I'm always a bit disgusted by the thought of unremovable underwear. They must be filthy and very unhygienic if you can never take them off to wash them! Very gamebreaking, to say the least!
So I'd like to download a nice body mod, maybe UNP. I can't use NMM though. From time to time I've tried to install a mod using that thing, but I've never been able to figure out how to use it. So I just keep putting the files in the proper places myself.
Know any good body mods that you don't have to use NMM or "Caliente tools", or "presets" for? I don't understand any of them!
aside from CBBE bodyslide not really... not sure how NMM is confusing though

When I've opened NMM, there's a dizzying array of buttons and options and I get confused by it all. Perhaps there is one button to click to make the mod insert itself into the game, but I have no idea which button to press.

really easy. the difficulty comes from when you use mods that conflict in which case what you overwrite is dependent on the mods, but this is the same for manual install so you should be fine.
once you get several mods you should use LOOT to organize them which is really easy as well.

What's that?) , the mod installation registry, (whatever that is) and where the mod files are installed. (I usually just install them myself - textures in the data/texture folder, etc.)
If I click on the next page, setting up new paths for mods and "install info", will the game still load the mods I've already installed in another path?
Then it says "virtual mod" setup. What's a "virtual mod"? It says "select the folder where NMM will place extracted and installed mods." But the one they suggest is on a different path than the one I already use. Which one should I choose?
Then it talks about installing the files on a different HD. At the moment I have "Local Disk (C:)" and "New Volume (D:)" so I'm not sure which to choose, or how to choose it. Any help you can be is greatly appreciated.

okay so when you install NMM and load it the first time it will scan your computer for compatible games. click the green arrow to confirm the games you want (after it has found them) and then continue to the next step.
here select SSE and it will want to setup the directory for the game. really all it wants to know is where the game is so it can place the mods there. it should have found this by itself and you can just hit continue.
after that it should install everything and you should be able to mod at this point.

virtual mod is a thing both MO and NMM have which allows the manager to "artificially install the mods" in other words it doesnt directly overwrite anything which allows for safer and cleaner modding. it's a good thing.

NMM and Skyrim should both be on the same drive. never have them installed on separate ones

You've certainly made things a lot clearer, thanks very much for that. I've updated the NMM, and re-scanned the games. Now it shows a list of the Nexus categories and a list of the "plug-ins" I've got so far. But I have no idea how to use NMM to install another mod. Up at the top it says "launch Skyrim SE" "new profile" "tools" "open folders" and "settings". Down at the bottom it says "you are not logged in". Is there a button I should click to log in? Or to add a mod? And should I launch Skyrim with NMM, or Steam?
for the first time run with Steam. from then on use NMM.
next to 'Pluggins' should be a tab that says 'mods'
Pluggins is your load order and Mods is where all of your mod folders will be. these will contain the downloaded mods. just open them to find the mods and install them.
the log in thing always confused me as sometimes it said i was others it said i wasnt. just ignore it. though if a pop-up shows up asking you to sign in use your site username and password.

NMM will install them where they go. they belong in the Data folder for the most part.

no. use download (NMM) and it will download to the manager after which just double click it in the NMM and it will install.
One slight problem is when I search on Nexus for the UNP body mod, (or 7base or CBBE) I get many mods that *use* UNP but not UNP itself.
However it says that "Enhanced Character Edit" is not required, but when you click on it it says "Enhanced Character Edit" *is* required. Very complicated. So I think I'd better search for another body mod.
Edit: UNP is the only one I could find, and it says "FOMOD" (whatever that is.)
There doesn't seem to be *anything* in the list of "mods" in NMM, even though there's a full list of "plug-ins", which contains the ones I've downloaded from Bethesda.net so far. I'm confused.

ECE is only required for the head meshes. UNP will work without them; it's only that the ECE meshes are more detailed (and pleasing to the eye of many).

FOMOD is a way of packaging mods. Typically when installing such a mod, one or more dialogs are presented to propose different options to install the mod. For example, the UNP mod asks if you want to install nude body textures, or ones with underwear.
