About the Role

We’re hiring a Senior Developer Advocate (Developer Evangelist) to lead how Typesense engages with existing users and the broader developer community.

This role is for a software engineer who enjoys being outward-facing - building demos, speaking and/or representing Typesense at events, organizing meetups, and turning real-world developer conversations into practical, technical content.

This role sits within our marketing function and focuses on building top-of-funnel developer awareness, trust, and adoption through authentic technical engagement.

You’ll have significant ownership over how we approach developer evangelism at Typesense and will help define our presence in the broader developer ecosystem.

So far, the founders have been the faces of the company in our evangelism efforts, and you’ll be working closely with them to become another well-known product expert and public voice.

What You’ll Do

* Represent Typesense at developer conferences, meetups, hackathons, and community events, which will involve regular travel.
* Organize user groups and developer meetups centered around Typesense, in cities around the world, as opportunities arise.
* Turn in-person conversations into technical blog posts, talks, tutorials, and guides.
* Build demo applications, example integrations, and sample projects that showcase Typesense in real-world scenarios.
* Engage with developers in community channels and help answer technical questions.
* Design, improve, and occasionally maintain lightweight SDKs, client libraries, and developer tooling as needed.
* Dogfood new features and give feedback to the product engineering team, to ensure our developer experience remains 'batteries-included' as we scale.
* Gather insights from the field and feed them back into product and engineering discussions.
* Help improve our documentation to make it more accessible to developers.
* Own and manage Typesense’s developer-facing social media presence, using technically grounded content from events, demos, and community conversations to drive awareness and engagement.
* Help establish best practices and direction for Developer Advocacy and Evangelism at Typesense.

What We’re Looking For

* A publicly accessible repertoire of technical talks, blog posts, videos, or other technical content you’ve produced in the past.
* Public technical presence through social media, open source contributions, or community engagement is a strong bonus.
* A sense for developer culture and humor.
* Strong conversational skills, especially in unscripted technical discussions with developers.
* At least 3-4 years of experience building and shipping production-grade web applications using modern technologies.
* Experience with at least one frontend library or framework like React, Vue, Angular, Next, Nuxt, etc.
* Experience with at least one backend web framework (Ruby on Rails, Laravel, Django) or backend language/runtime (Go, Node.js, etc).
* Experience with Search or Information Retrieval (Elasticsearch, Algolia, Solr, Lucene, etc) is a huge plus, but not a requirement.
* Comfortable writing production-quality code for demos, examples, and integrations.
* Comfortable using modern AI-assisted and agentic coding tools as part of day-to-day workflows.
* Ability to explain complex technical ideas clearly to other developers.
* Experience in public speaking, workshops, or technical presentations.
* Strong technical writing skills.
* Comfortable creating technical video content (recorded talks, demos, walkthroughs).
* Comfortable working independently and shaping an evolving function.

What We Offer:

* Competitive pay, with discretionary performance-based bonuses, paid out in USD or CAD based on your preference.
* 3 weeks of pre-planned time off per year, in addition to local statutory holidays.
* Get paid to help users adopt a high-impact open-source product.
* Flexible work environment: we don’t micromanage or set arbitrary deadlines. We will work hard to ensure that you have the freedom, tools, trust, and support to do your best work.
* We are a globally distributed, fully remote team, and this position will also be fully remote.
* Stipend to help you equip your home office with the best tools for the job.
* 100% of all pre-approved business travel for conferences and events is fully reimbursed.

If you enjoy building things, talking to developers, and shaping how a technical product is understood in the real world, we’d love to hear from you.

👉 IMPORTANT: When you apply, please include links to your portfolio of technical talks, blog posts, videos and/or social media handles / technical posts, in your resume.
