Shibari Breast Bondage

* Suspension bondage is an advanced topic and should not be attempted without a firm understanding of vertical rope work and rope bondage in general.

a. Pull the emerging bight and work the knot tight around it while keeping the tails from pulling through, producing an effective slippery knot. If using a shorter rope, this is a good point to tie off and pick up with another length.

b. Follow through and pull the tails completely through the knot and set it. Not slippery, but still easy to untie, and allows you to continue with the same length.

7. From the tie off in the back, this support runs up and over the shoulder, then down to the sternum. The classic tie would follow with a simple turn then back up over the opposite shoulder to tie off in the back. With tension set to lift the breasts and hold the lower ropes safely in place, this would be a perfectly effective tie.

8. However in this case I wanted a little more intensity, and opted to cinch the torso wraps together, pinching the breasts.

9. My variation, although ultimately asymmetrical, is effective and secure.

10. Setting this simple knot pulls the bindings together and quickly ramps things up for Gwen. Breasts bound in this manner quickly become very sensitive, and may need adjustment or relief in short order.

11. Lead the tails over the opposite shoulder and to the mid back to begin the tie off with a simple turn under all the binds. Set tension to lift the breasts.

12. When building up the knot work here, keep in mind any future positions that the subject might endure. Lying on her back may not be an option if a big ball of knots results over the spine.

13. I've kept things low profile in this instance. Although I plan on continuing with this same piece of rope, there is no reason why shorter lengths cannot be used to bring us to this point.

14. With the shinju and crotchrope in place, a few options that may add some dynamics to the session come to mind.

15. Tying layers together can affect the posture and demeanor of the subject. Here, I've decided to up the intensity of the crotchrope and add an arch to Gwen's back, forcing a nice presentation of breasts and ass.

16. Tied off, this position allows freedom of movement, but definately heightens Gwen's awareness of her situation.

17. Or, from the same position, kote shibari (binding behind) is a logical progression for our session. This classic position relies on controlling the elbows to restrain. In fact, the wrist wraps serve more to hold the arms at an appropriate height on the back than to immobilize, and need not be bound tightly.

Flexibility can be an issue here. The shoulders, being the intricate joint that they are, require due consideration when determining an appropriate height and tension. Communication here is vital.

18. Again, combining layers is a preferred tactic. Using the tails left from the shinju, or by using another length and attaching to the existing shinju, the wrists are bound in place at mid back.

Shown here, the rope is wrapped twice around the wrists, turned around itself, and fed under the binds.

19. A slipped square knot on a coil is finished here to tie off. A nice feature of this arrangement is that the wrists remain easily released without undoing other layers of rope.

21. Tyed off, decorative windings around the arm binds serve in function by snugly cinching the wraps.

22. From the front, Gwen presents a nicely bound package.

Shinju, literally translated as 'pearls', is an important primary layer. Properly applied, the torso wraps of the shinju present a wide range of possibilities, from sensually sensitizing the breasts and nipples through vascular restriction, to providing a stable harness from which to move to a full suspension*.

The ropes lie over the rib cage and shoulders, lifting and pinching the breasts. The tie is held in place and intensified with cinching ties to the sternum area and / or sides.

This tie need not be overly tight to be effective! As with the crotchrope, the tension of this layer is best adjusted with cinches rather than trying to snug it down tightly from the start. Of note is that this tie can severely restrict the rib cage and the breathing pattern of the subject. Care should be taken to ensure a safe, comfortable setting, and watch for signs of panic or distress. As with all bondage, be sure to inquire about any respiratory or other conditions and keep inhalers and such at arms reach.

Session 2 starts with sassy Gwen wearing her beloved crotchrope, similar to the one applied in session 1 .

A series of knots built up through the crotch provide a little extra umpf, while splitting the rope at the anal cleft relieves pressure on the tail bone and base of the spine.

