Seminar-training on "Prospects of transition to green economy in Uzbekistan" was organized

On May 15-16 of this year, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, in cooperation with the GIZ and the Center for Green Economy Projects under the Ministry, organized a seminar-training on the topic “Prospects for the transition to a green economy in Uzbekistan”.

The purpose of organizing this seminar is to strengthen the technological capabilities of state and private organizations in planning, implementation and continuous evaluation of the transition to the green economy, as well as to train local trainers who are regularly working in this direction. The representatives of ministries and agencies, as well as local enterprises and organizations responsible for the “green” economy, as well as representatives of higher educational institutions attended the event.

The event was opened by director of the Green Economy Projects Center Temur Malik Narzikulov, GIZ Sustainable Economic Development Program Manager Beate Schoreit, and Head of the Green Economy Transition and Development Coordination Department of the Ministry of Economy and Finance Shokhzod Islamov.

At the seminar, presentations on the topics of ensuring sustainable development based on the “green” economy, reduction of greenhouse gases, international carbon markets, emission trading systems (ETS, CDM, JCM), Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), international and local environmental law, “green” urbanization, urban planning, buildings and construction, infrastructure, advanced foreign experience in the development of “green” economy and its practical significance, climate finance and tools, “green” tax system, “green” finance, “green energy” certificates, climate-resilient agriculture financing, “green” loans and bonds were presented.

During the seminar, support for the development and implementation of “green” technologies by small businesses and private enterprises, encouragement of issuing organizations in the development of the composition of “green” bonds and obtaining external certificates and publishing impact and income reports, promotion of formation of funding sources for promising projects and assistance in attracting technical and financial support were widely discussed.

For information: the seminar-training has been organized in order to ensure the implementation of the Presidential Decree № PD–436 “On measures to increase the effectiveness of reforms aimed at the transition of the Republic of Uzbekistan to a green economy until 2030” on December 2, 2022.

At the end of the seminar-training, the participants who successfully completed the final test prepared on the topics of the seminar will be awarded with certificates.
