Greenpoint Dog Log Blog: One Woman's Crusade Against Dog Shit
We got a nice clip of rain this afternoon, but as the Mister and I were having dinner at Casanova’s this evening the sun finally reemerged. The owner of Casanova’s went outside to take a look. I joined him.
He said that, in fact, he was not but— suggested that perhaps one could be seen to the west. I disagreed:
No, it will be over there (pointing east, towards our splendid waste water treatment facility).
I went around the corner and guess what?
I was right! I went inside, grabbed my camera and hauled ass to Provost Street . The proprietor of Casanova’s was quite amused by this. To wit, I replied:
If you look carefully, gentle readers, you will notice the faint trace of a second rainbow emanating from the “poop stack”. I gleefully advised the Mister of this discovery, observing:
It’s there because that’s where dreams come from!
Because of course, it is . Closing on a (downright uncanny) note of dreams, rainbows and the Shit Tits, today I completed my first (but definitely not last) Greenpoint-themed snow globe. I proudly present Super fun d Me!

As spotted this evening on Greenpoint Avenue. For those of you who are not familiar with Garden Spot geography, the pot of gold at the end of this here rainbow appears to be none other than the Newtown Creek Waste Water Treatment Facility ( AKA: the Shit Tits).
A person we’ll call “Y” writes on July 6, 2012:
Hey Heather! In response to the 4th of July sentinels, a/k/a the NYPD helicopters , I was chilling on our rooftop last night and lo and behold a VERY low flying NYPD sentinel was spied by mine eyes. This fella was extremely low. We are on a 4th floor walk up and he was parallel to the height of our building. There was also a lot of activity on the streets in the form of four-wheeled sentinels heading to the shit tits. But, the air-born sentinel was circling the area west of McGuinness, but eventually he was hovering over the shit tits. It seemed quite odd as the copter was so low I could have probably thrown one of our poorly formed tomatoes at it. Here is a shot. Sorry for it being rotated. The vantage point does not do the picture justice as the helicopter was literally 40 feet above the highest rooftop which is a mere 5 stories high.
I myself heard this myself. It was pretty jarring, to say the least. In regards to the increased police presence on July 4th, I have heard, but have yet to receive confirmation, that a police officer was shot. If/when I hear something from the 94th I will add it here. Otherwise (and closing with an interesting fact), the Shit Tits (as they are lovingly called hereabouts) are considered by the powers-that-be to be a viable terrorist target. While it is not my intent to revel in/encourage the apocalyptic, one has to admit Greenpoint being hit with a tsunami of shit is, well, interesting to say the least.

Pa Heather once told yours truly she had no ambition. I took issue with this at the time but in the cold, cruel clarity that is hindsight he was correct: I was lacking direction. This has since changed. I have found my happy place (that being Greenpoint, of course) and while living here I have discovered a manifold number of things which engage me. Among them: being the goodwill ambassador of and mascot for our beloved Waste Water Treatment Plant. More specifically: The Shit Tits. While this might not be everyone’s idea of “making it” in Greenpoint (or in New York City and at life for that matter) it is mine. Don’t shit on my dreams and I will not shit on yours.
I was not shit talking when I wrote my snow globe was progressing nicely. It is.
After no less than three attempts methinks I have it right this time around. The first prototype was simply too “busy”: too much shit in too little space. I realized a trifecta of turdiness was in order:

Tonight’s Town Hall meeting was contentious to say the very least.* So much so yours truly saw fit to make a stop on the way home for some medicinal spirits. Needless to say I was delighted to find these nice, soothing images in my inbox when I arrived home. Great job, guys!

Yesterday yours truly had a rock star moment. Well, not exactly — the other party involved, a very polite French couple, did not know who they were talking to: none other than the cheerleader of/unofficial spokeswoman for our beloved Shit Tits ! Our conversation kicked as follows:
Excuse me, do you live around here?
Do you know of a futuristic park around here?
She asked. I gave the matter some thought and asked:
Oh, you mean the DEP Newtown Creek Nature Walk as seen in Time Out New York and lauded by the Village Voice !
She replied. I then proceeded to enthusiastically give her and hers directions to this Greenpoint landmark. They didn’t seem to comprehend what I was telling them and headed in the opposite direction— but that’s not really the point here. Rather, I Greenpointer, relished the opportunity to be (once again) an ambassador for our locality’s best known, um, assets . More importantly it served as a reminder that I have not visited “the gals” in a while. This morning I did. Follows are a few highlights. Enjoy!
