Best Serana Mods For Skyrim (All Free)

Introduced in Skyrim’s first DLC (Dawnguard), Serana quickly became a fan favorite.
This was due in part to the fact she’s one of the most involved followers the Dragonborn can have in the game, and it’s also because she was voiced by the talented and award-winning Laura Bailey.
Serana’s lore runs deep. And her story is one that every player should explore.
She’s tough yet vulnerable. And she’s also just a very practical follower with her one-handed weapon, destruction, blood, and conjuring magic skills that are sure to get the Dragonborn out of any sticky situation.
But let’s say you’re looking to take Serana beyond vanilla gameplay.
Well here’s our picks for the best mods we could find to boost your experience with this incredible character.
Note: all mods listed here are compatible with Skyrim Special Edition (SSE).
So this is an appearance mod for Serana that really stands out from the others.
Just skim over the mod’s screenshots and you can tell this is a truly unique look.
But if this isn’t quite for you, there’s an option to just have a standalone follower instead, allowing you to choose a different appearance mod for Serana as well.
Serana’s infamous hood always shows itself when she’s outside during the day.
The lore makes sense, because vampires don’t much care for sunlight.
But the actual look of this in-game tends to have its quirks.
Some players find it distracting when she already has headgear equipped, which gets removed in favor of her hood. But here’s a mod to help with that.
You’ll be given two simple solutions: remove the hood altogether, or just don’t have her wear it whenever she already has headgear on.
Isn’t it great when mods give us options?
Although I’ve mentioned that Serana is great in combat, her AI is still lacking in some parts – and can be frustrating for some players.
But Empowering Serana clears all that up.
Specifically, this mod prevents her from doing a “Lydia” by setting off traps even when sneaking or attracting enemies.
It also tweaks with her magic resistance and magic power levels, giving her a better edge in combat.
These extra perks really play to her strengths, and make her more effective in a fight – while eliminating all the frustrating parts.
Probably a must-have mod if you’re using Serana in your playthrough.
Looking to add some more vampires into your gameplay?
With this custom mod, Serana will be given the ability to transform into a Vampire Lord at her own discretion in battle.
This keeps things completely lore friendly, while giving her a true edge in combat.
Surprisingly, this feature isn’t in the vanilla game (for some reason) since you as a player can become one, and her father can change into this form also.
While standing next to Serana in-game, eventually you’ll hear her say “Yes? What did you need?”
And she’ll say this over and over again .
Wouldn’t it be nice if you could get her to stop doing that?
I’m here with some good news: your request has been granted.
People still sing praises even nowadays to the person that made this mod, just because of how better this feels.
You’re also given the option to remove some of her other repetitive dialogues too, which some players have found annoying from time to time.
If you’re not satisfied with Serana’s combat abilities, Queen of the Damned will completely overhaul them for you.
Serana’s default magic abilities are completely removed with this mod. But in their place you get more powerful & lore friendly attacks added in.
These attacks include a vampire missile attack, paralyze spell, bat cloak spell, conjure a Gargoyle, and the mod even replaces her default Elven Dagger with a completely unique sword named Coldharbour’s Daughter.
If you’re looking to make Serana hit hard in combat and stay true to her character, then look no further.
As mentioned earlier, Serana is one of the most involved followers in the game.
It’s because she has a variety of unique interactions that are unlocked as you progress together. This makes her feel a lot more real than most of the other NPCs that drone on about “guard duty” or “the Cloud District”.
And with this mod, Serana will now be given even more radiant dialogue , plus relationship points.
And it even expands her interactions into the Dragonborn and Hearthfire DLCs.
All of this is still voiced by Laura Bailey, just stuff taken from the unused dialogue pool.
There’s also some bug fixes here too. And if you haven’t heard by now, bugs are rather common in Bethesda games.
But this is absolutely a mod to install if you’re looking for more Serana goodness.
To everyone’s dismay, Serana will refuse a marriage proposal in vanilla – even if you cure her of her Vampirism.
The vanilla game simply will not allow you to marry her.
