Life as a teenager is confusing, as shown on Netflix's newest series Sex Education. Find out which character you relate to more using the MBTI®
Netflix has been absolutely killing the game lately with great new shows, including their newest release, Sex Education . The comedy series depicts the life of a socially awkward high-schooler turn sex counselor, and the countless debacles he and the rest of the characters manage to get into.
With the show surrounding an array of high school students, it goes without saying that the series is full of eclectic and different personalities. Despite there being so many different personas, we've gone ahead and sorted out each character according to their Myers-Briggs® personality types.
Otis Milburn, played by actor Asa Butterfield, is the show's primary character (and high-schooler turn sex therapist) that really makes this series worth the watch! Otis is quite timid, shy, and keeps to himself; that is until he begins his career as a sex expert of sorts. Despite his introverted personality type, Otis is quite practical and fact-minded; he is not one to get too caught up in doing the wrong thing. With that being said, this makes Otis quite the logistician!
Jean Milburn, who plays Otis Milburn's mother, is played by none other than Gillian Anderson. Jean, who is a professional sex therapist, finds herself being quite protective of both her son Otis and his close friends as well.
Although Jean may be extremely protective, she can certainly cross the line at times into being far too over-protective, especially when it comes to her son's personal needs. Considering Jean overbearing at times, she always means well, and only wants to see her child happy, making her the perfect match as the defender personality type.
Eric Effoing, played by actor Ncuti Gatwa, is Otis Milburn's best friend! He brings much of the comedy to this series and is one fierce character.
Eric is only one of two openly-gay characters on the show and finds himself being the life of the party in many ways. Despite his internal struggle with acceptance at one point during the series, Eric is quick to shake himself out of his period of doubts, and get back into the social game! These characteristics make Eric quite the campaigner, displaying enthusiastic, creative, and socially free characteristics, making him the perfect fit for that very type.
Maeve Wiley, who is played on-screen by actress Emma Mackey, is the unphased character who could not be bothered with social groups or hierarchy in the slightest! Despite her careless attitude, Maeve is quite the smarty-pants; not only is she academically talented, but she is quite the entrepreneur. Maeve is the mastermind behind the entire sex therapy business that she and Otis provide to their fellow high-school counterparts. Considering she is quite imaginative, strategic, and can easily come up with a plan for just about anything and everything, Maeve is hands down the architect personality type.
Adam Goff is the high-school bully with a major secret that reveals a lot of why he acts the way he does, but without giving away too much, he is not as mean as you'd think!
Played by actor, Connor Swindells, Adam is not only the principal's son but is considered as the high-school failure, who finds himself getting shipped off to military school in the series final episode. With that being said, Adam fits the executive personality type the most, with a sprinkle of the advocate type as well! Sure, he may be quite stern and power hungry at first, but he has a quiet and mystical side that leaves viewers secretly rooting for him.
Jackson Marchetti plays the role of the school jock! Played by actor Kedar Williams-Stirling, Jackson is the uber-popular athlete who becomes one of the most beloved characters on the show. Despite his hardships he endures between himself and his mother, Jackson is always able to rise to the top and shine.
These characteristics make Jackson the protagonist of personality types. Jackson is incredibly charismatic and has countless leader-like qualities and can mesmerize just about anyone from his peers, parents. or the school principal.
Aimee Gibbs is part of the coolest group at school known as the "Untouchables." She's also secretly best friends with Maeve Wiley, however, which is a major social faux-pas when it comes to her posse. Despite her being somewhat of a ditz at times, Aimee is definitely someone who knows what she wants and how to get it! From throwing lavish parties, hosting study sessions, and doing just about anything she can to impress her love interest, Aimee is undoubtedly an entertainer. She is quite energetic, and it goes without saying that there is never a dull moment with Aimee, making this personality type very fitting.
Mr. Goff, played by actor Alistair Petrie, is definitely not the fan favorite! Mr. Goff plays the high school principal and Adam Goff's father.
