Family Therapy in Sidney, BC
See all counsellors in Sidney
My specialities include complex post traumatic stress disorder, childhood neglect/abuse, attachment issues, sex and love addictions, dissociative tendencies, and couples and
family
counselling.
I draw from a range approaches depending upon your needs and preferences. Among them are cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal neurobiological ideas,
family
systems therapy, and attachment theory. It is common for clients to arrive with issues identified only to discover that there are other deeper and more fundamental issues which underlie them. I work at a pace compatible with your ability to integrate change. I am gentle and encouraging, but firm and forthright. I provide a free initial consultation so you can determine whether you feel comfortable with me. My aim is for you to feel welcome, safe and comfortably challenged.
I can offer support whether you are trying to navigate personal experiences and difficulties, the world of parenting, blending a
family
, trying to make a relationship work or experiencing separation or divorce.
Accepting new clients (updated Feb. 2022). Website: https://contactcoastal.ca. Knowing I will listen without judgement, and offer unconditional support can help you unburden yourself of whatever you're experiencing. Whether you're feeling down, stuck, frustrated, anxious, have relationship issues, or don't understand your feelings. We will explore what it is you're going through in a safe, supportive environment so that you can gain better understanding and find possibilities to move forward. If an office doesn't suit you, inquire about going for a walk and talk, or meeting virtually.
I provide counselling services to children, youth, adults, and families. I specialize in anxiety, ADHD, depression,
family
counselling, relationship issues, and nature-connection. Typically, the clients I see want to improve their mental health and relationships, and they are looking for new ways to manage life's many challenges. I am a counsellor who is culturally sensitive, LGBTQIA2S+ friendly, and FNHA registered.
When confronted with challenging times - whether it is struggling with mental health, your relationships, addiction, identity or just not knowing what to do - feelings of despair, loneliness, desperation, and fear can overwhelm hope.
Are you struggling to overcome a significant and seemingly insurmountable challenge in your life? Are there issues present in a relationship that you would like to understand more thoroughly, find answers for and resolve? If so you have come to the right place. It is my passion and my life's work assisting clients in reaching or returning to a state in which they are flourishing in their lives and relationships. The first step in the process is to contact me by telephone or email. I will respond within one business day. I am pleased to provide initial telephone consultations at no charge.
Sometimes life throws us a curve ball that we have a difficult time managing on our own. The good new is we don't have to, and you have taken the first step. I know it can sometimes feel like there’s no way out and this is just the way you are, but I’m here to tell you, it’s not and there is. Together we are going to work to breakthrough the things that have been bringing you down, getting in your way, and holding you back –Collaboratively, we will work to help you gain the skills and confidence needed to live your best life possible. I am committed to providing a safe, non-judgemental counselling environment.
Adverse Childhood Events (ACEs), in our tender years, whether they were caused by abuse, neglect or chronic parental mis-attunement are not only impediments to thriving in one's life, they increase the risk of serious physical disease in later life. Whatever hurts inside is simply asking to be known and loved. I believe that the difficulties and traumas of life need never define us as human beings. Rather, I believe that when safety, skillful caring and authentic connection are finally available for us, these very traumas can become the doors through which we discover our own unique gifts, talents and power as individuals.
Is your relationship going through a rough patch and you don’t have the energy to have that same fight one more time? Are you pushing through the heartbreak of yet another dating disaster? Does it feel like your
family
is falling apart? If so, you're in the right place. I help clients struggling with important relationships. You may recognize that you've been feeling anxious, depressed, disconnected, or overwhelmed, but you don't know where to turn or how counselling can help.
I work with loved ones and addicts so the whole
family
can receive the help required.
Having an addicted person in your life can feel like a nightmare and tear your
family
apart. In order for addiction to have a chance of healing, we must first address the dynamics of the addict's relationships with their loved ones. Many loved ones unwittingly enable the addiction to continue, sometimes because they want to avoid confrontation and conflict. As the enabling continues, the addiction continues as well-and becomes progressively worse. It is important to understand that enabling an addict is never a loving act-and only leads to more severe consequences as time goes on.

