The Sex Lives of College Girls are back, and they're growing up.
The second season of the HBO series will premiere in November, co-creator Justin Noble revealed Sept. 9, and will pick up right after the girls' Thanksgiving breaks and take them through to the end of their first year in college. Plus, it'll be a particularly snowy winter at Essex College, which Noble said he and co-creator Mindy Kaling are especially pumped to feature in the sophomore season.
"We're going to be spending a lot of time in something that Mindy and I were really excited to write to and never really got to creatively in season one, which is an East Coast winter," Noble tells Entertainment Weekly . "Because that was a big part of both of our college experiences going to school in the Northeast, where the show is set. A lot of coats, a lot of snow. So we'll be getting some of that."
Plus, Noble has a sneak peek at what we can expect out of the girls' season two arcs: Leighton ( Renée Rapp ) will be continuing her coming-out journey as Noble says she "continues to grow into that confidence," while Whitney ( Alyah Chanelle Scott ) will dive into her relationship with Canaan ( Christopher Meyer ) as the soccer season ends.
And, in a twist, party-girl Bela ( Amrit Kaur ) might not be continuing her old season one ways.
"I think Bela might be ready to enter into a relationship," Noble says. "Bela is a stand-in for a lot of people in their college experience, which is that she doesn't really know what she wants. And I think depending on the day of the week, she might think that she's ready to be in a relationship with someone, or she might still be in that flavor-of-the-week fun party vibe where she just wants to meet new people all the time and not be pinned down.
"That's a journey that we could see Bela going through this season, kind of figuring out, where is she at?" he continues. "Is she ready to date, for the first time in her life probably?"
Meanwhile, Kimberly ( Pauline Chalamet ) is going to have to figure out how she'll pay for college after losing her job—without season one heartthrob Nico ( Gavin Leatherwood ) there to support her.
"There's a lot of people in Kimberly's position who are trying to stay at schools that they want to be at," he says. "So Kimberly is going to be dealing with that quite a bit, figuring out how to fix her problem. That is quite a lot of money that a student has to find to be able to stay at a school that was her dream. So that is going to be taking up a whole lot of her mental capacity."
Season one of The Sex Lives of College Girls is streaming now on HBO Max.

Refreshed from eating home-cooked meals and doing all that stacked up laundry, roommates Kimberly, Whitney, Bela, and Leighton are finally returning to our screens post-Thanksgiving break. Mark your calendars, as The Sex Lives Of College Girls is set to arrive back at HBO Max with a snowy, romp-filled second season this November, according to Entertainment Weekly .
Since the coming-of-age comedy introduced us to the four Essex College roomies and their newfound freedom away from their parents last year , we’ve been waiting to see what Mindy Kaling and team have up their sleeves for the anticipated second season. You can expect to see plenty of coat fashion, as Kaling and co-creator Justin Noble are writing from their New England winter experiences at Dartmouth and Yale for future episodes. In a sneak peek image, the four leads are shown bundled up in classic, oversized puffer jackets as snow falls around them.
While the forecast for Essex College may be switching up, so are Whitney, Bela, Leighton, and Kimberly’s lives after making it out the other side of midterms.
Now in a relationship with Canaan (played by Christopher Meyer), Whitney’s (Alyah Chanelle) main hardship will be dealing with her new free time while in the off-season of soccer. “ It was such a dominating presence in her life,” Noble says to Entertainment Weekly . “What do you do when a void that big enters your schedule when you used to fill it with something so specific and now that’s gone?”
After coming out to Kimberly in the big-tearjerker scene from the finale, Leighton’s (Reneé Rapp) journey will continue through season two as she finds confidence in being open about her sexuality. “We will be continuing a lot of Leighton’s journey in coming out,” says Noble. He continued, “The last thing we would want to ever do is show a world where someone doesn’t own up to their own truth and share that with other people.”

As for Bela (Amrit Kaur), who ended season one quitting humor magazine Catullan with a hint that she may start her own all-girls comedy space, Noble notes that her character might be ready to get in a relationship. With the enemies-to-lovers set-up of comedy rival Eric in the season one finale, it seems likely we’ll be seeing their relationship unfold in the new episodes.
For Kimberly (Pauline Chalamet), the cliffhanger of season one that revealed her financial aid was being taken away due to cheating will have a major impact on her storyline. “That is quite a lot of money that a student has to find to be able to stay at a school that was her dream,” says Noble. “So that is going to be taking up a whole lot of her mental capacity.”

TV News The Sex Lives of College Girls Season 2 Premiere Set at HBO Max

HBO Max will welcome viewers back to Essex this November.

That's right, we're closing in on the debut of The Sex Lives of College Girls Season 2!

An exact date has not been confirmed, but at least we know it's coming this year.

"Season 1 ends kind of in the amorphous fall still," co-creator Justin Noble of when the second season will pick up.

"We haven't really gone too far from the day that they first arrived at Essex, and that's just because we think so much of the show is about reinvention and the ways that these girls change in the first couple weeks that they go to a new place away from their parents," Noble continues.

"So we will pick up right after Thanksgiving break of their first year in college. And then this season will take us through the end of that first year."

Many TV shows set in educational establishments typically pick up with a jump in time, but it's nice to know that the action will pick up relatively soon after the first season finale.

Kimberly (Pauline Chalamet), Whitney (Alyah Chanelle Scott), Leighton (Reneé Rapp), and Bela (Amrit Kaur) are all confirmed to return.

Season 1 star Gavin Leatherwood revealed earlier this year that his time on the show was over.

He continued, saying, "It was such an incredible experience. I think [co-creator] Mindy [Kaling] is brilliant and the cast, everyone's lovely."

"But with so many amazing opportunities out there, we want to keep spreading our wings and leading ourselves to other projects so that's the move."

The Sex Lives of College Girls launched on HBO Max last fall, with the series drawing record ratings for a comedy on the relatively new streaming service.

“Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble have created and written a show that is full of heart, female friendships, and awkward naked parties” said Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content, HBO Max when the renewal was announced.

“We are delighted that this comic, honest portrayal of the college condition has resonated for everyone, whether they had sex in college or not."

"We can’t wait to see where these uniquely complex yet relatable characters will go next.”

What are your thoughts on the series returning in two months?

As they explore and experience new adventures, viewers are tagging along to vicariously live through their experiences.
