A Karachi sessions court on Friday sentenced a man to 14 years in prison for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old boy in October last year.
The accused, Syed Inayat, was found guilty of molesting the victim within the jurisdiction of Liaquatabad police station.
Additional District and Sessions Judge (Central) Zabiha Khattak pronounced the verdict. It was reserved earlier after evidence was recorded and arguments concluded from both sides.
“Today, these types of crime are peaking in the society, creating havoc especially among minors who are kept in fear due to the said act,” she said in the judgement. “This type of crime should be dealt with iron hands.”
The judge ruled that the prosecution had succeeded to establish the case beyond any shadow of doubt against the accused.
He was also fined Rs10,000. If the accused fails to pay the fine he would have to undergo an additional six-month imprisonment.
The judge approved the remand of the convict to serve out the remainder of his sentence.
State prosecutor Hina Naz said the victim had gone to play on the night of Oct 25 last year, when the accused asked the boy to deliver meals to his home in the same vicinity.
She added that as the victim approached the house, the accused followed him inside and closed the door. He assaulted the boy for around 15 minutes and threatened him to not disclose the incident to anyone.
Naz further said the complainant — the victim’s father — had caught the accused from his home after being pointed out by his son. Locals of the area thrashed him before handing him over to the police.
The prosecutor said that medical evidence, including DNA profile matching had established that the offence was committed. She requested the court to punish the accused in accordance with the law.
In her verdict, the judge wrote that the complainant, fully supported the contents of the FIR as well as the memo of the arrest and inspection.
She added that the 11-year-old victim correctly identified the accused person and fully supported the version of the prosecution. “Even [as] he faced cross-examination, but no contradiction came on record.”
In his testimony, recorded under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code (Power to examine the accused), the accused denied the allegations of the prosecution and claimed that all the prosecution witnesses had made false statements against him.
However, he failed to produce any witness in his defence.
His defence counsel Rahat Baig also claimed innocence on part of the accused and pleaded with the court to acquit him of the “false” allegations.
The case was lodged under the Sections 377-B (unnatural offence) and 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or for a shorter terms) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Liaquatabad police station on the complaint of the victim’s father.
Earlier, the body of a 7-year-old girl, who was raped and murdered , was found in Karachi’s Quaidabad area on Friday, police and hospital officials had said.
The body was found on a plot of an under-construction building near Mengal School in Landhi’s Muslimabad colony.
A large number of locals gathered at the spot and expressed their anger over the unfortunate incident.

Three teen boys were kidnapped, tortured, and forced to engage in gay sex against their will at gunpoint by a sadistic gang of teenagers at a house in the Hua Mark area of Bangkok.
The victims suffered burns on their penises, were forced to drink urine, take part in oral sex, and fight with each other. Only one offender has been arrested by police.
The three boys , 17 year old Oat, 17 year old Sub, and 18 year old Fluke, filed complaints with the police after they escaped their imprisonment and torture by 17 teenagers aged between 17 to 19 for three days between October 27 and 19.
Oat said that he used to study at the Minburi Polytechnic Technological College but quit. He believes the kidnappers were students from another polytechnic college.
Oat told revealed he was kidnapped by two teenagers named Tle and Gift on the night of October 27. The two brought Oat to a house in Soi Ramkanhaeng 63 where more than 10 other teenagers were gathered.
Oat said one of the group used his phone to lure two of his friends, Sub and Fluke, to the house. Over three days they were repeatedly attacked and tortured by the others. The group recorded videos of their sadistic acts. The kidnappers threatened their captives with guns and forced them to follow every order from them. If they failed to follow their orders they threatened to release the videos on social media.
The three were forced to eat cigarette buts, drink urine, perform oral sex, and kiss and punch each other. A female teenager from the group burned the boys’ pubic hairs and scorched their penises with a lighter. She also stubbed out burning cigarettes on their tongues.
Oat revealed there were many guns in the house.
Oat said the owner of the house, a father of one group member, was aware of the ordeal but did nothing to stop his son’s actions.
Oat’s mother told Channel 3 she is afraid of repercussions because one of the parents is notorious in the area.
The victims contacted celebrity lawyer Ronnarong Kaewphet to help them with their case.
Ronnarong said that the teenage gang face a number of charges, including attempted murder, imprisoning others, using firearms without permission, and possession of firearms without permission.
Only one boy, 18 year old Thanapon (surname reserved), was arrested yesterday, the rest of the suspects are on the run.
Thanapon was charged with physically assaulting others, holding others captive, and extorting others to do or not to do any acts against that person’s will. He denied all allegations and is now imprisoned at Bangkok remand Prison.

A Milwaukee gang member was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for sex trafficking on Thursday.
31-year-old Jovante L. Champion of Milwaukee was previously convicted of four felony crimes: sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion; interstate transportation for prostitution; sex trafficking of a child and by force, fraud, or coercion; and transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), trial evidence proved Champion was a member of a Milwaukee gang called "Everything Business," which is an offshoot of a violent Chicago-based street gang called Black P. Stone Nation.
The DOJ says Champion used his position and false promises of love and financial security to recruit two victims. One victim was recruited when she was 20, and the other after she had just turned 16.
Champion used physical force, coercion, a firearm, and his gang's backing to sell his victims for commercial sex in Illinois, Tennessee, and Texas, according to the DOJ.
The FBI and the Wisconsin Department of Justice - Division of Criminal INvestigation investigated the case with the help of the Dallas Police Department and the San Antonio Police Department.
