Please only use the seat as directed. We did not have the straps on the seat because, honestly, we didn't know there were straps. We popped it out of the bag, set it up and started using it. Super easy. In too much of a hurry I suppose. The straps were tucked away in a pocket of the travel bag and we just weren't aware. Our little 11 month old boy pushed himself backwards in this seat and fractured his skull. He needed an emergency craniotomy for a blood clot on his brain, a blood transfusion and will have titanium screws in his head for the rest of his life. The medical bills are $150,000 and counting. Please use the straps!! Seriously. He will recover but it could have easily gone so much worse. Otherwise, the seat is what it is. It is WAY too hard to get the tray on and off and the waist straps are so awkward. We probably won't ever use it again though. Too many bad memories.
In concept this is a great chair. Portable, multi-functional and practical. But I would caution potential buyers about the ill conceived design of the strap placement. I totally agree with other reviewers that the waist straps and sewn to the bottom of the chair not the backrest as in the picture. While i dont think this affects the safety or function of the straps, it does place the straps lower on the child's body (it rests on the thighs rather than around the waist like where a belt would sit). But My biggest issue is the stupid placement of the bottom flap where the straps lock into place. It's sewn way too inward on the seat (like it should be closer to the edge of the chair but it's practically in the middle of the seat!) - see photo 1. Once my child sits in the chair (she's not a big kid, only 30th percentile in weight and is 13 mos) she ends up sitting on half of the flap so that the buckle ends up being really low (near her crotch) and once you click the side straps in place, the entire buckle is lodged uncomfortably between her thighs rather than higher up like near her belly (I'm sorry I didn't take a photo of that to show you). Thankfully my mom is a seamstress so we moved the placement of the buckle so that it is higher up on the flap and thus raises the entire bucket high enough to clear her legs (see pictures where we unstiched the buckle and moved it up towards the top of the flap. The last photo shows you where buckle is now AFTER we moved tge location) but why should users have to hack a product if it was designed properly? Also agree the tray is a pain to put on and remove. In short, i like the product enough to keep it (because we plan to use it for restaurants, travels and as a kid's chair in our living room) but I would warn anyone who doesn't know how to fix the placement of the buckles or have a sewing machine to reconsider. The location of these straps and buckles does not work! I also wouldn't recommend this to anyone who plans to use it everyday as a highchair replacement. It's way too small of a tray and way too annoying to deal with if using it multiple times a day, everyday. It's really a shame because it could be such an awesome product!
If I could give this 10 stars, I WOULD! I get so many compliments on this little chair and it comes with us everywhere. I started using this when my son was 6 months old, he is now 11 months and still works perfectly. It is easily cleaned with a hose, a pool, a lake... or if you are feeling domesticated, a kitchen sink works fine too. It is super lightweight, foldable and perfect for on the go whatever. I recommend this product to people camping, traveling, or visiting family. It has straps that can safely attach to a chair or you can just plop it right on the ground. For the price, don't waste your money on anything like this at Cabelas, this is for eating and giving yourself a few minutes of peace while your babe hangs out. I used it at the pond when my family went fishing, and my son is a speedy crawler, so it kept him busy while the family fished.... just buy it.
Works well for what we needed. Wanted a lightweight, non-bulky travel chair for feeding. This fits the bill! The bag is a great size - smaller than our diaper bag. I just sling this on my shoulder with the diaper bag and we are good to go. The tray and chair are both small, but my chunky 9mo baby still has lots of room. Estimating maybe 18-24months? The seat belt is only 3poibt, but my baby hates having his upper body restricted so that's fine with us. The belt is secured along the seam between the back and the seat. It works fine, but it really isn't intended to contain any flying leaps! It just keeps them relatively contained. I would not step away from my baby in this - I've strapped it to a variety of chairs and of course it isn't as stable as a standard wide legged high chair. I've also used right on the ground for a picnic and it worked quite well. The back pocket on the chair is a nice bonus, and I use it a lot. The straps are way easier if you just leave them attached to the legs when you pack it up. The little side pouch on the bag holds a spoon, bib, and a food pouch or two very well. Very happy with this chair, and actually everything I've gotten from Summer Infant has furned out to be good!
