Town erupts in a frenzy of festive joy as the unmistakable sound of brass bands and excited cheers signals the arrival of the beloved figure himself! St. Nicholas swept into the heart of the city today, not on a sleigh, but aboard a majestic, horse-drawn carriage, kicking off the annual Sinterklaasintocht in a blaze of spectacular colour and noise.

The Grand Parade was a dazzling spectacle, transforming the main streets into a river of red robes and white beards. St. Nick, resplendent in his traditional bishop's attire, waved benevolently from his perch, his long white beard flowing in the breeze. He wasn't alone! A retinue of loyal Zwarte Pieten, their faces smudged with soot and grinning mischievously, tumbled from floats, distributed pepernoten biscuits to the throngs of wide-eyed children lining the route, and performed gravity-defying acrobatics that drew gasps and delighted shrieks.

Crowds packed the pavements ten deep, craning necks for a glimpse. Parents hoisted toddlers onto shoulders, while teenagers danced to the infectious rhythms of marching bands. Decorative floats depicting Dutch windmills, giant candy canes, and scenes from the Sinterklaas legend rolled by, throwing sweets into the cheering masses. The air buzzed with the sweet scent of freshly roasted nuts and the cheerful cacophony of bells, whistles, and happy shouts of 'Sinterklaas! Sinterklaas!'
