This place is a health violation!! I shortened my trip because I could only stomach 1 night. I cleaned the room and changed my bed linen. The photos in the advertisements are misleading! Room #215 looked like a crime scene with what looked like blood and body fluid splatter on the walls throughout the room. The Dept. of Health should shut this place down!!! This place is an insult to Selma, Ala.
The place full of all kind of insects running around, terrible smell, AC broken,.... management didn't understand why we didn't want to stay and took forever getting a refund. Place needs to be inspected and closed.
We stayed there for one night with our dogs as part of a road trip throughout the South. We had pre-booked and pre-paid for a non-smoking room. Upon check-in we realized we were screwed because the room was beyond smoky and filthy and we had no other alternative because we had dogs. The bathroom smelled even worse so we just used the toilet not the shower. The beds were comfortable enough but I was coughing all night because of the smoke. I found a cigarette butt on the stained carpet and there were stains on the exposed mattress. There were cigarette burn holes on the bedspreads. We escaped at dawn with no desire to try their free breakfast.
The staff was friendly, it’s an old hotel , but our room was quiet and clean. Not a perfect place, but accepts pets for $5.00 a night. There’s a lot of remodeling left to do and with money tight these days, the owners are giving it their all. I would stay here again.
During the hurricane evacuation, the Rack Rate placard on the door to our room had white out covering the standard room charges. The desk clerk tried to charge for my marked service dog until I quoted Federal Law: ADA Act.

Arrived for business. This was the hotel the company rented for a group for an extended stay. Where to begin. People at the front desk were constantly on their personal phones while we were trying to check in. The workers had their cars parked under the over hang.
Walking to rooms. Stains on carpet. The smell of cigarettes, marijuana, and mold up and down hallway.
Room- door looked like someone had kicked it several times. Hair on toilet and bathtub and bed. Room smelled like mold/mildew.
That should be enough to tell you if you HAVE to stay in Selma go to the Hampton or Holiday Inn.
I stayed at the Comfort Inn in Selma for the 55th Annual Bridge Jubilee. I picked it because it says that it is the one at the Pettus Bridge, which is a little misleading because it is on the outskirts of town and about 3 miles from the bridge. But I believe I may have gotten the last room in Selma that night and I my rate was $160 for a room that is probably about $80, but I get it. I can't say enough good things about the staff. They really made me feel welcome and that they care about their guests. I asked for a King Room on the bottom floor and even though when I booked it, they did not have any available, they made it happen. The only issue I had was that the party in the room next to mine was smoking pot (which normally doesn't bother me) non-stop and the smell saturated the hallway and my room. I woke up the next morning with a really bad headache because of it. I made the staff aware after I got there and Vicki (she is a star) said she would take care of it. However after she left for the day, it started again and continued throughout the night. Also the shower water pressure is weak. That could use improvement. The breakfast was average for this tier of hotel (however we do live in the south and it would've been nice to see real grits, not instant as a choice). Overall is was a nice clean comfortable hotel and I felt safe. It just needs to be updated. I would probably stay there again.
I personally had no problems with the hotel but my husband pointed out that every time we came downstairs, the hall doors were propped open. We saw several people come in off the street and get drinks, or go wandering down the halls. Otherwise, the room was clean and spacious, our breakfast was good and the staff was friendly.