His character is extremely authoritative, and can only be classified as an adult bully. Mr. Goff displays dictator-like behavior throughout the series, making him an executive personality type in all the worst ways. In addition to looking down on his own son, Mr. Goff also pays no mind to students such as Maeve Wiley, who he believes is nothing but a failure, too. If shipping your son off to military school doesn't scream executive personality type, then we aren't sure what will.
Ola Nyman is one of the sweetest characters in the whole series! Although Ola may not be present for very long, she still stands out as quite the sweetheart. Starting off as the cheeky girl who shows up at Otis Milburn's door, to becoming his first ever girlfriend, Ola is definitely the mediator. With a very poetic and kind personality, Ola is always there to make Otis smile and is always eager to lend a helping hand, whether it's attending a school dance or fixing a burst pipe.
As mentioned previously, the "Untouchables" are the most popular group at school. They are made up of four members, Aimee, Ruby, Anwar, and Olivia. They are incredibly stylish and snobby at the same time, however, Aimee proves to be different from the other three later on in the season.
Despite their dashing looks, the Untouchables are quite ugly on the inside, making them too, an executive personality type. They are great at manipulating just about anyone and anything, which fits the type to the T. Although they are mean 99.9% of the time, there are some moments that make them seem somewhat humane, but those moments pass quickly.

Today we explore the 16 personality types of the characters from Netflix’s hit show, Sex Education. There have been three series of the comedy-drama that follows the lives of students, parents and teachers of the fictitious Moordale Secondary School as they navigate life, sex and relationships.
Take a look below to see which character from Sex Education shares your personality type. If you don’t know your personality type, you can take our free 5-minute personality test.
Otis Milburn is an ISFJ. ISFJs typically have a talent for making everyone feel comfortable, and Otis achieves this through talking to people in a comforting manner at his sex clinic. He is a unique mixture of being introverted yet people-oriented. He is drawn to helping and educating people and uses his mum’s knowledge and experience to help people in Moordale Secondary School with sex questions.
Maeve Wiley is an ISTP. ISTPs are the coolest of the cool and they take life as it comes, which is Maeve to a tee. In true ISTP fashion, she’s private and doesn’t give much away, making her tricky to read and figure out. It was Maeve’s idea to start the sex clinic with Otis because she wanted to make some money and knew Otis was keen to educate and help people. Amy and Otis are attracted to her quiet confidence and understated boldness.
Jean Milburn is an ENFJ. ENFJs love to provide advice and support people, whether it’s family or a stranger, which is fitting for her job as an sex and relationship therapist. She strives to help others and make the world a better place. Jean has a unique combination of charisma, enthusiasm and communication skills that make her a natural leader.
Eric Effiong is an true ESFP. ESFPs bring positivity to the lives of others with their energetic and fun-loving nature, which is exactly what Eric does in all situations. As a natural performer, Eric enjoys being in the spotlight and having the attention on him. Eric expresses his creativity and identity through bold fashion and make-up.
Adam Groff is an ISFP. His character develops throughout the series. In early episodes, he is an unhealthy ISFP who disregards the rules of society and the school. He is self-centred and doesn’t care about the consequences of his actions. In the most recent episodes, he is a healthy, very introverted ISFP who is compassionate and affectionate. Every day can be an emotional rollercoaster for male ISFPs and this feels a lot like Adam’s life.
Aimee Gibbs is a stereotypical healthy ESFJ. She is the ultimate people-pleaser and tells people what they want to here because she doesn’t want to let them down. These conflict-averse and overly selfless personality traits are typical of an ESFJ. Aimee is sensitive and warm. Her argument with Maeve upset her deeply and she wanted to make things better. Her and Maeve would be a perfect personality match on So Syncd!
Lily Iglehart is an INTP. She lives in her fantasy world and enjoys digging into the concept of aliens to seek the truth behind their existence, like a typical INTP. She is creative yet analytical. Lily doesn’t really care about what other people think of her and she doesn’t follow traditions for the sake of it. She prefers to do things her own way and is incredibly individualistic.
