A chimpanzee named Mahale was reunited with her newborn at the Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita, Kansas.
A momma chimpanzee and her newborn baby had a tearful reunion at the Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita, Kansas, after being separated for nearly two days following complications from delivery.
The chimpanzee , named Mahale, underwent an emergency C-section Nov. 15, and her baby, Kucheza — "play" in Swahili — was placed in the zoo's veterinary hospital by animal care staff. Mom and baby were kept apart for nearly two days before they were reunited. 
Footage recorded by the Sedgwick County Zoo shows the moment mom was able to hold her baby for the first time.
In the video, which was posted to the zoo's Facebook page , Mahale is seen entering an enclosure where zookeepers had placed Kucheza, who was swaddled in blankets.

At first, Mahale doesn't appear to recognize what's in the blankets. She appears to peer for a closer look when a tiny hand stretches out toward her.
Immediately, Mahale snatches her baby into a tight embrace.
Zoo staff can be heard in the background starting to cry as they admire mom's love for her baby .
"It's one of the most powerful things I’ve ever seen. She knows it’s her baby laying there. The baby is being very still. She’s looking at it like, ‘What’s going on?’ And once he moves, you see the relief and the love and just, oh my gosh, it’s just amazing. As a mom myself, it’s just, oh my gosh," the zoo's communications director, Jennica King, told FOX TV Stations.

The zoo explained on Facebook that Kucheza was born via C-section because of a complication during birth. The baby chimp had trouble getting oxygen and was hospitalized for treatment before making a quick recovery. 
Once zoo doctors gave the green light, Kucheza was returned to the chimpanzee enclosure where Mahale could view him through a mesh screen. They were reunited once zookeepers felt it was safe to do so, according to KTVU-TV . 
Mahale and Kucheza are now "doing great," according to the zoo's recent Facebook posts.

Nicki Minaj ‘s husband Kenneth Petty is taking legal action against New York prosecutors for allegedly unlawfully registering him as a sex offender. Petty filed legal documents to challenge his status , reports AllHipHop.com. In 1995, Petty was convicted of attempted rape in the first degree for assaulting Jennifer Hough in 1994 in New York. As previously noted, he was 15 at the time and the victim was 16. He served four years in prison and was ordered to register as a sex offender upon moving out of the state.
The outlet obtained documents revealing that in Petty’s battle against the state, oral arguments would be set for Jan. 6, 2023. He insists he had no knowledge about a 2004 hearing nor was he properly notified. However, prosecutors denied his claims and are seeking to have the case dismissed.
“Contrary to Plaintiff’s allegations, he received notice and was afforded all the process due to him after participating in his 2004 SORA hearing with his counsel,” they said. “The court-certified transcript of this hearing attached as Exhibit A to Defendant’s Memorandum of Law in Support of Defendants’ Motion to Dismiss is both an official judicial record and integral to Plaintiff’s complaint, and thus can be considered on this motion, and it ends the case.” Prosecutors added: “Plaintiff acknowledged his identity on the record, and his counsel stated that Plaintiff did not contest his designation as a level 2 sex offender.”
In his rebuttal, Petty alleges someone falsified his signature on the notice because he was incarcerated at the time. He also claims it was sent to an address where he did not live.
“Plaintiff’s counsel’s implication that this official judicial transcript is a forgery because Plaintiff’s incarceration records may show that Plaintiff was incarcerated at the time in various New York state correctional facilities and purportedly thus could not have attended the SORA hearing is nothing short of absurd,” prosecutors noted. “As the Court is well aware, incarcerated individuals are constantly being brought to court from prison for appearances in their cases.”
They add, “The state courts similarly routinely require the production of incarcerated individuals for court appearances, such as the SORA hearing at issue.”
Prosecutors also plan to argue that Petty has no case because the case’s statute of limitations have run out.
“Although Plaintiff admits to his felony conviction for Attempted Rape in the First Degree in State Court, he still alleges that he was unaware of his sex offender status and his risk level redetermination until he was arrested in March 2020 out-of-state for failure to register [as a sex offender],” prosecutors continued. “From 2013 through March 2020, Plaintiff essentially alleges he was unaware of the collateral consequences of his felony sex crime conviction.”
It continues, “Plaintiff’s claims are meritless and the SORA hearing transcript demonstrates that Plaintiff is fourteen years late in pursuing this lawsuit. The statute of limitations has run and Plaintiff’s claims should be dismissed.”
Petty wed Minaj in 2019, and the two welcomed their first son “Papa Bear” in September 2020. When the couple moved from New York to California, the new dad failed to register as a sex offender, which led to his arrest by U.S. Marshals in March 2020. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office dropped its case against him. But in federal court, he was sentenced to three years of probation and a year of home detention in July of this year.

Many in the industry have expressed concern over Minaj’s marriage and Petty’s criminal history, out of concern over the latter tainting her accomplished career. In September 2021, Hough appeared on “The Real” to speak out about the lawsuit she filed against Minaj and Petty for humiliation. The 44-year-old accused the pair of harassing her. She alleges they offered her $20,000 to recant her story. The case against Minaj was dropped earlier this year in January, but Petty’s is still reportedly pending.

The Senate has voted to advance a bill that would protect same-sex and interracial marriages under federal law, setting the legislation on a path to final passage.

The Respect for Marriage Act would not force states to issue same-sex marriage licenses, but would require them to recognize same-sex marriages performed elsewhere. It also would recognize these marriages under federal law for the consideration of benefits like Medicare and Social Security.
All 50 Democrats and 12 Republicans voted to advance the bill , clearing a 60-vote threshold.
The push to codify marriage rights comes in the wake of this summer's Supreme Court opinion that reversed Roe v. Wade and potentially called other decisions into question. In his concurring opinion, Justice Clarence Thomas noted that the landmark 2015 case that legalized same-sex marriage, Obergefell v. Hodges , rests on the same legal principles that underscored Roe . No case challenging the right to marry has yet made it to the Supreme Court, but advocates feared Thomas was setting the stage for Obergefell 's reversal.
"The Supreme Court should not be in a position to undermine the stability of families with a stroke of a pen," Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., said on the Senate floor. Baldwin, the first openly gay member of the Senate, was a sponsor of the bill.
"This will give millions of loving couples the certainty, the dignity and the respect that they need and that they deserve," she said.
The House passed a version of this legislation over the summer. Senate Democrats held off on bringing the bill to the floor until after the midterm elections, in hopes of securing the needed Republican support.
"The vote today is vindication that it was worth the wait," Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer told reporters.
On Monday, a bipartisan group of senators introduced an amendment including language protecting religious freedoms.
"As we went through this bill, we listened to the very sincere concerns of Americans with strongly held religious beliefs who simply wanted to make sure that Congress protects their First Amendment rights," said Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., another co-sponsor of the bill. "By casting politics aside and working hard behind the scenes over the past several months, we managed to strike a balance with this legislation."
A final vote could come as early as this week. If approved by the Senate, it would then go back to the House to pass as amended before heading to the president's desk.