But there’s no need to hang your head in shamed rejection anymore, because (once again) modders are here to save the day.
With this installed, you and Serana can be bound together, in love, now and forever.
There’s nothing too complex about it, either.
Just install the mod and you’re simply allowed to marry her, like you can any other marriageable NPC .
So go out and get her, you hopeless romantic.
Serana is already one of the more life-like NPCs in Skyrim.
But you can take it to the next level with this dialogue add-on.
With this installed, you’ll be exposed to her entire dialogue pool (again, all lines voiced by Laura Bailey).
Plus you’ll get new and completely original lines performed by Kerstyn Unger.
Serana will get more radiant dialogue for combat, quests, and just around the general environment. Not to mention she’ll have more character interaction dialogue, romance dialogue, and get this:
There has also been extensive (and ongoing) work to make this mod compatible with Serana Dialogue Edit. As of this writing it’s not quite there yet, but honestly it’s still worth checking out this mod. It adds a lot more than you’d think.
I can say that this is, without a doubt, the best Skyrim appearance mod for Serana.
It’s a complete visual overhaul of the character that truly makes her look as beautiful as she deserves to be.
Not to mention that this mod is completely standalone, nothing else needed.
Also, all previous versions from this mod’s history are available too.
So you have the ability to choose whichever appearance you like best (just cycle through and see what stands out)
I suggest taking the time to read through the description (it’s really long) because it offers a ton of details and tips on how to adjust Serana to your liking.
And try to make time for exploring the supporting mods listed in the description, too.
These other add-ons explore custom hair, body, and armor styles that can improve your experience with Serana even more.
Fun content on everything pop culture. Video games, movies, TV shows, cartoons, anime, toys, comics, and so much more.

Serana is a Nord vampire found inside a sarcophagus in Dimhollow Cavern . She is the long lost daughter of Lord Harkon and Valerica , and is in possession of an Elder Scroll. Upon introduction, she will know if you are a vampire or not, and she will ask you to take her to her home .
Her main location during gameplay depends on which faction you ally yourself with—if siding with the Dawnguard , she can be found at Fort Dawnguard ; if siding with the Volkihar vampires , she can be found at Volkihar Keep . After completing Beyond Death, she can also be found in Valerica's study. After completing the Dawnguard main questline, she can normally be found at these same locations, although you will occasionally randomly encounter her in the wilds of Skyrim, where she can be recruited to follow you again.
Serana wears a set of vampire royal armor with a pair of vampire boots , and she will don a unique hood when outside, displacing any head-gear given her. She is equipped with an elven dagger .
During the quest Chasing Echoes , she will offer to turn you into a Vampire Lord . After completing the quest Kindred Judgment , she can be asked to turn you into a Vampire Lord at any time. If you sided with the Dawnguard, while a Vampire Lord they will refuse any interactions with you, stating that you need to get cured immediately. This starts Rising at Dawn .
She can also transform any elven arrows in your possession into Bloodcursed elven arrows after obtaining Auriel's Bow .
As long as she is a vampire, she will be immune to all frost-based attacks.
She will frequently, if not always, reanimate corpses, but they later turn into ash piles when their duration ends or if they die. Thus, she is less useful if you plan to reanimate extremely powerful magicians as dead thralls, for example Sild the Warlock , Orchendor , Malkoran , Lu'ah Al-Skaven , Malyn Varen , or the Caller . Outside of this, her necromancy is powerful enough to reanimate non-humanoid entities.
The spells she uses depend on her level. She has a Drain Life spell that gets stronger with higher levels (even if her vampirism is cured). Additionally, in every case she knows the following spells:
If you side with the Dawnguard, you can convince Serana to cure her vampirism after her father's death. This depends on selecting certain conversation options over the course of the questline.
After Serana brings her scroll to Fort Dawnguard, you ask her "Have you always been a vampire?" while she is a follower. During this conversation, if you ask her if she has ever thought about getting cured, she will refer to her condition as a gift, insisting that she will never seek a cure for it. Should she say this, you can still ask her to seek a cure after her father has been defeated, but she will refuse and then refuse to speak to you about it further should you ask again. If you wish for her to cure her vampirism after the main questline, choose the option "Are you all right?" rather than asking her about the cure.
