Skin Cleansing

What exactly is it?

To begin with, simply defining what we mean when we say, for example, skin lightening, might be challenging. So, what exactly do we imply? There are skin creams and serums on the market that claim to "fill" wrinkles and improve skin tone. Then there are products that are designed as a dark spot remover, puffiness beneath the eyes, and so on. Finally, there are moisturisers that are designed to hydrate dry or damaged skin.

So, what exactly are we discussing?

Let's go right to the topic, shall we? We're talking about skin treatments that are specifically developed to get rid of black spots (age spots) on the skin. Other negative effects of an effective liver spot remover may exist, and they typically do, but the main purpose of the treatment should be to diminish skin pigmentation spots caused by the natural ageing process, excessive sun exposure, scarring, or simply plain old inheritance. Age Spot Remover, Dark Spot Corrector, Liver Spot Corrector, Skin Lightening, and Pigmentation Corrector are all terms that relate to the same thing: they all lighten skin pigmentation patches.

Is it safe and effective?

There are a few ingredients that have been proven to work. One component, Hydroquinone, stands out among the others. When used topically as directed, in the manner recommended, and for the amount of time directed, hydroquinone is very effective. Hydroquinone is available over-the-counter in concentrations as high as 2%. Prescriptions are available for higher concentrations. If you eat hydroquinone, it can cause difficulties, but if you don't eat it, you'll be alright. All kidding aside, the fact is that the Food and Drug Administration has thoroughly examined Hydroquinone and has repeatedly reaffirmed its safety as a topical treatment. Fair warning and common sense dictate that the treated area not be exposed to direct sunlight. Use a sunblock with an SPF of at least 15 or a cosmetic cover-up with an SPF of at least 15 to protect yourself from the sun's UV rays.

How rapidly should it be implemented?

"If anything appears too good to be true, it probably is," as the old proverb goes. Unless your age spot appeared overnight, it most likely formed over a number of years, either as a result of natural ageing or years of excessive sun exposure. Over a period of weeks, the best age spot removers work softly and meticulously to gradually lessen the age spot to the desired colour. Any age spot remover that promises "overnight miracles" or "instant" results should be avoided. You won't be able to remedy this right away.

What should one budget for?

The pricing range for a given product, as with anything cosmetic, varies greatly. There are items that cost more than $100 and some that cost considerably less. In the end, a two-ounce jar of Hydroquinone 2 percent in an unscented cream version should cost roughly $30.
