SharkQuakifornia is a California earthquake and shark-incident map. It does not require an account and does not show ads.

What we collect

Nothing is uploaded to us. There is no SharkQuakifornia server that receives your identity, contacts, photos, or location.

  • Home pin (optional). If you tap “Use my current location,” the device GPS is used once to set a map pin. Coordinates are stored only in on-device settings (Apple UserDefaults). They are not sent to us. You can change or reset the pin anytime.
  • Settings. Notification bands, quiet hours, poll interval, and similar preferences stay on the device.
What the app fetches

The app downloads public scientific data over HTTPS:

  • U.S. Geological Survey earthquake catalog (ComCat)
  • California Department of Fish and Wildlife / GSAF shark-incident records
  • Southern California Earthquake Data Center station waveforms when you tap a station
  • Apple MapKit map tiles

Those providers see a normal network request (IP address, time, user-agent), the same as opening their websites. We do not attach your name or home pin to those requests.

Tracking and advertising

We do not track you. We do not sell or share personal data. We do not use analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, or third-party crash reporters.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, local alerts can describe new California earthquakes while the app is open. Notification permission is optional.

Children

The app is a general-audience reference tool. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the effective date above will be updated.

This app is not earthquake early warning and is not a substitute for official emergency alerts.
