How to Download and Install the Instant Road Plugin

The Instant Road plugin is available as a yearly subscription from Vali Architects' website. You can download it from here: https://valiarchitects.com/subscription_scripts/instant-road-nui. The subscription costs $38 per year and includes access to all updates and support. You will need an internet connection to use this plugin.

To install the Instant Road plugin, follow these steps:Download the .rbz file from Vali Architects' website.Open SketchUp and go to Window > Extension Manager.Click on Install Extension and browse to the .rbz file you downloaded.Click on OK and accept the license agreement.Restart SketchUp to activate the plugin.

How to Use the Instant Road Plugin to Create Roads on Terrain in SketchUp

The Instant Road plugin has two main methods for creating roads on terrain in SketchUp: Road from Center Line and Road from Faces. We will explain both methods below.

Road from Center Line

This method allows you to create a road by drawing a center line on your terrain. You can use any SketchUp drawing tool, such as Line, Arc, Freehand, etc., to draw the center line. You can also use existing edges or curves as center lines.

To create a road from center line, follow these steps:Select the center line you want to use for your road.Click on the Road from Center Line icon on the Instant Road Nui toolbar.A dialog box will appear with various parameters for your road. You can adjust the width, shoulder width, curb height, sidewalk width, road profile (flat, crown, or V), road style (asphalt, concrete, gravel, etc.), striping style (solid, dashed, double yellow, etc.), striping color (white or yellow), striping width, striping offset, material alignment (along or across), material projection (flat or projected), and material scale.Click on OK to generate your road. The plugin will automatically create a road surface that follows the terrain elevation and slope. It will also create curbs, sidewalks, striping, and materials according to your settings.You can edit your road by selecting it and clicking on the Edit icon on the Instant Road Nui toolbar. You can change any of the parameters you set before. You can also edit the road elevation and slope by using call-outs or by editing individual vertices.
