Sex/Life is an American drama streaming television series created by Stacy Rukeyser for Netflix . The series is inspired by the novel 44 Chapters About 4 Men by BB Easton and it premiered on June 25, 2021. [1] [2] In September 2021, the series was renewed for a second season. [3]

Promotional materials described the show as what happens when "a suburban mother of two takes a fantasy-charged trip down memory lane that sets her very married present on a collision course with her wild-child past." [4]

On August 19, 2019, it was announced that Netflix had given the production a series order for a first season consisting of eight episodes. The series was created by Stacy Rukeyser who was also expected to executive produce alongside J. Miles Dale. [1] The series was released on June 25, 2021. [2] On September 27, 2021, Netflix renewed the series for a second season. [3]

On January 30, 2020, it was announced that Sarah Shahi was cast to headline the series. [6] On March 5, 2020, it was reported that Mike Vogel , Adam Demos , and Margaret Odette were cast in starring roles. [7] On February 28, 2022, Wallis Day , Dylan Bruce , Craig Bierko , Cleo Anthony , and Darius Homayoun joined the cast in recurring roles for the second season. [5]

Principal photography for the series was originally scheduled to begin in Spring 2020, but was later postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic . [8] Filming for the first season began on August 31, 2020 and ended on December 9, 2020 in Mississauga , Ontario, Canada. [9] [10] Filming for the second season began on February 7, 2022 and concluded on May 6, 2022 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. [11]

The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reports a 22% approval rating with an average rating of 5.6/10, based on 23 critic reviews. The website's critical consensus reads, "Suffocating its more provocative ideas with steamy interludes and melodramatic writing, this erotic drama is too obsessed with sex to ever fully come to life." [12] Metacritic , which uses a weighted average, assigned a score of 45 out of 100 based on 11 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews". [13]

On September 27, 2021, it was reported that the first season of Sex/Life was watched by 67 million households in its first four weeks since its release on June 25. [3]

Billie Connelly is a housewife living in Connecticut , married to her husband Cooper and with two young children. Whilst loving her husband and family, Billie is unable to stop herself from consistently reminiscing about her past as a wild party girl. The longing for her previous life grows ever stronger as her relationship with Cooper continues to disappoint her sexually, and despite the counsel of her best friend Sasha, Billie also keeps thinking back to her former relationship with Brad, a record producer. Billie documents her desires on her laptop and this is discovered one morning by Cooper, leading the two to have passionate sex for the first time in years. However, after Cooper leaves for work, Billie impulsively goes to New York City to confide her feelings to Sasha. Upon arrival, Billie is left devastated when she sees Sasha slept with Brad the previous night.
"Down in the Tube Station at Midnight"

Billie and Sasha reconcile after the revelation of Sasha's casual hookups with Brad. On her way back to Connecticut, Billie reflects on how she first met Cooper and her reasoning for settling down with him, namely the stability he offered. Billie also reflects on the origins of her relationship with Brad and how she was unable to resist him. In the present day, Cooper takes Billie out into Brooklyn for a date night, where she again reminisces about how she misses Brad but also is reminded of how she loves Cooper. On their way home, Cooper sneaks them both into a secluded backyard pool where they have sex, seeking to give Billie the kind of thrills she wrote in her journal. However, they are caught by the owner and narrowly escape the police as a result, heightening the thrill even more for them. On returning home, Billie is elated but Cooper is privately disgusted with himself. Brad also calls Billie unprompted, where he admits that he still loves Billie. She denies wanting him in return and ends the call, though she is distressed about doing so and Brad challenges her over text about her feelings.

Official Netflix Renewal Status: Renewed (Last Updated: 09/12/2021)
It was reported in August 2021 that Netflix had quietly renewed Sex/Life . It’s no surprise that the series was renewed, thanks to a particular scene that caused an incredible stir online.
Since Netflix began recording the hourly numbers, Sex/Life has been watched for 282,100,000 million hours while in the Netflix global top ten list.
Here’s a breakdown of how well the show did in the top 10s (note that we’re missing the first week of viewings because Netflix’s data only goes up to June 27th).
According to the top 10 data from FlixPatrol, Sex/Life is the fourth-best performing Netflix Original series of 2021 and the best performing English Original series of the year. Only Squid Game, Money Heist and Lupin outperformed Sex/Life .
In the US, Nielsen tracked the viewing figures for the first season to be at over 449 million minutes watched.

Given production isn’t scheduled to start until February, and ends in April there’s only a slight chance that Sex/Life will return for season 2 in 2022.
At the earliest, we may see the series return by the end of 2022, but it’s more likely we’ll see the show return in early 2023.
We’ll definitely be seeing the return of plenty of actors from the first season. Naturally, we’ll see the return of Sarah Shahi, Mike Vogel, and Adam Demos, the actors behind Netflix’s sauciest love triangle.

We can expect to see the following actors return in Sex/Life season 2:
In late February 2022, we also got news on who will be joining the Sex/Life season 2.
Wallis Day (known for playing Kate Kane in Batwoman and Agent Shin in Infinite ) will play Gigi.
Craig Bierko (known for UnREAL ) will play Mick.
Dylan Bruce (who starred in Orphan Black and Midnight, Texas) will play Spencer.
Darius Homayoun (known for playing Amir in Succession and Peyman in Apple TV+’s Tehran) will play Majid.
Cleo Anthony (featured in Divergent, Transparent and NCIS) plays Kam.
In other Sex/Life news, the showrunner recently contributed to a long piece from Vice discussing how showrunning is in a crisis at the moment .
We also know that Jessika Borsiczky will return to direct in season 2.

Sector of a person's day-to-day life which involves any form of sexual activity
"Sex lives" redirects here. For the 2021 Netflix series, see Sex/Life .
In human sexuality , a sex life is a sector of a person's day-to-day existence which may involve sexual activity or represent the absence of sexual activity. In general parlance, the term can have many sub-meanings and social layers, but generally includes the following:

Several sources say that in humans, frequency of sexual intercourse might range from 0 to 20 times a week. [1] In the United States, the average frequency of sexual intercourse for married couples is 2 to 3 times a week. [2] It is generally recognized that postmenopausal women experience declines in frequency of sexual intercourse [3] and that average frequency of intercourse declines with age. According to the Kinsey Institute , average frequency of sexual intercourse in US is 112 times per year (age 18–29), 86 times per year (age 30–39), and 69 times per year (age 40–49). [4]

In a number of sexual harassment cases, certain employees and others have been asked about their sex lives, [5] often repeatedly, including in a case filed against Mitsubishi Motor Manufacturing of America by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). [6]