Jackson Marchetti is an ENFJ. ENFJs have a unique combination of charisma, enthusiasm and communication skills that make them natural leaders, hence why Jackson is head boy of Moordale High School. With a strong desire for meaningful relationships and a genuine interest in people, in Season 3, Jackson stands up to Hope Haddon about equality on behalf of Cal (an ISTP) and the school.
Ola Nyman is an ESFP. She is energetic and fun-loving. She prefers to live in the moment and focuses on the physical world. In Season 3, Ola asked Lily if they could stop having sex in a fantasy world and be together in the real world together, without all the costumes and aliens. As an ESFP, Ola has strong inner morals and values which is why she is so clear about what she thinks is right and wrong.
Ruby Matthews is a typical ESTJ Queen B, just like Regina George from Mean Girls. Shes loves nothing more than being in control of situations, like her relationship with Otis, and leading her tribe, like an ESTJ. She is a naturally dominating character who has an ability to stay focused. Ruby communicates in a direct and straightforward manner, and you can always rely on her to say it how it is.
Isaac Goodwin is an ENTP. He is quick to question existing ways of doing things, placing little value on tradition for tradition’s sake. As an ENTP, Isaac is a dynamic individual who has a quick wit and a high energy presence.
Hope Haddon is an unhealthy ENTJ. She is controlling and bossy, using students as pawns with no regard for them as humans or their emotions. Hope is manipulative and forces people to listen to her opinions. She manipulated Viv and used her as an ‘in’ to the students. As an unhealthy ENTJ, Hope lacks self-awareness.
Jakob Nyman is an ISFP. He is not one to do things by the book and although he is often quite calm, he is full of passion and can be quite unpredictable. Jakob places little value on tradition and is a big believer in individuality. He very much lives in the present moment and is happy to go with the flow.
Cal Bowman is an ISTP. He is easy-going and straightforward. He sees little point in overthinking or worrying about situations that can’t be changed, so quite simply they don’t. When Hope was so incapable of understanding that Cal did not identify with a gender, they remained cool and calm when communicating with Hope. Cal valued their freedom and wasn’t an emotional character, just like an ISTP.
Michael Groff is a classic ISTJ. He understands hard work and he takes his role within society, and his headmaster duties, seriously. With his logical way of approaching life, he can find it hard to process and talk about his feelings, which is typical of an ISTJ. He is reserved, private and enjoys routine. This was shaken up in Season 3 after his family life came crashing down on him.
Viv Odusanya is an ESTJ. She likes to be in control of situations and enjoys the feeling of power, like an ESTJ. She jumped at the chance to be Head Girl, even though it meant screwing Jackson over. She is direct and straightforward, favoring facts over theories.
Colin Hendricks is an ENFP. He is a free spirit who loves jumping head-first into projects and thrives in the world of ideas and possibilities, just like ENFPs. He is warm, expressive and creative, particularly with his music and interesting song choices. Colin remains enthusiastic despite Hope putting a dampner on the school spirit.
Rahim is an ISFP. As an accepting and individualistic character, Rahim rarely judge others for their life choices, like an ISFP. He is open-minded and appreciates that different ways of living work for different people. Rahim is down-to-earth, passionate and unconventional, which are all personality traits on an ISFP.

Just finished watching the second season of this awesome series and here are my thoughts on the types. Please let me know, if you have an other point of view.
Otis - INTP. He seems to kinda be somewhat oblivious to the emotions of others, however he tries hard to be moral and good, probably as pointed out in the show to stop himself from becoming his father.
Maeve - INTJ. yeah could see her as ISFP but dunno. Probably an Fi user somewhere in the mix.
Eric - ESFP. I feel this is more likely than ENFP
Aimee - ESFJ. Her whole thing about not knowing how she feels about things seems to be indicative of a lack of Fi to me, like when the bus thing happens, she doesn't realise how she feels until she talks it out with people and is made aware that it had more of an effect on her than she initially realised.
Lily - INFP. Could be INTP just as easily, just thought there was nothing particularly T about her, her Ne is apparent to me moreso.
Ola - ExxP. Honesty could be an ESTP or ESFP. I don't particularly see Ne in her, would you mind pointing that out? She's described by Otis as "str
