Skinny Day

a good excuse to get out of your comfort zone and develop
acceptance of yourself and others... united in all our flawed glory.

an opportunity to restore health to women who have been injured and shamed in birth trauma.

a playful way to recognize and encourage kindness (and body positivity). Top fundraisers earn trophy; gear; publicity.
On Skinny Dip Day, let’s restore health to women who have had their bodies injured and shamed in birth trauma. ALL money raised goes to Fistula Foundation — widely regarded as one of the most effective charities in the world . Fistula is a tragic childbirth injury largely eradicated in the developed world, but still devastating women in the poorest countries. It’s curable with life-transforming surgery. Fistula Foundation provides these surgeries, which cost only (on average) $598. Every $598 raised is another woman’s life transformed.
And thank you for joining forces on this collaborative project!

I have lost 90 pounds starting out very close to Freya's weight at 223 at 5'2" and ending up around 130 so I can relate much to what she says. I didn't do it with her method but used Weight Watchers. What resonated with me was her journey and I simply dismissed any Medafast data in her blog for my purposes. Her struggle as weight fluctuated and body changes are what made me want to buy this after reading it for free under Prime. Those moments were what I have and am experiencing today as I work toward my goal weight. So, I would recommend to anyone wanting to read an honest discussion of her emotions. I was dismayed to see the link to Facebook and her blog no longer work so think she may have regained it or something else happened to make her no longer reach out for support from others. Taking the journey with her in two books, I would like to see how she is doing and follow her journey. If anyone knows, I'd appreciate the update.

There aren't huge numbers of books written about people going through starting a MediFast diet. So for that reason, it's a helpful book. I didn't experience any of the anger issues, loss of sleep, or other sources of over-the-top drama described. What I did find helpful was to go back to her Day 7, for example, and compare how my weight loss was going compared to hers and, when I started questioning whether I was having good results when I've lost 7 lbs in 7 days, I could look forward and see that yes, that actually is a really good start. I don't have as much to lose. I've just let myself collect 20-30 lbs. that I would be better off without, so even though the style of the writing is not what I prefer, there is some good content, if you get past the parts that just don't apply to anyone but the author. Would love to see more books that show the journey day by day, but without the drama. That's just a personal style issue. Others may enjoy a little drama in the journey.

In this book, Freya Taylor provides an honest and uplifting account of her weight loss journey. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about her daily thoughts and feelings as she embraced the challenge of overcoming a lifetime of being overweight. Being on a similar journey of using the same Medifast plan for weight loss, I found myself identifying with so much of what she said. Her success and determination to succeed provided me with true inspiration to follow in her footsteps and continue on my way to being 'skinny'. I read this book for the first time in early 2014. I lost 80 pounds, and have kept the weight off for one year. I would read Freya's reflections to keep me motivated. I highly recommend this book to anyone contemplating or currently living the experience of losing weight. You won't be disappointed!

This was nothing comparable to Freya's other book. This is AWFUL!!!! Nothing but I love MF, I love MF, I love MF, I love MF, get the picture? She loves MF (MediFast). And it really has left me wondering how anyone could possible love that program if they are starving and suffering hunger pain for months on end, constantly is fatigued and cold, and is experiencing brain fog and openly states that with her head like that she can't make any kind of decisions or do any critical thinking. Congrats on the weight loss but I really have to wonder if this was a healthy way to lose the weight and whether or not this would be a sustainable lifestyle change. I doubt it very much. Living on high-protein real substitutions and a few leafy greens and low-fat protein isn't the way to go. (Speaking from experience-lost 52 lbs. in 5 months EATING a well-balanced diet not exceeding 1450 calories a day & exercising.) Sorry, this book will only bore you, or hopefully, make you want to lose weight in a healthy manner that includes healthy food, not starving, not being constantly hungry, etc.

I found Suddenly Skinny Day By Day to be a very inspirational accounting of one woman's weight loss journey. Her tenacity certainly paid off and serves to show the rest of us in the same struggle how dogged determination WILL get us to our goals if we just make the right choices in every moment and then act on those choices. Freya's story will surely inspire those in need of encouragement in their pursuit of thinness.

If you're struggling to lose weight, are thinking of signing up with Medifast or just want to feel uplifted this is the right book! Yes, its written from a girl's perspective so guys may have trouble translating it to something that's palatable but let's face it more chicks read these sort of self help books than men, so its pretty relavent. Highly recommend this one!

Really enjoyed this weight loss memoir. I love the way written - where she writes what she experiences as her weight loss progresses.

This, is a very inspiring book . I have read quite a few and this is very motivating. I am on my third time reading this.book. most tell you a diet and most of us know how to lose weight. We need motivation to stick to it.

A great read!

