I'm just wondering. I never really put thought into what the history of sissy was. All I know is they're boys that really like to wear fancy clothing (princess clothes included) and like beauty products. But I know the word was also used as a way to degrade others (usually males) for not being masculine enough. Putting from what I know aside, what is the history of sissies in our community?
Not sure on the history, but I found it interesting to know that prior to about the 1920's-1930's that pink was considered more of a masculine color and blue was more for the female gender. Also, boys were dressed commonly in dresses up to about the 1930's. I found all this stuff in an article on the net that was dealing with clothing history. And yes, I found some old, old photos of family members (little boys) who were wearing dresses. Not true sissies since many probably didn't have a choice on their attire.

I think it may find it's origins more with the gay community, gender crossing, etc. There also was something called petticoating but I'm not sure how historically accurate that is. Of course, for the AB/DL community, being a sissy tends to occur when diaper wearing and regressing, the male regressing as a baby or toddler girl.

There is a book called "Vested Interests" which talks about crossdressing and society. "Tootsie" was a theme played by many men who for various reasons crossdressed. Things seem to work out well with the deception until both people have to be in the same place at the same time.
