Sexual education at school is a volunteer project, initiated by BeMSA and supported by ICRH and Sensoa. With this initiative, we want to give adolescents access to reliable information about sexuality, relationships, contraception and STD prevention. In an airy educational way, we try to give the youngsters the ability to make informed and individual decisions about their body and health. In addition, we want to break some existing myths about these topics. Medical students go to high schools in which young people (13-17 years) get a four hour session. The SOS project is a form of peer education in which young people are supported to bring about a health-promoting behavioural change with other young people. This leads to a lower threshold for talking about sensitive subjects.
Peer Education with adolescents and young people on a variety of topics pertaining to Sexual Health
The mean age that young people in Belgium have sex for the first time is 15 years. However, statistical evidence reports a decrease of the use of contraceptive measures. Moreover, research showed an increase of the occurrence of STI’s.
The target group are young adults who are in high school (13-17 years).
Objectives and indicators of success:

We want to give adolescents access to reliable information about sexuality, relationships, contraception and STD prevention. In an airy educational way, we try to give the youngsters the ability to make informed and individual decisions about their body and health and break some existing myths about these topics. The project is a form of peer education in which young people are supported to bring about a health-promoting behavioural change with other young people.
The evaluation includes the following questions: Is there a subject that you wanted to know more about? Do you feel that we answered all your questions? Do you have remaining questions? What are your remaining questions? Afterwards the outcomes will be compared with the initial statistics.
IFMSA is officially registered at the Chamber of Commerce in Denmark. IFMSA is a Public Benefit Organization (PBO / ANBI) according to the DanishTax Authorities: CVR number 40538062.

A Belgian sex education website featuring highly explicit drawings has come under fire after children as young as seven were recommended to view it.
The bizarre website, called 'Alles over seks' ('Everything about sex'), was launched by Sensoa, an expert centre for sexual health in the Belgian region of Flanders.
On the website, the organisation describes and illustrates explicit aspects of sex, ranging from birth control and STDs to various sexual positions and sex toys.
Oral sex techniques such as the 'twist and shout' method, the 'V-finger technique' and the 'deep cave sex position' are demonstrated for Belgian youngsters.

The hummingbird technique is explained as: 'Make with your tongue rapid 'flappy' movements over the penis, just like the wings of a hummingbird. You can apply this technique everywhere, from the testicles to the tip of the penis.'
The website was originally meant for 15-year-olds but was also recommended to children as young as seven in Belgian schools.
According to Belgian media, the website was recommended in the 'Youth Guide', a children's advice guide supported by the Flemish government and distributed across primary schools in the region.
Frederic Leire, father of two children aged seven and nine, said his youngsters got the guide at school. He said he was shocked when he saw how explicit the website is.
Leire said: 'I would even call it perversity.
'It is great that such a website exists, but I don't think that children will ask questions like how many sex positions there are and if they need drugs for sexual pleasures.'
The umbrella organisation of Catholic Education was also shocked about the website, which said the sex education website was too technically focused and did not detail the relational aspect.
Spokeswoman Marijke van Bogaert said: 'It is up to the parents to talk about this with their children.
'We should give 11- and 12-year-olds information about sexuality which is tailor-made for their age group.'

Flemish Minister for Culture and Youth Sven Gatz disagreed and said that those opposed show 'a new kind of prudishness'.
Gatz said: 'I am a proponent to talk openly about sexuality, without taboos.
'And that is exactly what this website does with explicit drawings.'
Sensoa spokesman Boris Cruyssaert said that the website is first and foremost meant for 'youngsters older than 15'.
Cruyssaert said: 'But for youngsters aged ten or 11 there is not a single other website which so comprehensively gives answers. Then it is better that they go to allesoverseks.be.'
