“Are you sure Josh Allen is that guy?”
That’s the question Skip Bayless posed to Shannon Sharpe on Undisputed after the Hall of Fame tight end predicted that the Buffalo Bills would start and end the season against the Los Angeles Rams and walk away with their first Lombardi Trophy.
While Sharpe was adament that Allen was “that dude,” Bayless said he wasn’t so sure. He went on to say that Allen was on the hot seat following
“Is he? Thanks to the Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe, Josh Allen is now officially on the hottest seat in the National Football League and he’s going to have to live up to (the hype).”
Bayless went on to elaborate as to why he felt Allen wasn’t “that guy” in the NFL.
“I don’t (think he’s that dude),” Bayless told Sharpe. “I’m not convinced. I don’t know about the biggest game intangibles. I know he lit it up against Mahomes and it was back and forth, but that Kansas City defense was just a wreck man. I think I could complete a couple passes against it.”
Bayless’ comment is as ridiculous as it gets. When it comes to big games, few quarterbacks have been better than Allen.
Bayless shrugged off Allen’s performance against the Chiefs despite the quarterback throwing four passing touchdowns and totaling close to 400 yards in the loss. Bayless, of course, did not make any mention of Allen’s performance against the New England Patriots in the previous week.
Against one of the greatest defensive minds in football, Allen and the Bills had their way with Bill Belichick’s Patriots. In the Wild Card Weekend matchup, Allen was nearly flawless. He completed 21-of-25 passes for 308 yards and five touchdowns. He would add another 66 yards on six carries.
Bayless also ignored the fact that Allen has the highest playoff passer rating in NFL history (106.6) and that the quarterback has thrown for 250 yards or more while rushing for 50-plus yards in five of six playoff games. No other QB in NFL history has more than three such games according to CBS Sports’ Jeff Kerr .
Despite Allen and the Bills not reaching the promised land to date, there is plenty of evidence that shows the quarterback has the “biggest game intangibles.”
