Simple Jewelry Photography Props That You Can Use

Simple Jewelry Photography Props That You Can Use

Here is a list of jewelry photography props I use when photographing Gold Plated Pendant Necklaces, Gold Plated Earrings, rings, and bracelets. Props are the items I use to position earrings or necklaces in a way that allows me to photograph them at the right angle.

These images were taken during a project for Sea Lustre Jewelry – Brooke Hartman, the lead designer and GIA graduate gemologist behind the brand, took the photos below. Her designs all feature hand-chosen South Sea and Tahitian pearls.

Note: The photos in this post were taken from about a meter away so that you can see the prop I used to photograph the jewelry. Zooming in on the actual photo would allow me to get as close as possible to the jewelry. Otherwise, your photos may appear blurry.

Simple But Creative Jewelry Photography Props

  • Photograph Gold Plated Pendant Necklaces:

To photograph necklaces I use three props: one for shorter Gold Plated Pendant Necklaces and another for longer necklaces. A standard bust is used for layered necklaces.

  • Pendant Stand:

It is useful because it has slots that you can use depending on whether the V shape of your Gold Plated Pendant Necklaces image is wide or narrow. It can also accommodate different lengths and types of chains.

This is the stand I use, but you can use any other similar one. This stand was purchased on Amazon in a dark brown color. I spray-painted it white to prevent the dark colors from reflecting onto the jewelry.

  • Photography Long Necklaces

I needed a stand to hang long necklaces so I made one myself. A few picture nails and wood. This is what I use to make 30-inch necklaces. These long Gold Plated Pendant Necklaces are too large for the stand above. They would touch the surface.

This could be used for shorter necklaces, but this stand is much more versatile. If you have a better stand, this could be your only stand.

How to Simple photography With Gold Plated Earrings?

  • Studs or Other Earrings with a PostBack:

An acrylic stand with two holes is ideal for Gold Plated Earrings with stud backs. It is perfect for earrings with a back. For small studs, you can just lay them flat on any surface.

  • Photographing Gold Plated Earrings With Hook Backs

This is a frame similar to the one above, but with a cutout in the center. Clear acrylic thread is used, which I attach with clips. To achieve floating earrings, the clear thread is removed in photoshop.

Although I can't recall where it came from (a small shop I found while searching the internet), I did check online to see if there was anything similar. It's easy enough to make if you're handy. You can use a few pieces of wood, like the necklace prop, and tie some clear or white thread on top.

To allow color correction in Photoshop, the three cards (black and gray) are shown above. These will be the subject of another post.

Other Jewelry Photography Props

  • Acrylic Sheet or White Tile:

Although I have never used this if you want natural reflections of jewelry in photos, a glossy black or white tile might be a good choice. You can also find acrylic sheets similar to these at amazon through this link.

  • White Putty or Prop Wax For Rings and Bracelets:

Prop wax or white putty is used to make a ring stand. This white putty is my favorite because it doesn’t stick to your fingers or product. Prop wax is also an option.

Summary:

These props will help you achieve that. While I have tried many different props to photograph jewelry, the ones listed above are my favorites. This post should have given you some ideas about what props to use for photographing jewelry.
