After a climactic second season, Sex Education fans have taken to the web and began speculating about what will be in store for the newest season. What will come of Maeve and Otis?
Already producing its third season after becoming one of Netflix's most popular series in 2019 is Sex Education . It's strange to think that it's only been a few months since the fans last seen season 2. It feels like it was just yesterday that the fans were demanding answers after that shocking finale. However, it looks like fans won't have to wait long.
Every so many weeks, the creators give fans a preview of what is to come. They have already revealed which new characters will be added to this season, released several behind-the-scenes videos as well as a few pictures. But if that isn't enough to tide them over, they could entertain themselves by looking at the theories on the web. It actually might be worth a look since there are some interesting takes. Take a look at these examples...
It's not the most fairytale-like theory but one fan shared the possibility that Maeve and Otis are not supposed to end up as a real couple. Unlike most "happy endings," perhaps the point of this relationship is to show viewers that even though two people might be well-suited, the relationship just may not work out.
After all, this couple not only have perfect reasons to be together but they also have some huge obstacles to get over too . Will the writers of Sex Education show viewers a less-than-sweet finale for this duo? Some people agree with this hypothesis, some don't. Fans will just have to wait and see what happens.
Some people say that Otis revealing his feelings to Maeve over a voicemail was a huge mistake. The timing just seemed off considering that Maeve was needing space and distance from him after the hurt he had caused her. There are also several fans who think that the voicemail itself was not romantic at all. In fact, they thought it was actually inappropriate considering the problems these characters were going through.
However, there are some who have wasted no time in leaping to Otis' defense. They claim that since he is a shy and naturally anxious person, at least this method ensures Maeve doesn't misinterpret his message. Others believe that he should have done something dramatic like what Adam did with Eric . Maybe there is hope for the new season?
It is not the first time that this series draws attention to the connection between characters. They first saw it with Maeve and Jackson, then Ola and Lily, and now Ruby and Otis. Although they have only interacted a few times, some have spotted the chemistry between Ruby and Otis.
They believe that the connection they shared in season 2 could potentially develop into something more and they could very well end up in a relationship. It wouldn't even be surprising if the writers went down this route either. They may just use this storyline to reinforce the plot around the fact that Otis's feelings for Maeve will always be unshakable.
By the end of season 2, viewers learn that Jean is pregnant. This came as a complete and unexpected surprise for both her character and the audience. Not only is she far into her 40s but the father is Jakob, a loving man who Jean had recently broken up with. Everyone is still wondering what will happen next .
If the behind-the-scenes video is anything to go by, it's safe to say that Jean will be keeping the baby. But that has left fans with a whole new set of questions . Some are even wondering if the birth will even happen this season. They are just hoping that Jakob will be happy with the news since he is one of the most cheerful characters in the show.
If you love the topics about relationships and how they unexpectedly develop , then that means you also noticed the connection between Viv and Jackson. Because this fan sure did . This person predicts that Jackson and Viv's current friendship will turn into an absolutely surprising romantic setup.
As many fans know, Viv and Jackson didn't exactly run in the same social circles. She was a nerd and he was a jock. She was shy and he was confident. On paper, they had nothing in common. However, everyone could see that they shared a special bond. After all, Viv helped him find his passion for drama and he helped to boost her confidence self-esteem. It wouldn't be totally awful if these decided to get in a relationship, but who knows?
Speculation is all fans got at this stage since the actors have only just resumed filming season 3. But one thing that people mostly want to see resolved is how will Eric and Adam's relationship turn out , especially now after Adam's brave declaration of love for Eric.
Besides being one of the sweetest and most liked characters on this series , fans really do feel that Eric deserves to find some happiness. Whether that is with Adam or Rahim, who knows ? Fans just don't want to see him hurt anymore...
Isaac has proved to be controversial. In the beginning, fans actually liked his character. He was positive, witty, and seemed to understand Maeve on a level that no one else could. However, by the end of season 2, he became one of the most detested characters on the show.
After earning Maeve's trust and becoming her confidant, Isaac ends sneaking up on her phone and deletes a crucial voicemail from Otis. Now, fan theories conjecture that his plan is to manipulate Maeve to keep her away from Otis for as long as he can. What is not yet clear is the motivation behind this action .