Before beginning, it's a good idea to run your hands over the subject's torso to familiarize yourself with their ribcage. The shinju should fall on the rib cage, capturing the breasts, and not be allowed to slip under the ribs or near the abdomen.

1. Starting with a bight at the center of a 6 fathom rope (a single fathom is apx. equal to the distance between an average person's outstretched fingertips, or 6 feet), the first wrap lies on the torso just under the breasts, and is bought together at mid back as shown. Pull the standing part of the rope through the bight, creating the first larks head, and wrap the rope back in the opposite direction.

2. Pulling the rope through the second loop created in step 1 gives us the familiar opposing larks head pattern.

Shown here are the beginnings of nearly the same knot used in the crotchrope. Tying off here is one option, or the knot can be eliminated, leaving a more low profile binding, as below.

3. Here I've opted to continue with a simple turn of the rope instead of tying off. This wrap lies over the top of the breasts and meets in the back.

4. The rope is looped under itself and adjusted for overall tension. Running a couple of fingers between the ropes and the skin provide a good gauge for adjustment. Not too tight. Cinches can be used later to increase intensity and pressure if needed.

Here I have made a singe wrap. One could just as easily return around the torso in the opposite direction again, laying another wrap before proceeding.

5. This tie off captures and secures all the bindings in one knot.

Holding tension with the left hand, the right creates a bend a foot or so down the rope, passes it over and down, then back up under the wraps. This bight emerges through the loop created (shown here held open by the left hand).

The knot is set one of two ways, depending on (among other things) what length rope you are working with:

With practice, either is a fast and effective means of securing the bindings. In this case I pull the tails completely through and continue the binding with the same rope.

Note that to varying degrees, the brachial bundle is often compressed in this movement, pinching off nerves and blood supply (and return) to the arms and hands. Make mental note of this point in the session, and start your 'bondage clock' if the binds are tight. Pay attention to circulatory and nerve compression warning signs like circulation, sensation, and movement, and don't become discouraged if multiple adjustments are needed.

Chest Harnesses

An easy-to-follow step-by-step guide to tying people. Learn how to tie Shibari Chest Harnesses starting from the most basic ones all the way to advanced and decorative ties.

This harness is best when tied on men because the lack of curves on their chest helps keep the ropes flat.

A simple chest harness to jump-start your imagination

This is very similar to the Bikini Harness, except you can use this tie for suspensions because, unlike the Bikini Harness, all the sections are locked

Immobilize your partner's arms and make a beautiful chest harness in the process.

A simple and elegant way to immobilize your partner's hands

Complete the half diamond and get full points!

A decorative and rope-consuming way to finish a diamond chest harness.

A great introductory tie to the chain-loop technique.

Great to attach ropes that are in a T shape

Great to attach ropes that are perpendicular to each other

A basic chest harness that will serve as a canvas for all kinds of decorative endings.

Start with a Gote Shibari and add a third rope in order to tie this decorative ending.

Start with a Gote Shibari, but instead of tying the rope twice around your partner's upper chest, go three times around. This will give you enough horizontal ropes to weave the rope through and create weaved flowers as a decorative twist to the simple chest harness.

We've already gone over how to tie the Star Harness, in this lesson, we will incorporate the immobilization of the arms behind the back.

Hishi means diamond in Japanese. Karada means full body. So basically, this is a full body(torso) diamond harness. The "Hishi" technique is widely used in many different ties. This is its most basic application, and a beautiful one.

This harness is one of my favorites. You start out with placing a slip-knot around your partner's neck. I know this goes against all safety rules, but you will make it safe in no time. It's also different from other ties we have gone over because you do not start by folding the rope in half. All in all, it's a great way to shake things up.

Even if you are not insane you can wear a straitjacket. In this case, by bringing Shibari into the mix, it might even be fun...

This is not a commonly used chest harness but I find it contours the breasts nicely. Hope we make it a Shibari mainstream!

This is a large diamond version of our favorite hishi karada. Enjoy!

