Your role and responsibilities
We are looking for an autonomous Data Scientist who can own the evolution of our trading signal capabilities. Rather than simply building models, you will identify opportunities, formulate hypotheses, design experiments, and leverage our internal AI-powered tools to continuously improve our signals across multiple European electricity markets. Your responsibilities will include:
* Build and improve machine learning models for tabular and time-series data.
* Develop new signal-generation approaches across multiple European electricity markets.
* Evaluate and compare classical ML, foundation models and novel modeling techniques to identify the best approach for each problem.
* Design rigorous experiments, backtesting methodologies and benchmarks to validate new ideas.
* Analyze complex datasets from European power markets to identify patterns, validate hypotheses, and generate insights for the product and trading teams.
* Leverage AI-powered tools and agents to accelerate experimentation while providing scientific judgment and interpreting results.
* Help productionize models on cloud infrastructure (primarily AWS), and contribute to monitoring, retraining, and evaluation workflows.
* Stay at the forefront of advances in machine learning, forecasting and optimization, and translate relevant research into learning for the team
What would make you a strong fit
Education & Experience
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
* Senior Data Scientist (typically 5-8+ years of experience) with a proven track record of independently driving complex Data Science initiatives from idea to business impact.
* Experience in electricity or energy markets is a strong plus.
Machine Learning & Modeling
* Strong Python programming skills.
* Deep understanding of machine learning, statistics, and time-series forecasting.
* Experience selecting, developing and evaluating modeling approaches beyond off-the-shelf solutions.
* Hands-on experience with classical ML, deep learning, and ideally foundation models for time series.
* Strong understanding of experimental design, model evaluation, backtesting, and probabilistic forecasting.
* Experience with AWS or production ML workflows is a plus.
Analytical Skills
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to formulate hypotheses, design rigorous experiments, and critically interpret results.
* Solid understanding of statistical analysis, model validation, and hypothesis testing.
* Experience designing backtesting or large-scale experimentation frameworks is a plus.
