A teenage girl, who pinned a woman to the ground during a "vile and horrifying" sex attack, was today found guilty of rape.
Claire Marsh, 18, is thought to be the youngest of the few females ever to be convicted of such an offence in this country.
She punched the 37-year-old victim in the face, called her a "slag", and then ripped off her top before she was gang-raped on a canal towpath.
A 15-year-old boy, who tore off her trousers, then forced the woman to have sex.
Others in the 14-strong group - one aged just 12 - stood around during an shouting encouragement as the sordid scene unfolded shortly after midnight.
When the first youth had finished, Marvin Edwards, 18, also raped her, London's Blackfriars Crown Court was told.
Eventually the screaming victim, who had earlier been hurled into the murky water of the Grand Union Canal in Ladbroke Grove, West London, wriggled free from her attackers, struggled to her feet and made a run for it.
But the woman's desperate bid for freedom was short lived and she was brought crashing to the ground after just a few yards.
The helpless victim - known only as Miss X for legal reasons - was then kicked and punched repeatedly and, at one stage, dragged naked along a gravel path, lacerating her bare skin.
Fearing that if she did not escape she might not survive, she made another run for it.
She was again chased, but this time was more fortunate. A surprised cab driver saw her and then spotted two youths chasing her. And when they saw him they veered away.
The woman, still naked, ran more than a mile altogether, mostly through the all but deserted streets of night-time London. She only stopped when she reached her front door, sobbing hysterically.
Police were called and later found some of her clothing in the canal. The rest were never recovered.
Marsh, of Laleham Walk, Margate, Kent, initially showed no reaction as the seven woman and five men trying her rejected her protestations of innocence and found her guilty of rape on July 22 last year.
But when Judge Timothy Pontius adjourned sentence and rejected a defence application for bail in the interim and remanded her in custody, tears began streaming down her face.
"Given this was a particularly vile and horrifying offence of sexual brutality, a substantial custodial sentence is inevitable," he warned.
To allow her freedom now would entail a risk of her absconding.
She would be sentenced at the Old Bailey on May 8 with Edwards, of Brentford, West London, and 15-year-old who admitted rape at the beginning of the two-and-a-half week trial.
The jury which spent more than nine hours over two days deliberating, cleared a second 15-year-old youth and one aged 16 of the same offence.

Is it normal for teen son to take stepsister's underwear?

Two pairs of underwear (belonging to 17 year old stepsister) were found in my 16 year old's drawer. This has only happened once that we know but my stepdaughter's mother thinks this will lead to him being a child molestor. Is it normal that he did this or should I be alarmed?
I consulted with Steve Brown, Psy.D., Director, Traumatic Stress Institute of Klingberg Family Centers and a former Stop It Now! board member to help answer your question. Steve shared this: "I do not believe that the behavior of taking his step-sister's underwear alone is indicative of a sexual behavior problem and jumping to the conclusion that this will lead him to be a child molester is unwarranted. At the same time, it does warrant follow up."
If he has shown significant problems related to sexual behavior in the past or currently, I would advise taking him to a counselor or therapist to discuss what you learned and your concerns. If he has no history, I would have a discussion with him although it will likely be a bit uncomfortable for him and you. I would warn him at the beginning that this could be a little uncomfortable. Then I would tell him matter-of-factly what you discovered and see how he reacts.
At some point in this conversation, I'd advise telling him that she, you, and his step-mother feel uncomfortable with him taking her underwear and that you'd like him to stop. Make sure you tell him at the end something positive about his willingness to have a hard conversation. If the behavior continues after you set this limit, then I would seek out professional help.
I hope this information is helpful and informs your response to your son. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any additional concerns or questions.

