Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin season 1 has come to an end, and here’s a breakdown of everything that went down for the group in Millwood.
Content warning! This article discusses storylines that involve suicide, rape, and sexual assault. It also contains spoilers for Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin season 1's finale! Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin season 1's ending was full of revelations, and in true franchise fashion, there were plenty of surprises worth analyzing. Original Sin kicked off a new era of the popular Pretty Little Liars franchise with creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa using the foundation of "Liars" and "A" to build a new and exciting story. While the Original Sin season 1 finale wrapped up several storylines, the debut installment ended with a major cliffhanger.
Though Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin primarily followed a group of teens in the present day, the story deeply relied on an event from 1999. The event was the death of Angela Waters, a teenager who was deeply connected to Davie Adams, Sidney Haworthe, Corey Bryant, Marjorie Olivar, Elodie Honrada, and in turn, their respective daughters: Imogen, Tabby, Faran, Noa, and Mouse. Following the death of Davie, "A" began targeting the teens, who took it upon themselves to solve the truth behind Angela's death and how she was connected to "A."
While the present-day group quickly figured out that their moms were hiding their link to Angela and her suicide, there was another key figure involved: Sheriff Tom Beasley . The father of Karen and Kelly Beasley spiraled after Karen's death. His grief turned to rage, with his wife and Kelly the victims of his anger. Imogen and her friends discovered that Tom also raped Angela shortly before his suicide, and for a time, they thought he could have been "A," but that wasn't the case. While Tom's involvement led to Mrs. Beasley stabbing him, the search for answers eventually led Imogen, Tabby, Faran, Noa, and Mouse to a showdown with "A" and a surprising figure who had been around throughout Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin season 1.
With several suspect names crossed out, Imogen and the group decided to return to the Waters house in search of clues. There, they got insight into the identity of "A" before being summoned to the high school after their mothers were kidnapped. Upon showing mercy to their own bullies, the girls were reunited with the moms as the truth regarding "A" and Angela was finally revealed.
Granted, Imogen was still deemed a target due to Davie's past actions because "the sins of the mother must fall upon the child." This resulted in a chase and climactic battle involving "A" and Imogen, where the latter came out victorious. With "A" and Sheriff Beasley stuck in a hospital bed, with other guilty figures arrested, many of those involved were able to get closure, especially Imogen, who gave birth and came to terms with her mom's past. That said, while the surviving group celebrated Christmas, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin went down the cliffhanger route by confirming that "A" was back on the loose.
Like the first Pretty Little Liars show, Original Sin heavily focused on the mysterious identity of "A." It wasn't an "A-team" or secret family member of the core group but instead family members of Angela Waters, who was the centerpiece to another mystery involving the girls' mothers. The primary "A" in Original Sin was Archie Waters, Angela's twin brother " with a face only a mother could love ," explaining why he was kept hidden from the rest of the town. "A" assisted with avenging Angela's death, which was not a result of Tom Beasley raping her but the bullying from Davie, Sidney, Elodie, Corey, and Marjorie. In doing so, "A" targeted the group's daughters, so all would pay for Angela's bullying. Though others were killed in the process, like Karen and Tyler, "A" followed a precise plan, but Archie wasn't the mastermind. That title went to Principal Marshall Clanton, who also doubled as "A," at least when it came to sending threatening gifts and concocting the revenge plan.
Archie, or "A," in the Pretty Little Liars spinoff , was the primary threat plaguing the Millwood group, but he was only the muscle behind the revenge plan. The actual person pulling the strings was Archie and Angela's birth father, Marshall Clanton, who also served as Millwood High School's principal. Clanton had a romantic relationship with Rose Waters when she became pregnant with twins. The Clanton family paid off the Waters, so Rose relocated before returning to Millwood years later when Angela was in high school. By then, Clanton was already working at the school and saw firsthand how other students terrorized his daughter, but he kept his connection to her a secret. As time went on, Principal Clanton must have needed some sort of justice served, targeting the original bullies and their daughters and claiming he didn't want Angela to die in vain.

Imogen couldn't accept that her mother would take her own life, especially since Davie was the one constant in Imogen's life. There was also the fact that Imogen was pregnant, and Davie vowed to help her teenage daughter raise the child. For much of season 1, Original Sin hinted that Davie might have been murdered, specifically by "A," even though the local police deemed the death a suicide.
In the end, Imogen uncovered the sad truth about the Original Sin moms when the actions of "A" and Principal Clanton proved that Davie did indeed die by suicide due to guilt in connection with Angela's death. Seeing as Davie vowed to "erase" Angela, she led the charge in shunning the innocent classmate, as proven by the journal entries Imogen found with Davie's corpse. The bullying may have led to Angela's death, but Imogen claimed her mother was a changed person later in life. At her mother's grave, Imogen finally seemed to accept Davie's fate, vowing to remember who her mom became rather than remember who she was as a teen. It served as a fitting sense of closure, seeing as Original Sin began with Davie's death.
One of the biggest mysteries surrounding Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin season 1 was the father of Imogen's baby. The show purposely kept the identity a secret before revealing that Imogen became pregnant after a tragic encounter following Karen and Kelly Beasley 's house party. It turned out that Imogen was raped that night at a nearby beach, and the person who impregnated her also sexually assaulted Tabby. Sadly, Tabby's growing suspicions about her best friend became true because Chip was revealed to be responsible for both rapes, meaning he was also the father of Imogen's baby.
The group failed to get DNA proof, so Imogen and Tabby went to the source, forcing Chip to admit to his despicable actions. Imogen was correct in labeling Chip "psychotic," considering he assaulted his best friend Tabby and got romantically closer to Imogen, who he knew was unaware she was carrying his child. Interestingly, when "A" showed up, Imogen and Tabby convinced him to go after Chip for being a rapist, and the figure listened. Despite getting away, Chip seemingly had several more run-ins with the masked killer, "A." First, he was held hostage at the school during "the trial" and again after Chip made bail following his arrest. His sexual assaults and lack of remorse eventually caught up to him since "A" went after Chip again following the escape from the hospital. Imogen and Tabby wanted justice, even showing interest in pressing charges, but Chip was likely killed by "A" in the cliffhanger ending.
Imogen wasn't in great shape when she went into labor in Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin season 1's finale. However, she ended up giving birth to a healthy baby girl. Being 16 years old, Imogen believed adoption was the only real option since Davie was no longer around to help raise the child. During the Christmas celebration, Imogen revealed to Tabby that she found a couple from Rosewood willing to adopt. The couple, of course, was Aria and Ezra from Pretty Little Liars , which now opens an opportunity for Lucy Hale and Ian Harding to reprise their roles in Original Sin season 2. The fact that Imogen also mentioned their agreement in an open adoption further teases a Pretty Little Liars crossover with Original Sin as Aria and Ezra will soon become important figures in her birth daughter's life.
Imogen went toe-to-toe with "A" during their fight in Imogen's old house, stabbing Angela's twin brother multiple times. Though "A" looked lifeless, he survived and was being kept under surveillance at the Millwood hospital. As Imogen and Tabby contemplated whether the terror surrounding "A" and Angela was over, they fittingly brought up the notion of sequels. Believing it was all over, the closing moments of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin season 1's finale unveiled "A" killed hospital employees, the cops keeping watch, and a bedridden Sheriff Beasley during his grand escape. He then made his way to Chip's house to continue his previous rampage, implying Imogen, Tabby, Noa, Faran, Mouse, and their families are still in danger, teasing a sequel will play out in Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin season 2.
