Born on March 1, 1946 as Svetlana Gurdin, she is an American actress and movie producer, she is better known as Lana Wood. Her parents were Russian immigrants who had left Russia as child refugees with their parents after the Russian Civil War, and they grew up on the distant land from their home country.
Her father’s family left Vladivostok and settled in Vancouver, British Columbia, but, later moved to San Francisco. Upon the marriage of Nikolai and Maria (her parents), her mother brought her daughter Olga to the family.

In the early stages of her career, Wood usually played roles in the movies where Natalie appeared. In the 1960s, her own career got going and she appeared on the short-duration drama series The Long, Hot Summer, and bagged the role of Sandy Webber on the soap series Peyton Place. She played the role from 1966-67.
In the year 1970, Wood was contacted by Hugh Hefner who asked her to pose for Playboy and she agreed. The Playboy pictures were published in the April 1971 issue alongside Wood’s poetry. She was cast as Plenty O’Toole, a Bond girl in the James Bond film Diamonds Are Forever (1971).
Wood acted in over 20 other movies and has more than 300 TV series appearances to her credit such as The Fugitive, Bonanza, Mission: Impossible, Police Story, Starsky & Hutch, Nero Wolfe, Fantasy Island, and Capitol.
After she appeared in the horror movie Satan’s Mistress (1982), she announced her retirement from acting, and concentrated on a career as a producer, but, she later made a comeback to acting and appeared in various low-budget films since 2008.
Lana plays a role in the Steve Allen book Meg: Hell’s Aquarium (2009). Wood has also written a memoir, Natalie, A Memoir By Her Sister (1984). Wood has been married on five occasions.
Her first marriage was with Jack Wrather Jr in 1962 which was annulled when she was 16 years of age. She married Karl Brent in 1965 and divorced in 1966. She then married Stephen Oliver in 1967 and divorced him later.
She was married to Richard Smedley from 1973 to 1975 and had a child Evan Taylor Smedley Maldonado (August 11, 1974-July 18, 2017) by whom she has three grandchildren. Her last marriage was with Allan G. Balter in 1978 and it ended in 1981.
