A 19-year-old girl in Tamil Nadu's Ambattur allegedly died by suicide after she failed to clear the NEET exam.

A 19-year-old Chennai girl allegedly died by suicide on Wednesday in Tamil Nadu’s Ambattur after she failed to clear the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET). The result for the 2022 round of exams was declared on Wednesday, September 7.
The girl took the extreme step just hours after the results were declared.
After finding out about the incident, the girl's family rushed her to KMC hospital in Chennai but she was declared ‘brought dead’. Police have retrieved the body and sent it for an autopsy.
A total of 1,32,167 candidates appeared from Tamil Nadu in the NEET exam and only 67,787 qualified in the exam from the state.
Before the NEET exams were made compulsory in 2017, students who aspired to study medicine were given admissions based on their combined marks of 12th class scores and entrance exam scores from a state wide test.
This is not the first time that a NEET aspirant died by suicide in the state. In July, a day before the exam, a girl died by suicide in Tamil Nadu’s Ariyalur. Police found a letter written by the girl which said she took the extreme step from the fear of failing the exam.
In another case, an 18-year-old boy died by suicide in early July. A suicide note found in his room stated that he took the extreme step since he was finding the NEET exam too hard and was unable to score the desired marks.

Police in Blantyre have arrested a 15-year-old Standard 7 learner for having sex on two occasions with a 12-year-old girl, who is in Standard 6.
According to Blantyre Police Station deputy spokesperson Sergeant Aubrey Singanyama, reports indicate that, during the month of August, 2022 the boy fell in love with the girl at a school which they both attend.
During this period, it is alleged that the two children had sexual intercourse twice.
On August 31, 2022, the victim left her home for school but did not return.
This then prompted her mother to institute a search for her, but to no avail, until the girl returned home the following day on September 1, 2022.
Upon being asked about her whereabouts, the girl revealed that she had spent the night at the suspect’s house whom she was dating.
The matter was reported to Kabula Police Unit, where the victim was referred to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for medical examination and treatment.
The boy will appear before court to answer the charge of defilement of a girl under the age of 16 which contravenes section 138 of the Penal Code.

JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Authorities said an 18-year-old girl turned herself in to Jackson police in connection to the shooting death of a 12-year-old boy on Ventura Drive.
Jackson police announced the information during a press conference on Friday, June 3. Investigators previously arrested Otha Brown as a suspect in the murder case that happened in late May. Brown was recently denied bond .
Police said Cartisha Cashion, 18, turned herself in as suspect in the 12-year-old’s death and the shooting of his 16-year-old brother. She allegedly admitted that she was one of the people inside a car believed to be associated with the drive-by shooting.
Cashion was charged with murder, aggravated assault and drive-by shooting. Police said Taekuan Cohen is no longer a suspect in the case as he provided an alibi.
During the conference, police also said a man was found dead on Hickory Drive on Tuesday, May 31. He had suffered from a gunshot wound. Investigators have not been able to identity the victim.
Additionally, Xavier Gray was arrested in connection to the murder of Clinton Newsome. Newsome was shot and killed on April 22. Police believe the shooting was drug-related. Gray was charged with murder and two counts of aggravated assault.
