Eid ul Adha is the biggest event of muslims.It is also called Festival of the Sacrifice.
In islamic lunar calendar it will falls on the 10th of Dhu al-Hijjah.
In the international (Gregorian) calendar, the dates vary from year to year shifting approximately 11 days earlier each year.
Eid ul Adha is a festival celebrated among Muslims all over the world in remembrance of the sacrifice that Prophet Ibrahim (AS) made out of his strong faith in Allah. Ibrahim (AS) showed a willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail (AS) but his son was replaced with a lamb by Allah .
Allah was so pleased with Ibrahim’s (AS) submission to Him that He made this demonstration of sacrifice and faith a permanent part of a Muslim’s life.
During the festival, families that can afford to sacrifice a ritually acceptable animal (sheep, goat, camel, or cow) do so and then divide the flesh equally among themselves, the poor, and friends and neighbours. Eid al-Adha is also a time for visiting with friends and family and for exchanging gifts.
Depending on the country, the celebrations of Eid-ul-Adha can last anywhere between two and four days. The act of Qurbani (sacrifice) is carried out following the Eid Salaah (Eid Prayers), which are performed in congregation at the nearest Mosque on the morning of Eid.
Traditionally, the day is spent celebrating with family, friends and loved ones, often wearing new or best attire and the giving of gifts.
