You can now download all the models you want, they are also still up on sfmlab.com as well if your scared of them disappearing once more.
Any reason as to why they are back? They were DMCA'd before, what has changed?
Blizzard has been white listing authors of the models. Apparently it wasn't Blizzard issuing the DMCA's but some 3rd party company, its been known to happen before with other models.
Nothing. It's just that the controls on these things aren't very tight.
We never left ;p The nude models aren't kept on steam workshop and weren't taken down at all.

What's the easiest way to convert these into an .stl or other simple model file? I don't into sfm, but my 3D printer yearns to print Overwatch miniatures.
Maybe you already know this, but it's not just a file conversion: 3-d printing models need to be "closed manifolds", a single continuous surface with a clear inside and outside. (Imagine filling them with water: they can't leak.) Game models don't: they're often a bunch of intersecting surfaces with edges. Take, for example, the glowing part of Mercy's wings: they've got no thickness to them, there's no inside. You can fix this problem by by basically "shrink-wrapping" a model, but often manual intervention is needed.
Another problem is that to be printed, the model needs to be a single piece. But that's not always the case for a game model. Taking Mercy as an example again, the blades of her caduceus staff hang in space , not actually connected to the rest of the weapon. You can add little posts to connect these pieces to the rest so they don't fall off, but again, it's a manual process.
+1 to this. Would love to print me a little D.va or Bastion, or some of those awesome weapons. Right now the only .stl's I've found for the weapons has been Tracer's pistol and D.va's light gun. That's a good start and all, but I want to print me an armory worth!
I've never wanted a 3D printer until this moment.
Ok, I've got an answer, mostly: Crowbar ( http://steamcommunity.com/groups/CrowbarTool ) is a program that decompiles sfm models into all their various pieces, the .qc file being the "main" file. Then make sure whatever 3D modeling program you have has whatever plugins it needs to open said file, and you've got a poseable thing. Now since all I know about 3d modeling is TinkerCAD, I don't know the first thing about skeletons and such. I'll have to bang my head against this a little longer to get anything besides "arms to the side, legs shoulder-width apart." More as the situation develops (if it does).