Once you have defeated Harkon and left Volkihar Cathedral , if you are not a vampire yourself † , you can ask Serana if she's ever considered being cured. If you tell her that her vampirism makes you uncomfortable, she will criticize you for being self-centered and refuse to ever discuss the cure again. If you pick more tactful dialogue options, you can convince her to go see Falion. She will immediately leave, even if she is currently following you, saying that she needs to do this alone. For the next three days, she will stay with Falion, at which point, she will become human and return to Fort Dawnguard.
If Serana chooses to become human, she will no longer be able to provide you with bloodcursed arrows, nor will she be able to turn you into a vampire. Her eyes will also revert to her mortal blue eyes. She will no longer be undead, which means that she can be healed by your Restoration healing spells, she won't be damaged by Restoration combat spells that target undead, and she appears with Detect Life instead of Detect Dead. Her combat spell usage remains the same; she continues to use a vampiric Drain Life attack along with her other attacks.
You can reverse the effects of your choices in conversation by typing the following into the console: SetPapyrusQuestVar DLC1NPCMentalModel ToldPlayerSheDidntWantCure_var False . You will now be able to convince her to get cured. If she still refuses to talk about being cured, type the following into the console: SetPapyrusQuestVar DLC1NPCMentalModel CutOffCureDiscussion_var False . You can force the quest to start by typing the following into the console: setstage DLC1SeranaCureSelfQuest 10 . If the Serana cure quest should become stuck you can use setstage DLC1SeranaCureSelfQuest 100 to finish the quest after stage 10 and have Serana back, without her vampirism.
Following is a set of conversation picks that make the vampirism cure available.
When you open her sarcophagus, she will stumble out. She's clearly been asleep for a very long time. This exchange will be different depending on whether or not you're a vampire. She's quite groggy. You can answer her one of two ways when she first wakes up, regardless of whether or not you're a vampire.
Regardless of what you pick, the conversation continues.
You'll be faced with another round of options after the initial introduction.
The conversation continues regardless of what you pick.
You can speak to her in Dimhollow Crypt. The shortest dialogue tree is on the subject of how to get out of the crypt.
You can also ask her about her home.
You can also ask about the Elder Scroll on her back.
You can touch on how long she's been out.
Regardless of how you answer, the conversation continues.
You can also ask her why she was locked away.
If you want her to continue following you:
It's important to note that you cannot trade things with her and you cannot part ways with her during this quest.
When you finally escape Dimhollow Crypt:
If you bring her to Fort Dawnguard :
She will have a few words for you if you speak to her in front of the castle.
At the gates of Castle Volkihar, she will turn to you for a quick word. This exchange will be different depending on whether or not you're a vampire.
When you approach the door, the Watchman will be shocked by Serana's sudden reappearance. He opens the gate, allowing you to proceed. When you and Serana enter the castle, Vingalmo will be the first to acknowledge her return.
You'll then enter the castle, where her father will greet her.
If you try to speak to Serana after bringing her home, she'll greet you with one of the following:
Serana will appear at the fort. Speak with her.
After talking with both Serana and Isran, the two will exchange quips.
Speak with Isran, then talk to Serana again.
Speaking to her after this (this section is the same for the Dawnguard and Vampire versions of this quest):
You can also ask her more about herself.
Another response appears if you've completed The House of Horrors :
The next response is different depending on whether or not you're in the Dawnguard.
Regardless of which side you're on, the rest of the conversation is the same. You can ask Serana one of two questions, both of which lead to the rest of the conversation.
You can answer her in one of three ways
The following responses are different depending on who you sided with.
If you speak to her again after saying you have things to do:
If you speak to her again after agreeing to go to the secret side passage, you can ask her about the Elder Scroll and her family.
You can also go down a dialogue path that ends with Serana asking you about your family.
After the conversation ends, she says:
She will make some comments as you make your way to the courtyard.
She will have more commentary when you reach the courtyard.
After you exit the conversation, she says:
