Poynette police have recommended charges against two men and a woman accused of stealing from a relative, in one case for drug money, and in a second, for drugs directly. On June 6 police located Samantha Sonnenberg of Poynette, a year-old relative, who reportedly admitted to taking the things from the house. Sonnenberg told officers, according to court documents, that she, with Jesus Mata, 24, of Poynette, went into the house on May 27 and took the golf clubs, pool cues and laptop. The items were then pawned and they used the cash to buy heroin, she said. The next day she said the two of them went back, with Steven West, 24, of Poynette, and stole the TV from off the wall. Sonnenberg told the officer that Mata was asleep during the 15 to 20 minute operation of removing the TV, but knew what was happening. In Columbia County Circuit Court on Thursday, Sonnenberg was charged with two counts of misdemeanor theft and two counts of felony bail jumping. A few minutes later Mata was charged with two counts of misdemeanor theft and one count of misdemeanor bail jumping. West has been charged with one count of misdemeanor theft, but has not been scheduled for an initial appearance in court.
