Sex/Life is a romantic comedy series that set the internet alight in the Summer of 2021, thanks to its risque scenes and raunchy moments. The series was created by Stacy Rukeyser, who previously worked as a producer on UnREAL and Twisted .
Official Netflix Renewal Status: Renewed (Last Updated: 09/12/2021)
It was reported in August 2021 that Netflix had quietly renewed Sex/Life . It’s no surprise that the series was renewed, thanks to a particular scene that caused an incredible stir online.
Since Netflix began recording the hourly numbers, Sex/Life has been watched for 282,100,000 million hours while in the Netflix global top ten list.
Here’s a breakdown of how well the show did in the top 10s (note that we’re missing the first week of viewings because Netflix’s data only goes up to June 27th).
According to the top 10 data from FlixPatrol, Sex/Life is the fourth-best performing Netflix Original series of 2021 and the best performing English Original series of the year. Only Squid Game, Money Heist and Lupin outperformed Sex/Life .
In the US, Nielsen tracked the viewing figures for the first season to be at over 449 million minutes watched.

Given production isn’t scheduled to start until February, and ends in April there’s only a slight chance that Sex/Life will return for season 2 in 2022.
At the earliest, we may see the series return by the end of 2022, but it’s more likely we’ll see the show return in early 2023.
We’ll definitely be seeing the return of plenty of actors from the first season. Naturally, we’ll see the return of Sarah Shahi, Mike Vogel, and Adam Demos, the actors behind Netflix’s sauciest love triangle.

We can expect to see the following actors return in Sex/Life season 2:

Wallis Day (known for playing Kate Kane in Batwoman and Agent Shin in Infinite ) will play Gigi.
Craig Bierko (known for UnREAL ) will play Mick.
Dylan Bruce (who starred in Orphan Black and Midnight, Texas) will play Spencer.
Darius Homayoun (known for playing Amir in Succession and Peyman in Apple TV+’s Tehran) will play Majid.
Cleo Anthony (featured in Divergent, Transparent and NCIS) plays Kam.
In other Sex/Life news, the showrunner recently contributed to a long piece from Vice discussing how showrunning is in a crisis at the moment .
We also know that Jessika Borsiczky will return to direct in season 2.

Sex/Life was the show of summer 2021 and if you didn't watch it, you for sure would of heard about it.
Just four months after the first series aired, Sex/Life Season 2 has been given the green light and is sure to be bolder than ever. Newsweek has everything you need to know about Sex/Life Season 2 including release date, trailer, plot, and more.
At the moment, Season 2 of Sex/Life does not yet have a release date.
The new series will most likely follow the release pattern of Season 1, which saw Sex/Life land on Netflix in late May 2021.Therefore, fans can expect another summer of love on the cards next year.
The show's renewal comes as no surprise, considering the drama was watched by 67 million households in the first four weeks since its May 25 release, Netflix recently revealed.
Sex/Life is the third-largest audience for the global streaming giant, following behind The Witcher in second place and Bridgerton in first.
The show's renewal was announced via Netflix's social media accounts, with the message: "Sex/Life has been renewed for Season 2!
"The first season was watched by 67 Million households — and 20 million of us rewound *that* scene at least once," Netflix wrote.
The scene in question was the moment when Billie's (Sarah Shahi) husband Cooper (Mike Vogel) got a glimpse of his rival Brad's (Adam Demos) penis in the gym showers and let's just say, the scene caused quite a stir. So much of a stir, 20 million rewound the scene in Episode 3.
The announcement was accompanied by a video of fan reactions and memorable clips from the show.
In a statement announcing the Season 2, Showrunner Stacey Rukeyser said: "Sex/Life is a dream come true. To create a show about empowered female sexuality that has entranced so many millions of viewers is not only immensely fun but also incredibly gratifying.
"When I think about all the women who have reached out from all over the world to say that the show speaks to them in a deeply personal way, I am so inspired. I'm thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to continue telling this story for Billie, and for all of us."
The entire main cast is set to return for Sex/Life Season 2.
This means Person of Interest star Sarah Shahi will return as Billie Connelly, a married woman who fantasizes about her wild past with her ex-boyfriend Brad.
Bates Motel star Mike Vogel and UnREAL's Adam Demos are set to return as her love interests husband Cooper and ex-boyfriend Brad respectively.
Boogie's Margaret Odette will also return as Sasha Snow, Billie's best friend who is a psychology professor living her best single life.
Sex/Life Season 2 will pick up from the dramatic cliffhanger ending of Season 1, which saw Billie run back into the arms of Brad despite committing fully to her husband Cooper.
After weeks of being unable to decide between Mike and Brad, or herself for that matter, it looked like Billie had finally come to a decision. She chose her husband and her family life at home in Connecticut. Billie began to put herself first and even re-enrolled in Columbia University to finish her psychology PH.D.
However, in the show's final moments, Billie was seen heading straight for Brad's apartment, where she asked him if they had a future together. Frustratingly, the credits rolled before Brad could answer her question.
Billie's little trip to see Brad is set to pose even more problems for her marriage as Cooper is already aware of where Billie's whereabouts, thanks to the family location sharing app.
Before Season 2 was officially given the greenlight, Showrunner Stacey Rukeyser told Newsweek Season 2 was set to "complicated". She also teased her plans to delve deep into the backstories of Cooper and of Billie's best friend Sasha (Margaret Odette).
Rukeyser said: "Everybody wants to know what happens after that final moment [and] that's definitely what we'll have to address," she said.
"There's so much more to explore not just about Billie and the choice that she's making, but about all of our characters. So much of Season 1 was about Billie and her past and what's made her the way that she is. I think it's really interesting to learn more about Cooper and Sasha and what their origin story is and how did they come to be the people that they are.
"But, ultimately, this is a story about a woman who is going through a version of a midlife crisis—and where is that going to take her, and is this the worst decision of her life or the best decision of her life? It's certainly going to be very complicated."
Sex/Life is based on the novel 44 Chapters About 4 Men by BB Easton, which has since had four spin-offs Skin, Speed, Star, and Suit so there is plenty of material to choose from going forward for Season 2.
No, there is no trailer yet for Sex/Life Season 2, as of September 28. A trailer is likely to drop closer to the show's release date next year.
In the meantime, you can watch Sex/Life Season 1 on Netflix now. Alternatively, there are plenty of other shows just like Sex/Life you can watch, such as Elite, What/If, and Too Hot to Handle.
Sex/Life Season 2 is coming soon to Netflix.
