The National Investment Corporation of the National Bank of Kazakhstan (NIC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Bank of Kazakhstan and an institutional investment organization managing assets entrusted to it by the National Bank.
NIC invests across global financial markets with a long-term investment horizon, covering both traditional and alternative asset classes, including fixed income, public equities, private equity, hedge funds, real estate, infrastructure, and digital assets.
The Corporation works with leading global asset managers, financial institutions, custodians, and other international market participants and follows international best practices in institutional asset management.
As part of the continued development of its investment capabilities, NIC is also involved in Kazakhstan’s State Crypto Reserve, expanding its expertise in institutional digital asset investing and infrastructure.
Role Description
We are looking for a Senior Portfolio Manager (Senior Expert)to join our Treasury team in Astana, Kazakhstan.
The role involves hands-on participation in institutional portfolio management, investment execution and liquidity management across international and local financial markets.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage liquidity and day-to-day cash management activities;
* Execute investment transactions across global and local financial markets;
* Participate in the management of fixed-income and other investment portfolios;
* Monitor portfolio performance, risks, exposures and investment limits;
* Prepare investment proposals and manage liquidity for capital calls and distributions;
* Conduct macroeconomic and financial market analysis;
* Develop investment ideas and recommendations on portfolio rebalancing, hedging and optimization;
* Contribute to Kazakhstan’s State Crypto Reserve and other institutional digital asset initiatives;
* Analyze investment opportunities across traditional and digital asset markets;
* Work with international banks, brokers, custodians, asset managers and other market counterparties;
* Prepare market reviews and analytical materials for management and investment committees;
* Contribute to the digitalization and automation of Treasury processes;
* Work with Bloomberg, Reuters, KASE and SimCorp.
Qualifications:
* University degree in Finance, Economics or a related field;
* Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in portfolio management, investments, treasury or financial markets;
* Strong understanding of financial instruments, portfolio management and trading;
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
* Proficiency in Kazakh, Russian and English;
* Experience with Bloomberg and professional investment/trading systems;
* Knowledge of or strong interest in digital assets and crypto markets is an advantage;
* CFA or another relevant professional qualification is preferred.
