Gripping teen-comedy Sex Education is back for season 3 on Netflix and fans are keen to catch up with the relentless, awkward shenanigans of Otis and his high-school colleagues. Jackson and new character Cal are also in the spotlight of this new chapter and we explore their new relationship.
Season 3 has welcomed a batch of new actors into the original roster, including Jason Isaacs, Jemima Kirke, and Dua Saleh – who portrays Jackson’s new love interest, Cal.
Meanwhile, Eric also has his own love triangle to navigate and fans hold their breath to find out whether Otis and Maeve get closer.
Moordale welcomed the addition of non-binary student Cal as a season 3 regular, and they quickly formed a close connection with Jackson Marchetti (Kedar Williams-Stirling).
Cal challenged Headmistress Hope’s old-fashioned standards when it came to sex ed class and school uniforms, and Jackson supported them throughout their endeavour to be themselves.
This friendship led to new grounds for Jackson, where he began to have romantic feelings for Cal. As the pair grew closer, sharing intimate moments together, Cal said if they were to enter into a relationship, it would be a queer relationship.
Cal explained how they didn’t want Jackson to see them as a girl, and although Jackson was open to exploring the possibility, Cal didn’t want to carry Jackson through that journey and the pair decided to stay friends.
Towards the close of the season, Jackson confirmed he still had feelings for Cal and he was unsure how to navigate being friends with someone he liked.
Jackson appeared in Sex Education season 1 as the popular kid and swimming champion.
His first relationship was with Maeve and the pair had high and low points in their relationship. Maeve felt like she didn’t meet the standards of his mothers and Jackson opened up about his mental health battles. Eventually, Jackson and Maeve split up when the former realised Maeve had feelings for Otis.
Season 2 saw Jackson become close friends with Viv, who helped him through his mental health issues. Viv tutored him and encouraged him to be part of the school play.
Towards the end of season 2, Viv confides in Jackson’s mothers about his mental health issues. Jackson was angry at first for sharing something confidential, but his friendship with Viv ends up deepening.

Warning: Contains spoilers for Sex Education.
Sex Education might have become synonymous with racy teens and Gillian Anderson’s turn as a sex therapist, but there’s a sweet centre at the Netflix show’s core.
A scene from episode four has the soft side on full display – where Jackson is encouraged by Otis, under ulterior motives, to make a grand statement to win over Maeve.
While you expect Jackson’s serenade with a swing band to go disastrously wrong, the show flips these expectations on its head – seeing the high school athlete sing relatively well to Billy Ocean’s Love Really Hurts Without You, and winning over his love.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk , actor Kedar Williams-Stirling revealed he originally rehearsed an entirely different song which was going to be used in the scene.
‘It wasn’t actually going to be Billy Ocean,’ Kedar said. ‘It was going to be I Touch Myself by Divinyls, but then we changed it to Billy Ocean which I’m really glad about and it was received well.

‘I think the song that was chosen just fitted better. He’s trying to woo her isn’t he, not embarrass her. It could work two ways. A lot of my friends who watched it thought me singing on the table was going to be me making a fool out of myself, and then as I serenade, people think, “Oh he’s actually decent.”
‘So depending on what song he sung, it could have gone one of two ways.’
Filming the scene itself, however, was a terrifying experience for the actor, adding: ‘That was nerve-wracking. Olly, the composer, he basically pre-recorded it with the swing band and they were great.
‘I had to sing it live at the beginning because director Ben Taylor wanted it as nervous as I would be, which I would be standing on a table singing. But then they put the click track in and it is what it is after that, but it was cool.
‘I mean at the end of it I was kind of glad to be done with it, but it was a lot of fun.’
Kedar also revealed whether he thinks Jackson will continue to persist with Maeve in a potential season two, following the show’s excellent finale.

Kedar, 26, is an actor from London.
He was born in in Plaistow, Newham, in East London, and later moved to South London. He began acting in primary school plays, and was then encouraged to audition for the Sylvia Young Theatre School when he was in Year 6 by his mother.
Kedar later trained at Barbara Speake Stage School and Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts.

