now."
"She doesn't want to do anything," her mother was quoted as saying by local newspaper the Rapid City Journal . "She just has no ambition anymore."
Another victim also told the court she has "stopped caring about things" after the sexual assaults. "I stopped being good. I stopped being nice to people," she said.
Roetzel said the youngest victim no longer trusts men.