A mum has revealed her heartbreak after discovering that two of her children are in a relationship together.
The mother said she was shocked to learn her son and step-daughter - who’ve been living together as a family since they were toddlers - had formed a romantic bond.
For more Lifestyle related news and videos check out Lifestyle >>
Sharing on Reddit, she said she refuses to accept their relationship and says it makes her “sick and angry”.
“When my son Nathan was two, he met a friend in his daycare class, who we’ll call Abby,” she said.
“Her dad, Jack, was one of the only other single parents there, as his wife had left after Abby was born.
“Jack and I bonded over our children and ended up dating for a year and a half before getting married, and we had our daughter Eliza less than a year later.
“Jack and I always raised all three of our children the same, and though they knew that Nathan had a different dad and Abby had a different mum, we had never thought to question if they saw each other as siblings.”
The mum went on to say that her life was tipped upside down last week when Nathan and Abby admitted they’d been in a romantic relationship for the past few years.
“She said that it happened after they were both adults, that they had gone to relationship counselling when it first started and that they were seriously thinking about marriage,” she said.
“Nathan then told us that they had admitted to having feelings for each other as teenagers, but had never acted on it because they were afraid of ruining their friendship, hurting each other, and most of all what we would think.
“At this point, Jack looked at me, grabbed my hand and hugged our children.
“He told them that he was sorry for us keeping them apart and that he ‘could tell how happy they are together’.
Since Nathan and Abby confessed their love, the mum said she’s struggled to cope.
“I haven’t responded to any of their messages or calls, and pretended I wasn’t home when they tried to visit during the day,” she said.
“I’ve been fighting with Jack since this happened, even so far as telling him ... they would never have my blessing, and I would put them both in therapy for having incestuous desires.
“This really upset him, and the fighting got so bad that I had him sleep in the guest house.
“I’ve never gone this long without talking to my children. I’ve never fought my husband. He’s even threatened me with divorce.
“I have no idea how to navigate this, and every time I think about it their whole relationship just makes me sick and angry.”
Many Reddit users sympathised with the mum’s reaction.
“Nathan and Abby were raised as siblings since they were toddlers and share a sibling not much younger than them,” said one.
“This isn’t a case of you and Jack meeting when your children were all grown, or possibly a much younger sibling they didn’t see much or even living in different houses throughout their childhoods.
“They were raised as brother and sister, and while they don’t share blood, they do have a sister together.
“I think your reaction is completely normal and justified.”
Added another: “It doesn’t matter if they technically don’t share blood.
“They were raised together as siblings since they were three years old, which is about as far back as any of us can remember. This is messed up.”
But others believed there was nothing wrong with the siblings dating, given they’re not related by blood.
“They are adults and it sounds like they took the correct steps before starting a relationship,” said another.
“Perhaps, you should consider therapy to work through your issues with their relationship.
“After all, they aren’t biologically related so this isn’t incest.
“You can’t force them to feel like siblings just because they grew up together.”

A mother-of-two called the police after finding out that her 13-year-old daughter had been sending and receiving nude pictures of herself and other teens on her tablet computer.
The mom, who has not been named to protect her identity, from Dinwiddie County, Virginia, was horrified when she discovered sexually explicit content on her daughter’s electronic devices.
Her daughter had been 'sexting' boys a series of naked images on her cell phone and tablet computer and had received similar pictures back in response.

Police: The worried mom made the difficult decision to call the police over the incident to protect her daughter
Her mother told WTVR : ‘What scares me is... this much bigger than we realize. How many others are doing this and you don't realize it.’
The parents became aware of their 13-year-old’s activity when their other child heard voices in her bedroom around 4 a.m.
They punished her and took away her electronic devices.
But when they had a quick look through the device they were unprepared for what they found.
‘Looking through the phone and the tablet we did find, sexual pictures, conversations, that were very inappropriate for her age,’ she said.
However, while none of the images showed their daughter with anyone else she was sending most pictures to boys who would then text one back to the eighth grader.
But worryingly, one 'sext' involved a high school senior.
‘We believe them to be 17-18ish... Definitely older than her, did request they have sex,’ she said.
‘Everybody wanted to be her friend, because according to these people, she was cool now.’
The girl could face criminal charges.
But her concerned parents said that they called in the sheriff's office to protect her.
‘We did this now to protect her. For now and in the future, because this could get worse, she could be taken,’ she said.
Commonwealth's Attorney Lisa Caruso said there are other options for the teen, not necessarily going through the court system.

However, the older teens could face felony charges depending on their ages.
Now, the mom is urging other parents to do more to protect their kids.
She said parents should start by having all electronics fitted with parental controls to keep children away from dangerous apps.