Feeling fancy tonight? Add a bit of spice to your outfit with Shibari fashion. This loop-chain dress is easy to tie and quick to get off. It contours the body's curves beautifully.

Welcome to Shibari 101, your chance to learn the building blocks of Japanese rope bondage! If you missed them, check out shibari’s history, rope basics and safety , and brush up on the foundational single- and double-column ties .
In shibari, a chest harness can stand alone or act as a base to secure other ties. This version is simple, but you can get more complicated and decorative with it once you learn it.
First, position the bight at the center of your bottom’s back, and wrap the rope once around your bottom below the chest and draw the working ends through the bight. Make sure the part that crosses over is in the middle of the back on their spine. The ropes should be snug, but not so snug your bottom can’t breathe.
Bring the working ends back around the front of their body again, going in the opposite direction. If you don’t switch directions the rope won’t stay tight and will fall off the body. When you get back to the center of the back again, pull the working ends up through the loop you just created on the opposite side of where you pulled the rope from — the side with the doubled-over rope. Make sure the ropes are not crossed and line up neatly.
Reverse direction again and bring the working ends around the body one more time, this time above the chest. Wrap the working ends underneath the rope stem (in this case, the section of rope that goes vertical along the spine).
Reverse direction around the body one last time, making sure your ropes are above the previous wrap of ropes and lay flat and neat. Bring the working ends through the loop created by reversing direction — the side with the doubled-over rope.
Take the working ends and bring them over the shoulder to the front of your bottom, and bring them over the top ropes in front then under the bottom ropes. Pinch the bottom ropes together so they don’t lose their shape while you reverse direction with the working ends. Bring them back up and under the second top ropes. You’ll probably need to extend the rope at some point here (see the bottom of the page.) Make sure the knot is in a comfortable place for the bottom. You can move the knot a bit down the first rope if not.
Bring the working ends over the other shoulder and around to the back of your bottom. Pass them over the top right ropes, and up diagonally between the top left ropes and the left shoulder rope, as shown.
Bring the working ends over both shoulder ropes, and under the right top ropes.
Make a half hitch on the stem. A half hitch is made by making a loop in the working ends, bringing the ropes over the stem, behind the stem, and back through the loop. Pull to tighten. You can wrap your excess rope around the stem, and/or weave it up the shoulder ropes in a figure-eight weave, or leave the rope length to tie to an additional arm or leg tie, or tie it to a hardpoint (not for suspension).
Congratulations, you’ve made a basic shibari chest harness!
You’ll need to extend rope when you run out. This is one of several ways to do this.
With your second rope, make a loop with your hand by putting your hand inside the bight, grasping the ropes, and pulling the bight over your hand. You’ll have a loop, which is called a lark’s head knot.
Put the first rope’s ends into the lark’s head and tighten. If your ropes have knots at the end, you can bring the lark’s head knot down to the knots and stop here. If you have whipped ends, or you feel like it, continue to the next step.
Make sure the lark’s head is not at the very end of your first rope, and there’s about 5″/12cm of ends left. Bring both sides of the first rope together and roll the knot up.
That’s it! Next week, you’ll learn about leg ties.

I’m loving this series – thank you!
Are there any harness designs for anxiety? I’m wanting to learn some for my wife when she starts getting stressed and anxious.
I especially like the gifs that are clear and rarely used in the other online demos of basics! Useful for some on-the-go revision.
Could this harness take some modifications that would help it be weight-bearing?
Yes you can suspend with modifications to a chest harness. I’d add another set of ropes over the shoulder and perhaps some more on the chest or sides for some better distribution of weight, it would hurt a whole lot as is and might do damage to the ribs. I’d google shinju for suspension to get some ideas. Please be careful with suspension if you’re just beginning, and do it with someone who has experience. :)
these are the best bdsm knot tying instructions on the internet. they are clearly described and as at least one other comment stated, the gifs are great. thank you!