Many fans also believe that Maeve will retreat back into her typical rebellious stage and refuse to forgive Otis for what he did. However, will this come as a cost of her relationships? While she is certainly one of the brightest and most, intelligent characters on the show, she can act a little irrational and hurt those closest to her.
As fans have seen before, she can be really sharp and mean when wanting to be. She has even slung quite a few insults towards those who have angered or let her down. Therefore, it's not totally improbable that Maeve will try to get revenge on Otis by dating someone new.
After a huge turn of events during season 2, where Ruby and Otis supposedly slept together , the two struck up an unexpected bond. Some say that this closeness between them will lead spectators to see a lot more from Ruby.
That they will understand the source of many of her personal issues and get an update on her relationship with her father. It would also be interesting to see if her family circumstances affect her mental health and if this is one of the reasons for her 'tough girl' facade.
A theory from a fan suggests that there will be a season 4 (perhaps in 2022) that will start with the continuation of a major plot twist at the end of season 3. And that is: Maeve discovering that Isaac had deleted the voicemail just as Otis and Ruby decide to explore their relationship further.
This would definitely place their connection in a hot spot, once again, and serve as a basis for new narratives to develop. The possibility of Otis, the "weird kid" dating Ruby, the "hottest and most popular chick in school," while battling his feelings for Maeve is a very possible scenario.

Sex Education Season 3 is available to stream and download on Netflix now. The third outing branches outside of Maeve (played by Emma Mackey) and Otis's (Asa Butterfield) sex clinic storyline and delves into the lives of some of the show's more unique characters. One couple to feature prominently in Season 3, Episode 3, are Maeve's slightly quirky neighbors, Cynthia (Lisa Palfrey) and Jeffrey (Joe Wilkinson).
The third episode begins by taking audiences for a ride (literally) in Cynthia and Jeffrey's caravan. They are having dinner and decide to spice up their evening with a lot of sex. As things heat up between the pair and the caravan shakes from the sheer force, Cynthia's pet cat Jonathan waltzes into the room.
Most likely horrified watching his human parents and deafened by Cynthia's screams of pleasure, Jonathan freezes in the kitchen area of the caravan. Sadly for Jonathan, he happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The shaking of the caravan is so forceful, it knocks the microwave off of the wall, squashing Jonathan to death.
The graphic scene was not only mentally scarring for Cynthia, but audiences watching at home.
One Sex Education fan tweeted: "no because who wrote that cat into the sex education storyline was there any need."
A second fan said: "that cat scene....unnecessary yikes #sexeducation" and another wrote: "NOT THE CAT. Seriously @netflix ? That was unnecessary. #SexEducation."
Others found it equally as disturbing, but also could not help but laugh, with one viewer joking "Curiosity killed the cat" and another questioning ""Sex just killed a cat?? #SexEducation?"
Palfrey, who plays Cynthia in the series posted an adorable photo of her and Jonathan on her Instagram ahead of the Season 3 release.
Although the death of Cynthia's cat may seem like a random moment amid Sex Education's chaos, the storyline sheds a light on a very important topic: grief.
Cynthia begins using sex as a mechanism to cope with the loss of Jonathan, leaving Jeffrey not only exhausted but feeling used. "I can't have sex again" he cries out to Isaac (George Robinson) as he passes by their caravan.
Jeffrey later gets some advice from Otis, sharing with him that he expected Cynthia to be much more upset about the death of Jonathan as he was like a son to her after they struggled to have kids together. Otis, imparting his usual wisdom, suggested Cynthia may be using sex as a way to "not deal with the sadness" and explained people deal with grief in lots of different ways.
Eventually, Jeffrey had a difficult conversation with Cynthia about the death of Jonathan and suggests she might be using sex as a coping strategy. Turns out Otis was right, and Cynthia eventually breaks down in tears, admitting she cannot talk about Jonathan because it is "too painful."
Who would have thought Jeffrey and Cynthia's sex life and the death of their pet cat could have so much meaning?