Filming for Sex Education season 4 is expected to begin in July 2022.

Sex Education is returning to Netflix for a fourth season but it won’t be on Netflix until 2023 at the earliest, so it’ll be a long wait until we return to Moordale Secondary School. Here’s a rundown of everything we know so far about Sex Education season 4.
The raunchy and rambunctious comedy has never failed to disappoint. In fact, each season gets stronger thanks to its genuine character growth, a great story, and the care and attention it takes to address sex and relationships of all different shapes and sizes.
The show first debuted on Netflix back in January 2019 with season 3 arriving on September 17th, 2020 .
Official Netflix Renewal Status: Renewed on September 25th, 2021
Unsurprisingly, Netflix has renewed Sex Education for its fourth season. The news broke during Netlfix’s TUDUM event.
There has never been any doubt that Sex Education is still one of the most popular Originals in its arsenal, and as the flagship comedy series for the streaming service, it’s no wonder on its return that it had an instant impact on the top 10 lists around the world.
At the time of writing Sex Education has snatched away the top spot from the final season of Lucifer , and is currently holds the number one spot on Netflix in 70 different countries including the US, UK, Australia, and Canada.
Through Netflix’s new top 10 data , we can see that season 3 was one of the biggest shows of the month of September.
Between September 12th and October 24th, the show was watched for over 447,750,000 hours globally. We also saw season 1 and season 2 enter the global top 10s too, suggesting that even more people decided to jump into the show or plenty of people were going back and rewatching.
We’ve been lucky to receive a season of Sex Education every year since it was first released on Netflix in January 2019. However, the fourth season will be the very first of the series to break the streak.
Over the last few months we’ve seen numerous reports of when the show is due to get filming.
Production listings as of June 2022 suggest that the series will begin filming in July 2022 but not wrap up until at least March 2023 (this is longer than the November 2022 wrap date we previously reported). Thanks to some recent promotional material reveal we can 100% confirm filming is underway.
Given the information we know about season 4 of Sex Education , we speculate a summer 2023 release at the absolute earliest.
Just like the end of every season of Sex Education , we’re left with plenty of questions for the next season.
Just as the pair finally admitted their feelings for each other a new romance was blossoming, Maeve dropped a bombshell that she would be going to the US for a couple of months putting the relationship on hold for now.
We’ll get the chance to see what the future holds for their relationship when Maeve gets back from America, but two months apart, and time abroad could see a radical change in Maeve upon her return.
Regarding the future of Maeve, Emma Mackey told ELLE “I’m excited for her to make some new friends, to open up a bit more and be exposed to a different culture, to a different kind of world. Because she’s only ever lived in her little tiny bubbles. How is she out of that bubble?”

Eric is often the voice of reason for Otis and a lot of the time has helped by being the moral compass of the series. However, that hasn’t stopped him from cheating on both boyfriends he’s had. First, he cheated on Rahim with former bully Adam, and then while in Nigeria he cheated on Adam with photographer Oba.
Eric has broken up with Adam so that he can explore his sexuality without being tied down to a relationship. How Eric wishes to explore his newfound confidence remains to be seen, but there is a chance he’s put Adam and Rahim on a collision course for their own relationship.

With the birth of his little sister Joy, you’d think that Otis, Jean, Ola, and Jakob could look forward to life as a happy family. However, Jean received some unwelcome news while at the hospital, heavily suggesting that Jakob may not be the father of Joy after all.
We know Jean had a healthy sex life before meeting Jakob, having regular encounters with Dan and Harry. And while Jean only kissed her ex-husband Remi, was it actually something more that we didn’t see on-screen?
We did see Dan return in season 3, having a brief comedic moment outside of the hospital joking about the possibility of the baby being his. It’s between Dan and Remi who the potential father is, which is guaranteed to break Jakob’s heart again.

Cal is only one of two students that we know of at Moordale Academy that identify as non-binary. By the end of the season, Cal befriended Layla, another non-binary student who struggled throughout the season, preferring to follow rules and avoid conflict, even if that mean conflicting with their beliefs.
