Sims 3 Game Freezes But Animations Continue
August 12th- It's time for our Friday Highlights! You can check them out here !

Main reason I have never really gotten into The Sims 3: Fix one problem, and another is right around the corner.
Back to the topic... After maybe 30mins-1 hour of gameplay, my game gets stuck/freezes, but animations continue. e.g. Plumbob bobbing up and down, snoring Zs, trees blowing in the wind, music and ambient noise still plays.
I just can't do anything... can't save it, can't move the camera, can't click on anything. That's it... doomed. It never unfreezes. I've seen some people suggest it could be a stuck Sim which you can reset, but I can't get the cheatbox up either.
Any ideas? I have to terminate the process everytime... It's getting old.

Game freezes but animations continue?
Sooooo. I thought this was just with midnight hollow but it just happened in sunset valley as well, but after a bit of playing my game freezes! But certain animations continue, such as water ripples, plumbob, plants etc. I'm able to move the cursor but I can't click anything. I've tried downloading overwatch and error trap, didn't work. Tried using overwatch to reset everything, didn't work. Uninstalled the town I was playing in and reinstalled it, didn't work. Idk what to do. I just want to be able to play this game ;-;
Also don't get rid of Overwatch, Errortrap and Master Controller - they don't fix the game immediately, they prevent bugs in a long run.
What's your hardware specs? (CPU, GPU, RAM)
they already did this and they have a radeon card which has problem with directx games.
here is first part of their deviceconfin.log which gives you hardware specs.
=== Application info === Name: Sims3 Version: Build: Release === Rating info === GPU: 5 GPU Memory: 1 CPU: 1 RAM: 4 CPU Speed: 1397 Threading: 3 Adjusted CPU: 1463 RAM: 11754 Adjusted RAM: 11242 Cores: 4 === Machine info === OS version: Windows 7 6.1.7600 OS prod type: 0 OS major ver: 6 OS minor ver: 1 OS SP major ver: 0 OS SP minor ver: 0 OS is 64Bit: 1 CPU: AuthenticAMD Brand: AMD A6-3400M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics Family: 15 Model: 1 Cores: 4 HT: 0 x64: 0 Memory: 11754MB Free memory: 8389MB User: Tanner Computer: TANNER-HP === Graphics device info === Number: 0 Name (driver): AMD Radeon HD 6520G Name (database): AMD Radeon HD 6520G [Found: 0, Matched: 1] Vendor: ATI Chipset: Vendor: 1002, Device: 9647, Board: 169b103c, Chipset: 0000 Driver: aticfx32.dll, Version: 8.17.10.1404, GUID: D7B71EE2-D507-11CF-F076-9136BEC2C535 Driver version: 1404 Monitor: \.\DISPLAY1 Texture memory: 32MB <>
Bold part is the problem. Maybe you can explain it more detail with instruction for their card which also is in my comments of this post. Opengl games and directx games are similar to a computer in code in this area.
Processor: AMD A6-3400M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Grahpics 1.40 GHz
Installed RAM: 12.0 GB (11.5 GB usable)
System Type: 64 bit operating system, x64-based processor
You're a life saver! Finally got around to following this guide and it worked like a charm
just wanted to chime in, I'm having the same issue as OP despite having much better specs than them. (i7-8800k, GTX 1060 6gb, 32gb RAM, 1tb M.2 Drive)
TS3 also isn't a demanding game (it wasn't then and it isn't now). I'm led to believe the issue is due to some sort of driver bug and EA's lack of support for the game. IMO optimization is always better than throwing money in something that may or may not work. I would recommend the above guide (its working for me) and Turbulebent's other comment guide if that doesn't work. PLaying with 1 pack at a time is probably the way to go if you really want to reduce conflict for a potato PC
Thank you for the offer but I really don't have enough money for a new computer haha
Sorry I am back. Delete featureditems folder. Next open and close launcher. It all way but make sure print out new featureditem folder. Do steam guide but skip 1-4 do rest but each bug mod group in it own folder and label them record to it's pack. you will playing with two subfolders at a time. You only allow to play with one pack. You allow in tiny world. No cc and no mods that are not on steam guide. Please install windows 10 because virus and ransom. Yes, sims 3 run on windows 10. The Pc security channel will advice on ant-virus.
Now if you find that you want to buy the hp pavilion gaming computer. Just ask because I more advice for people want to upgrade and I will give it. But right now there no point.

