First it was Brookside, followed by EastEnders, Emmerdale and most recently Coronation Street - now Shameless is the latest long-running UK TV show to feature a lesbian sex scene.
The Manchester-based comedy drama is putting Tina Malone - who plays estate battleaxe Mimi Maguire - between the sheets with her new neighbour Avril Powell, played by former Bodies star Karen Bryson.
Tina, 47, who also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2009, however said despite the storyline being a bit of a shock, she was looking forward to showing off her new body, having lost over six stone after having a gastric band fitted.

She told The People newspaper: 'Put it this way, it came as a bit of a shock. Mimi has had her fair share of sexual encounters, including one with a 14-year-old boy she thought was 18.
'But she has never gone to bed with another woman. However, it’s clear that she relishes the opportunity this time around. Like a lot of Shameless, the sex between the two women is pretty full on.'
She added: 'I may not look like a hippo or a pig anymore – and hopefully the fans tuning in to my sex scenes won’t be revolted by the sight of my body – but I’m never going to look like Sharon Stone either.'

Liverpudlian Tina has got a new lease of life since marrying personal trainer Paul Chase, 28, in the summer and then getting down to a size 12.
She even revealed that she was going to try for a baby with her new husband.
Tina explained: 'Losing all that weight was never about me trying to boost my confidence and make me feel better about myself or about the scenes I was going to be filming.
'I lost weight for me, nobody else, I wanted to get myself in as good a shape as possible in the hope that I could become a mum again.
'Having another baby at 47, would take me into dreamland, and God willing, it will happen.'
She already has a 30-year-old daughter, Danielle.
Series eight of Shameless starts on 10 January on Channel 4 at 10pm.
