Moms don’t have time to get sick! How to survive as a sick mom. These realistic tips are a must for getting back on your feet.
It might feel impossible to give into the sickness and treat yourself as you would others in your family. However, you deserve time to heal too.
Most often we worry about taking care of others or letting things slide and ending up with even more work. With these realistic tips for moms you can get through this and hopefully recover quicker too.

There is one person in the household who is not allowed to get sick. We all know who that is, right? Well, we moms do.
Moms care for everyone else and don’t often take time for ourselves. So, what happens when Mom gets sick?
For the past month, this mom has been taking care of sick kiddos. First the oldest one was sick. The next week his little sister was sick.
Little Lady had enough of a fever that we ended up at the doctor where they found an ear infection. Thank goodness we went because the next day school was called off for a coming snow storm and Thanksgiving break started early.
We were fortunate to have the antibiotics before heading up to the cabin. However, when we returned home our poor girl had broken out in a rash. Another day home from school and back to the doctor we went.
Of course, wouldn’t you know it, just after getting into the gown Little Lady had to use the rest room. Even worse, after looking over her rash and suspecting it was Fifths Disease, the doctor decided to order a strep culture and urine test to rule out other options.
I knew right then we’d be there quite a while!
So, we headed to the lab and straight to the drinking fountain to fill her bladder again and make the second test a little easier.
Well, as soon as we were called and walked up with our cups the nurse said, “she didn’t just drink something did she?” and we were informed the throat culture couldn’t be taken for another 15 minutes because of it.
I’ll spare you the details of our multiple attempts to finish all the tests, but it was pretty humorous. In the end, she tested positive for strep and we finished out the antibiotics and were good to go.
Between caring for kids and a household, shopping and wrapping Christmas gifts, and keeping up with the busy season how does a mom even have the time to be sick?
It’s unrealistic to expect for moms to receive the care we give our own kiddos when they’re sick. The idea of taking as much time as it takes to rest and recover, isn’t really an option for moms. However, there are some things we can do to take care of ourselves and the ones we love.
It does not come easy to us moms. We try to do it all, and we gladly will give all our energy to our family. However, it’s vital that we ask for help, even in little ways.
When moms get sick there is usually a whole list of things we’re worried about. While you’re on the mend you need to be ok with letting things slide.
Prioritize that to-do list and find some things to cross off completely. If you don’t, you’re likely to get even further behind as you take longer to recover.
This is something so many of you recommended to me! While the kids were starting school and all the germs started flowing, I asked for recommendations for keeping school germs away.
Hands-down the most suggestions were for elderberry syrup or elderberry gummies.
I’ve been taking Vita Miracle Elderberry Gummies for over a week. They are basically a treat I look forward to each day because of the yummy raspberry flavor. Also, it’s just such an easy addition to our day, so it’s perfect for us moms.
Elderberry has been used for boosting immune support for centuries. These particular gummies have added Vitamin C and Zinc to further help with immune support and are non-GMO, vegetarian, gluten free and kosher certified.
You can get Vita Miracle Elderberry Gummies right on Amazon and they’ll get to you in no time with Amazon Prime ( which you can try free for 30 days )!
Not really, but it’s one of the most important things you can do to feel better. Sick moms need to place a high level of priority on sleep. It’s a non-negotiable.
This goes along with asking for help and letting less important things slide. When you have the time, take a rest, and don’t feel one bit bad about it.
Cooking is not fun when you’re a sick mom. For one thing, it takes so much energy to plan those meals let alone cook them. Next, being up on your feet and full of germs is not the best combo for preparing food.
This is a time when Crockpot meals are your friend. My go-tos are a Chicken Chili, Crockpot Lentil Tacos , and just about anything I can think to combine and throw in there.
It’s never easy, but being a mom mean being a fighter. You can get through it, but you don’t have to do it all! Remember your priorities. Taking care of yourself helps you better take care of the ones you love.

Unfortunately, enjoying a quiet, restful day in bed is not an option for most moms. So what’s a mom to do? Here are some tips to help you survive a mom sick day.
In some cases, the other parent may be able to stay home and help with the kids. But often this isn't a feasible option. “Don’t be too proud to call in reinforcements if necessary!” says Becky Baldridge. Ask friends and family to take the kids to school or help cook dinner. Most friends are willing to help, especially if you offer to return the favor in the future.
For a sick mom, feeding her family can be a huge challenge. Keep it simple by ordering take out, raiding the freezer or letting the kids eat cereal for dinner. “I’ve had my husband order, pay for and have pizza delivered from work because when I’m sick preparing meals is impossible. ” says Rodganna Avery, mom of three.
Many families limit the amount of screen time their children are allowed each day, but when mom is sick it’s okay to relax the rules. “I let them watch TV all day and I lay on the couch and sleep. I feel better the next day because I get rest.” says LouAnn Cunningham. Allowing extra TV or video game time helps to entertain the kids so mom can rest. Mother of six Chrissy Roussel says, “When you are sick, just focus on making sure they’re fed and changed. Let go of the ‘normal’ parenting rules for a few days”. It won’t hurt the kids to have one or two days of extra screen time, and they will probably enjoy it as well.
What do you do when TV time gets old? Build a fort, get out craft supplies or play with blocks. “I have a secret stash of toys that I only bring out when I’m sick.” says Jessi Cole, mom of three “Since they are rarely out, my kids think it’s a huge treat.” Try having the kids read a book aloud or put on a puppet show for you while you rest. When mom is sick, anything goes; the goal is to keep the kids entertained, but as quiet as possible throughout the day.
The last tip is one you can do in advance. Before you get the first hint of a runny nose or sore throat, prepare for when you do. Set some special toys and movies aside for your sick day, keep easy to prepare snacks and freezer meals on hand, and teach your kids to prepare simple meals like sandwiches or cereal so they can help themselves when needed.
As moms, we do so much for our families and when we aren’t feeling well, a smoothly run household can spiral out of control fast. It’s okay to let the house go and rely on others for a few days. If mom has time to rest, she should be back to her old self in no time.
