Wow that is sad. Definitely puts the risk in perspective when considering the surgery
this poor girl. I want bottom surgery more than anything but I'm terrified of this happening. If I'm right, this is a rectal neo-vaginal fistula (video about it) . I've had complications with an unrelated surgery in the past, which makes me fear surgery already. Having this happen would be my ultimate nightmare. I'm so sad to see someone living with this. I had thought that the problem could be fixed with follow-up surgeries but the fact that she's still using a bag after 2-3 years is really disheartening. why couldn't I just be born with a vagina like half of all humans ever holy shit
I don't think I've ever heard of a complication like this from someone "brand-name," like Suporn/Banks or what have you. It seems likely to me that this 1/100 number may be much lower when you're going to a surgeon who literally ONLY does vaginoplasty.
What kind of surgery did you get? I’m confused why a vaginoplasty would disrupt colon function and require a stoma.
I was confused about this as well. It's possible that she got a sigmoid colon vaginoplasty and that the ileostomy developed as a result of harvesting the intestinal graft for the vagina, but that's definitely a lesser-used procedure because of how much more invasive and dangerous it is.
I was wondering the same thing. I'm already on the fence about GCS.
My friend ended up with the fistula and decided against the ileostomy and now just has poo in her vagina sometimes. She’s so ashamed of it and she’s only told me and one other friend.
I’m so glad Sienna Grace is openly talking about it. I hope this complication is rare but I hate that my friend feels so alone and bad about herself.
I believe I once saw her say Sherman Leis in a Facebook post before surgery, but that's difficult to verify at this point.
