Why run multiple Minecraft servers on a single IP?
It's been a growing trend to see customers requesting an IP for each Minecraft server they run. This is mainly due to wanting to run each server on the default port (25565), so that there is no confusion for players on how to access the server. This is a huge plus for ease of use and simplicity for new players, but it also increases the operational costs.
IP Space – The world is running out of IP blocks. This means that the cost of an IP block will increase by 2 to 5x if demand rises and supplies dry out. DDoS Protection- Protection is typically sold per-IP as this is the way most companies assess "risk", and "usage" for their system. The server is considered a bigger target if it has multiple IPs. Protecting a single IP with multiple servers on it will give you major cost savings. Name: The domain name where this record is valid. TTL: standard DNS time-to-live field. class: The standard DNS class field (this field is always IN). Priority is the priority of a target host. Lower values are more preferred. Weight: A relative weight for records having the same priority. port: The TCP/UDP port that the Minecraft server is connected to. target: the host name of the machine providing the service.
If your DNS provider asks for service, put in _minecraft and if it asks for proto or protocol, put in _tcp.