Game keeps crashing but animations continue

I have almost all Nraas mods installed including Overwatch,Errortrap Mastercontroller,SP etc. But the crashing happens Allot like a few times a day. I don't remenber my specs but i know they are quite good. My pc costed a few thousand dollars and its relatively new so it's not the specs. I have storyprogression on extreme settings like no limit on town population and pregnancies happen every day on the game. But no lag. So i know it isn't that. And i was only on week 2 on the game. This has happend over 300 times in the past year and half of the time i didn't even have SP installed (SP meaning Story Progression) Ea obviously doesn't care just like how the sims4 is still bigged and likely will stay that was after they abandon it eventually after sims5 comes. They only care about money, but it isn't worth complaining about it because nobody listens anyway. I just want to know if there is ANY way i can reduce this crashing. I can get my specs later but i am not on PC right now. Is there any settings i can change routing to reduce stuck sims, or settings that increases how much ram the game uses etc? Does having the game on full graphics cause crashing as well? Even though my pc can handle the highest settings. Or is it because i have all game packs and stuff packs and 50k worth of simpoints of CC on the game? Including all of the CC worlds by EA.

First, what do you mean that the game crashes but the animations keep going? A game crash would mean the game stops, and exits, and isn't running any more, so there couldn't be animations continuing. Maybe something else is happening? Next, are you limiting the framerate through an external application, such as your video card control panel, or Riva Tuner? (you should be with a good system).

Bump, Anyone please help? I posted my System info above if it helps

Cruinne mentioned this but I don't understand from your answer if you actually did it or not so here it goes. 1) You need to limit your framerate (FPS) to the refresh rate of your display. That is the most important thing you should do. If you do not do this just don't play the game. New NVIDIA drivers have the option to directly limit the FPS value to whatever you want in the NVIDIA Control Panel so limit the FPS of "TS3W.exe" to 60 FPS and enable VSYNC within the same panel. And after you do this go in game, press CTRL+Shift+C, type "fps on" and check if the value goes above 60. If it does go above 60, you didn't do it properly so check if it works again. (It can occasionally become 61-62 for a fraction of a second even if you did it correctly but that is fine. What is wrong is the FPS value going like 100-150-200-300 etc. At max, refresh rate needs to be around 60 FPS.) It is also good to check if this still works after every NVIDIA driver update because sometimes it just forgets what you set in the previous driver. If you don't limit your FPS, your CPU will overheat, you GPU will overheat and as a result both will throttle and as a result of this your performance will decrease and long time exposure to overheating can even burn your CPU. 2) Which world you are playing is important. Do not play in Isla Paradiso (which is the default if you have Island Paradise) The world alone is broken and if that is not enough boat routing also is not the best. And in this world you have to use boats at some point even ignoring all the other problems it has. Bridgeport is also another problematic world. Just to mention. 3) I don't know if NRaas Traffic fixes the problem with Limos so just in case install "Nona's No Limos" mod. There can be like 30000 limos that Overwatch cleans up overnight and I am not exaggerating with that number. 4) Disable memory system because each of the 200 sims in your world constantly get memories and the game tries to keep track of everything and it becomes laggy after time. 5) Use NRaas Register to disable Wild Horses and Stray Cats and Dogs because they can cause routing issues which is the main reason of lag for this game. 6) Don't login with your TS3 account in-game because it makes the game laggy. 7) Don't use Interactive Loading Screens because it causes the game to use more memory after load up. 8) Check out https://www.nraas.net/community/TIPS-FOR-BETTER-GAME-PERFORMANCE for other small tips. 9) StoryProgression, while it is a good mod, can also cause lag in some situations. In the above link it mentions these: -Story generation is governed by SP. If you think that's what's causing the lag, you can manage which stories you don't care to see with NRaas > SP > General Options > Options:Stories > Disallow Story -If you would rather specify which sims the displayed stories should be about instead of their subject matter, it's NRaas > SP > General Options > All Stories -Turn down SP's speed to one of the two slower ones, NRaas>SP >General Options > Adjust Speed (set to Slow or Snail). If those three are not enough, I also increase the length of speed cycles. Most of them for me are like 1500-2000 sim minutes. It makes the SP barely work, but even barely working NRaas SP is better than EA SP .p That's all from me. Good luck