In over thirty years working as a psychologist, I have become convinced that the most effective way to help others is through a collaborative approach. When the client and therapist work together to find solutions, the emphasis is placed on the client’s individual perspective and the strengths and successes they have already achieved. At the core of therapy, I believe, is a non-judgemental and compassionate view of how everyone’s personal journey involves overcoming suffering and moving towards self-acceptance, empowerment and emotional well- being.

In addition to in office sessions, we offer online/video and phone/text/email support. At Lilypad Counselling we can meet your specific needs. Through personal insight and awareness, you can begin to mend relationships and feel lighter, more connected and equipped to manage life's challenges.
My work with clients is informed by attachment theory. Areas of expertise include marriage counselling, adoption and foster care, and parent-child relationships. I successfully work with children, youth, and adults struggling in a variety of ways including depression and anxiety.
I help people with issues that arise in their lives and work. Although my approach is known as "existential-humanistic", it is really much simpler than it sounds. I assist my clients with questions about their relationships, identity, and meaning by helping them resolve matters in a caring, human, and responsible manner. My methods challenge clients to find out who they really are so they can change into the authentic beings they want to be. I work with men, women, and children and find couples and families work especially rewarding and effective.
If you are thinking of connecting with a counsellor, I encourage you to give me a call. Sometimes we find ourselves seeking a safe place to look at our life and the things that trouble us with someone who knows how to help. I would like to offer this to you. I am warm, engaging, and understanding. I will work with you to address the challenges you are facing. Everyone needs somewhere they can talk freely through difficulties. This is that place. Relax and explore in confidentiality, safety, in a relationship free of judgement and full of compassion, a place where there is comfort enough to look inside and grow.
At Ginger Henderson Counselling Services, we exist to inspire and support those who wish to cultivate a balanced mind, resilient spirit, and a renewed sense of self-confidence. My team of highly trained Counsellors are compassionate and resourceful and here to support you through whatever may be troubling you. If you are suffering through trauma, substance abuse, life changes, a loss of a loved one, parenting or relationship issues, depression, anxiety or simply wanting to change your life patterns, we are here. We work with clients from various backgrounds and strive to make every client feel comfortable and important.
Before getting into who I treat you should know that because of Covid-19 I am only doing sessions online or by telephone. The clients I treat are adults who may be dealing with things such as anxiety, PTSD, trauma,
family
of origin issues, relationship issues, grief and loss, depression, life decisions, career challenges, life and workplace stress. I see clients wanting to overcome a personal challenge to be able to feel more free and alive to pursue a healthier and less stressful life. I also see couples wanting to improve their relationship skills and reduce conflict.
In doing this, I consider the narrative that you tell yourself about your life, as well as
family
of origin factors, in addition to intergenerational aspects, such as inherited
family
trauma.
Do you feel stuck in dysfunctional and repetitive patterns which are impairing your life in different ways? Are you having difficulty in moving beyond a particular period of your life? Do you find yourself reacting to events and people in ways that make you question whether or not you are living your life to the fullest? Psychotherapy may help address these above questions, and help you work towards your goals of living an empowered and authentic life.

If you're looking for family therapy in Sidney or for a Sidney family therapist these professionals provide family therapy services and structural family therapy services. They include family therapists and marriage family therapists. Therapists in Sidney using the techniques of 'family therapy' (also referred to as marriage and family therapy and family counselling) view change in terms of the systems of interaction between family members. Family relationships often affect psychological well-being and, regardless of the origin of an issue, or whether it may be the "individual" or "family" who is presenting it, involving the family in the solution can be of great benefit. Families participate directly in sessions during which the family therapist helps conversations in a way that draws upon and builds the strengths, wisdom and support of the wider family unit.