Having done a VCL myself in the past, I could relate so well to much of what Freya wrote;I laughed out loud on more than one occasion and could totally feel her pain on the down days· Well written, honest, gritty and entertaining·····

I lost a hundred pounds. I went from 235 pounds in a size twenty-four to 135 pounds in a size six. I lost eighteen inches each off my waist and hips. I did it in nine months and twenty-five days.
I was fat since childhood, and no matter how thin I am on the outside there’s a part of me that’s sure I’ll make one wrong move and wake up in the morning with the fat girl back on the outside again. And yet? When I wake up in the morning I now pull on size six jeans, no matter how long I was fat before.
I first remember knowing I was fat around fifth grade. I wasn’t huge, but a little goes a long way when other children are quick to mock any difference. Why was I fat? Endless reasons… Emotional trauma, absorbing my mother’s own struggle with food and weight, food was used as a “treat” or a break from work, I ate to stuff my feelings, I used the weight to hide from male attention, the crappy suburban American diet of the 70’s and 80’s, a sedentary family, etc. I had my reasons.
My reasons stayed with me, and collected new reasons. When you’re used to relying on something as an emotional crutch, it’s a hard habit to break. My weight would go up for a while, then down, then back up. During my adult life, it was 50 pounds a breakup. I did this three times before I realized it was a pattern I needed to change or I would be fat forever. Because I didn’t take 50 pounds back off every time, and my trend was steadily upwards.
I was a success and a failure on every diet I ever tried. I was a success because once I decided to lose weight and started a diet, I did lose weight. I would take off 30 pounds or so and start feeling great. I’d be full of energy, loving the way I was looking in my clothes, and I’d drift right back off the diet. I had no problem with that, actually. So what if I weighed 170? I felt fit, full of life, and had a new boyfriend. Every diet was a success.
But then the last breakup was harder. Really, really hard. I just didn’t stop eating. I ate my misery all the way up to 235 pounds and a size 24. It was interfering with my life. I didn’t want to move around, I didn’t want to have fun, and I even heard myself say “I don’t like to dance.” Well, that’s a total lie. I love to dance. But fat me hated the way it made her body tired and her feet hurt.
I had been a failure on every diet before, because I never changed the way I thought and felt about food. I viewed each diet as a temporary thing. I was bailing out my boat every few years, but never fixing the leak, and the leak kept getting worse.
This time I knew I had to change. I had hit bottom. I wanted to live.
I found Medifast, a meal replacement diet, and I knew it was the right one for me. I was challenged by the wonderful veterans of the plan to just try the plan as written and see if maybe someone else was smarter than I was about how to be a thin person. Seeing as I’d never done it on my own, that sounded like pretty good advice to me.
I followed that plan slavishly for a long time. I lost the weight. With minor up and down maintenance struggles, I’ve kept it off.
My life is totally different. My body feels fantastic. I have tons of energy to move, play, dance, garden—whatever I want to do. I look great in my size six clothes. I can wear heels all day and dress up and feel pretty. I painted the outside of my own house, including extension ladder work.
If you haven’t tried being thin, I highly recommend it. It’s a fantastic experience. I’m here to tell you not only how to get there, but how to handle the radical life changes so you can stay there. You won’t regret it, I promise.

1. Eating Right

Ask your parents to take you to see a doctor.
Before you make any changes to the way you eat, you should talk to a doctor. Your doctor can help you to determine how much (if any) weight you need to lose. Your doctor can also help you make a healthy weight loss plan and track your progress.

Your doctor may also refer you to a dietitian, who can design a healthy eating plan for you.

Pick lean meats and other proteins.
When you're deciding on a meal, stick to leaner meats. For instance, steak, hamburgers, and other red meats are often high in fat (though not always). Better choices are chicken, fish, and beans.

Load up on fruits and vegetables.
If you're hungry often, try reaching for fruits and vegetables instead of prepackaged snacks. Snack on celery sticks with natural peanut butter, carrot sticks, or an apple instead of cookies, chips, or cake

Try to pick whole grains.
Whole grains are foods like whole wheat pasta, whole wheat bread, whole cornmeal, brown rice, and oatmeal. On the other hand, refined grains are foods like white rice, white bread, and regular pasta. Whole grains are better for you because they are less refined and have more fiber. That means they'll keep you fuller for longer.

Pick low-fat or no-fat dairy.
Dairy is a good source of calcium and protein. It can also add flavor to your food. However, when picking dairy products, stick to low-fat or no-fat products, such as skim milk, low-fat cheese, and fat-free yogurt.

Skip sugary drinks.
Sugary drinks can add many calories to your day. Try to avoid drinks such as sports drinks, sodas, and juices. Instead, stick with water or even unsweetened herbal tea.

Pay attention to how much you eat.
It's tempting to eat until your plate is empty. However, if you pay attention to when you get full, you'll end up eating much less overall.

Avoid high-calorie foods.
While eating a cookie every once in a while is fine, try to skip eating high-calorie foods every day. These foods include things like cookies, cakes, candies, chips, and burgers. Make these a treat, not something you eat each day.

2. Getting Active

Think about playing a sport.
You don't need to be on your school's hugely competitive basketball team to play a sport. You can join an after school club that plays soccer, or join a league through your city's local parks and recre
