You can buy plugs in any possible shape, size and color. In order to make a lockable butt-plug you need the following:

The plug should be fully inserted with only the last couple of chain links outside. But as you have noticed, the DIY plug does not have a flare base. Hence, to prevent "swallowing" thread a rope, chain or padlock through the chain links and connect the plug to, for example, a crotch rope (see the Basic Techniques section).
Using a condom (shown) over the plug and lots of lube (not shown) is highly recommended. And, of course, be carefull and do not force the plug into you body. Also keep in mind the natural curvature of the colons (see below).

If you love self-bondage and spending on it, have you thought about doing a challenge? In this case, I’m going to give you some ideas for you to do your own 100 hours self-bondage experiment. Of course these will be for advanced players, but if you are a beginner, you can start with less hours and build up to it wink *.
The first rule about this is you must be bound at all times in some way. These means you will have to be tied by ropes or have some sort of chains , etc. At least one body orifice will have to be filled, depending where you are and your preferences, but this means you will have to wear a butt plug or a gag , or…. You will also have to be in chastity all the time, you’re not allowed to climax or achieve orgasm till 100 hours have passed!
When you’re at home, you will need to be naked always, there is no clothing involved in this challenge! You will also have to have cuffs on your wrists and ankles and will need to be collared. If it’s possible, you will also need a collar or ankle chain and will be locked to a max 6 meter tether chain. If you can’t, you will need to be in immobilized bondage or have your ankles cuffed and arms behind your back. So choose wisely!
On the other hand, when you are out, you will need to have a butt plug. In addition to that, every time you are going out you will need to use either a rope or chain harness underneath your clothes. To move around, don’t use your car, only commute in public transport or walk to your destination.
Now, you will also have to accomplish some tasks. You will need to do them every 24 hours, if you don’t, the will be doubled on the next day…so try to do keep up! So, you will need to spend 2 hours with either a panel or ball gag . You will also need to stand with a spreader bar for 1 hour and spend 1 hour with your hands tied behind your back. You will spend 1 hour with a hood on and 1 hour tied to a chair; some time in a hogtie will also be needed, for 1 hour. Lastly, some sensory deprivation is also involved.
