A teacher from Statesville who was arrested on suspicion of child sex crimes is now facing additional charges after investigators learned that the juvenile victim went to the teacher’s home nine times after her original arrest in August.
According to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, Elizabeth Suzanne Bailey is now being held on an $800,000 secured bond after new charges were filed last Friday.
Channel 9 reported in early August when Bailey, 36, was arrested for felony statutory sex offense with a child under 15. Investigators told Channel 9 that they got information from a family member of the victim about the alleged sexual relationship, and after searching through Bailey’s “digital and social media communications,” she was charged.
After Bailey’s original arrest, she was charged and placed under house arrest with electronic monitoring. Part of her original bond release conditions stated that she had to stay away from the juvenile victim in the case.
According to the sheriff’s office, investigators learned that “the juvenile victim had been at Bailey’s residence on nine occasions since her original arrest on Aug. 1, 2022.”
The sheriff’s office says 27 new charges were filed against Bailey on Friday. She was arrested at her home and booked into custody in the Iredell County Detention Center. She’s facing nine counts of misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor, nine counts of felony intimidating or interfering with a state witness, and nine counts of felony violation of pre-trial release conditions.
School officials said Bailey worked at Northview Academy, formerly known as Pressly Alternative School. She was first employed with the Iredell-Statesville School District in February 2010 as an assistant. She most recently worked as a science teacher.
Iredell-Statesville Schools said Bailey has been suspended with pay pending the investigation by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

The Republican candidate for Illinois governor, Darren Bailey, on Tuesday promised to restore the death penalty and repeal a wide-ranging criminal justice overhaul that will eliminate cash bail, following a Labor Day weekend during which 11 people were killed in Chicago. The state senator from Xenia met privately in Springfield with county sheriffs from around Illinois and emerged with criticism for Gov. J.B. Pritzker and the so-called SAFE-T Act approved last year, which starting next year will end bail for many nonviolent crimes that had been dubbed a “penalty on poverty" by critics. Bailey said he would restore capital punishment, abolished in Illinois in 2011, for people who murder police officers.
Jeremie Hoyt, 42, of Davenport, N.Y. was handed a 25-year federal prison sentence for sexually exploiting a child and distributing child pornography.
The girl’s body was found on the side of a county road, officials said.

A Statesville teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a student has been charged with violating the terms of her release and seeing that same student while she was on house arrest.
Elizabeth Suzanne Bailey, 36, was charged last month with several child sex abuse crimes including felony statutory rape of a person who is 15 years of age or younger, indecent liberties with a minor and sexual activity with a student.
She was given a $75,000 bond and placed on house arrest with electronic monitoring, according to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office announced on Wednesday that Bailey had invited the alleged victim over to her home nine times since her arrest on Aug. 1, which was a direct violation of her the terms of her release.
She was arrested again on Friday and was slapped with even more charges, including nine counts of felony intimidating or interfering with a state witness. This time, she was given a $800,000 secured bond.

Families are leaving this state to protect their transgender children 03:46
The lawsuit was brought by the American Civil Liberties Union, the ACLU of Oklahoma and the LGBTQ legal advocacy group, Lambda Legal, on behalf of the three students. They argue that the law, which went into effect earlier this year, violates the students' constitutional rights and Title IX, a federal law that prohibits sex discrimination at federally funded schools.
"SB 615 deprives Plaintiffs and students who are transgender like them of their rights to equal dignity, liberty, and autonomy by branding them as second-class citizens," the 42-page lawsuit reads. "Defendants thus have denied and continue to deny Plaintiffs equal protection of the laws in violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the (Constitution's) Fourteenth Amendment."
The law applies to students in pre-K through 12th grade at public and public charter schools in the state. Transgender students who decline to use the restroom required under the measure would have to use "a sing
