I came to DC on my own for a trip and I visited every museum I could within a week. And I was amazed. They were open to anyone to come in and explore.

I think that transformative experience at the Smithsonian changed my perception on how stories are being told and what stories are being told in a museum. I didn't necessarily see my story as a Latino Hispanic person growing up in Miami, the child of Cuban immigrants. I didn't see that story but I saw other stories and the possibility of telling those stories in a different way. And that really encouraged me. It opened my eyes to the possibility of my story being told that way.

When young people visit the museum, they'll feel included. They'll feel their stories are not being omitted from the narrative. They'll feel like they're part of the larger American history narrative

See America through the Latino experience in the first-ever exhibition presented by the National Museum of the American Latino. ¡Presente! A Latino History of the United States offers an introduction to the important ideas, moments, and people that shine a light on the many ways Latinas and Latinos shaped the nation.
Now open at the National Museum of American History, the Molina Family Latino Gallery tells U.S. history from the perspectives of the diverse Latinas and Latinos who lived it. The first exhibition will uncover hidden and forgotten stories, connect visitors to Latino culture, and lay the foundation for understanding how Latinas and Latinos inform and shape U.S. history.
The National Museum of the American Latino increases access to Latino art, history, and culture through public programs , educational materials , career and leadership development , and financial support . Since 2010, the Latino Curatorial Initiative has funded 20 positions for Latino curators, archivists and curatorial assistants across the Institution.
Future generations should see themselves reflected in our national story. Your gift to the National Museum of the American Latino ensures that U.S. history is told from the perspectives of the diverse Latinas and Latinos who lived it.
